Madeleine McCann: Carlos Anjos Says, Clarence Mitchell Replies And The Daily Express Is Quiet
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN: “Maddie cops snub”
Carlos Anjos, head of the Portuguese Police Federation, says: “There are bigger problems in the police”, than the case of Madeleine McCann
Says Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns’ spokesman: “Mr Anjos is entitled to his opinion but it is entirely unhelpful”
This the same Carlos Anjos who once noted:
“There is no criminal investigation which can feed a news frenzy for six months, so what we have seen are both English and Portuguese journalists behaving in a scandalous and unprofessional way. Writing terrible stories in the papers, some of which have clearly affected the McCanns… now we have to say that the McCanns are partly to blame for this. Because it was something they created”
And then one of the oddest lines yet seen in a newspaper:
“Meanwhile cops have ruled out a theory the four-year-old could have been snatched by Swiss pervert Urs Hans Von Aesch. He blew his chance in august after killing a girl of five”
Anyone care to explain that comment?
DAILY STAR: “FIND MADDIE? WE’VE GOT BETTER THINGS TO DO. HEAD COP BLASTS McCANN SEARCH”
Says Mr Anjos: “There are bigger problems than the Maddie case”
Why the Star should appear shocked at this seem unclear, given the tabloid stories of paedophilia being rife in Portugal
Says Mr Anjos: “I am certain that all of my colleagues involved in the investigation are doing everything they can to discover what happened”
DAILY MIRROR: “Maddy’s ‘not our priority’”
Mr Anjos made his views known in Portuguese newspaper 24 Horas
MARI Luz Cortes – Still missing. Her father has posted a £110,000 reward, The paper reports that police are “scaling down the search”
DAILY MAIL: “Maddie? We’ve got bigger problems”
Says Mr Anjos: “But with respect, there are bigger problems in the Policia Judiciaria than the Madeleine case”
DAILY EXPRESS: NO MADELEINE NEWS – Which is the biggest Madeleine McCann news of the past six months
Madeleine McCann: hype, frenzy and speculation

I must say I’ve never been a great timeline or “window of opportunity” fan. I honestly can’t imagine that the Tapas 9 all had their watches synchronised and were constantly looking at them. Nowadays, a lot of people don’t even wear a watch - they use the mobile. I very much doubt that Gerry, Jane Tanner, etc. would know whether it was 9.10, 9.15 or 9.20.
~~~~~~~~~~
I’m not a great fan of timeline / window of opportunity either. But on May 3rd it was important that there was set times for everything. For some reason. They may not have been accurate times , they may not have been wearing watches.
But they had to say those times. And stick to them. No matter what. And hope that anyone else in the resort like Jeremy Wilkins didn’t have a clear idea of the time.
Is there clock on the wall in the tapas bar?
Could they have been using that, if so.?
That night timing was crucial.
I’m off to bed now.
Been nice, our discussion.
Take care.
While it’s quiet, I can take some time to share some “emotions” [not emoticons].
Apart from the reasoning I’ve been posting in the past few months, I want to emphasize this “emotion”.
All of us, who have dealt with the loss of a loved one KNOW, that
- yes, you can try and maybe achieve to control and not “show” your grief and sorrow
BUT
- it is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to smile or LAUGH [you think: never - ever in your life again!] but, hey … after 6 months or so, you catch yourself smiling at a sunrise, twinkling bird
- and then you know the healing has begone
- but NOT leaving a church 10 days after your daughter “disappeared” and you shine like a celebrity!
You want me to show you that photo again?!
———————————————————————————–
Yes, I remember after losing someone young very suddenly the emotions I experienced. I remember the phonecall mid afternoon, the panic and the realisation that this was true not a dream. I remember driving home late that night through town and seeing people waiting to go into a night club all laughing, partying and happy. I couldn’t understand why these people were laughing , they should be crying like me after what’s happened I thought. A friend later told me this was typical grief, wondering at people laughing when you thought you’d never laugh again. I don’t think I did laugh for weeks, months ..even a year later I didn’t see much to laugh at but I learned to live with the grief and loss. I think this is why people find the McCanns emotions so strange. They have never looked like they are grieving certainly not while they were jogging, playing tennis, strolling the beach. If they had displayed some natural reactions to M’s disappearance then maybe the public would have been able to show some sympathy towards them.
M&A, Chloe Spain
Yes precisely.
He’s set the timeline very carefully for May 3rd so that everything follows along, just like an appointment book.
So logically he builds in a period of time, when he supposed to be jogging, but is actually checking on Madeleine - or wherever she is to ensure that nothing is amiss.
This also sets a precedent. As in to the media/ police : its 11a.m. Gerry and Kate put on trainers, trackie bottoms and off they go. Becomes a routine. No-one thinks anything of it.
Because its routine.
Like leaving the kids everynight.
Goodnight Châteleine. Sleep well.
Won’t be here tomorrow, off racing.
Wish us luck
M&A : He had to be precise. Its in his nature. And his very preciseness is what - he hopes- will get them off the hook.
Remember his insistence on the time Jane Tanner saw the abductor.
His alteration of the man’s height - despite the fact he didn’t see him.
etc etc.
May 3rd had to run like clockwork. Its the only way it could work.
IMO
I was just having a quick look in and saw your post. Yes, I do indeed get your drift. You mean he admits to having been slower on some particular day because he is aware that he actually spent the extra time doing something else (visiting wherever they had Madeleine hidden at the time, perhaps). It’s like when I’ve been on Anorak and tell my husband about all the work I’ve had to do during the morning (without mentioning that I’ve also had time to do something else)!!!!
February 8th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
Evening all …. my little cherubs.
I missed my man SC, so if you read this honey … hi!
Katy from Ireland was very interesting, and I did notice in one of her posts that she said that Chaplins was next to the Church, which is rather big in Luz.
If so, then why the f… did Gerry have to ask where the Church was the night Madeleine vanished? He would have known. He’d been to Chaplins.
The other bit I found interesting is the pick up on why Gerry times his jogs and posts them on his blog. What is he getting at.? That he didn’t have time to hide Madeleine? Or that he did?
I remember reading somewhere - and I wish I could remember where that people always tell the truth in statements, but leave out certain bits that are condemming to themselves.
So is Gerry saying ” look, I jogged to such and such in such and such time, -( did what was necessary ) and jogged back.
If you go back through his blogs they are full of oblique references to Kate and he jogging somewhere and looking out over ……….., we did it in 19 mins today - against 27 yesterday.
Or somesuch crap.
What I’m getting at is not that he got quicker, but he spent sometime DOING SOMETHING ELSE, which he refers to and thereby salves his conscience. i.e. its not his fault that no=one picked up on it.
Anyone get my drift?
IMO
: oops :
M and A
I do wonder what he intended by all the times mentioned. Just wondered if it was to emphasise the time line for the pm of May 3rd. How precise and exact he could be even when following leisure pursuits?
I rarely speak about the case to friends/colleagues because they are, by a very large majority, convinced the McCanns are - as your aunt says - unlucky and tragic figures.
Willo 697- How many people that you know have read or heard in the news that all of the group in PDL on that holiday had the same mind set about child minding, apart from D and F Payne who used a child monitor? How many people you know have read that one of the group, a doctor, left his reportedly sick child alone with her 10 month old sibling???
The first paragraph of that link is a wierd statement too ”
‘Kate and Gerry McCann’s bid to prove their innocence has received a major boost after a Portuguese prosecutor ruled there was not enough evidence to re-interrogate the couple. ‘
You would think if they were innocent the best way to prove it was to be interrogated, not try and avoid questioning. To me avoiding interrogation leads one to believe they are hiding something.
I’ve just had a relative visit us here in New Zealand from the UK. I was amazed that my aunty was pro McCann and she got very upset when I mentioned my thoughts on the case.
She gleaned all her info from the papers and TV and couldn’t believe the parents had done anything wrong, even neglect. “It was not neglect they were just unlucky” she said.
Now I consider my Aunty as a honest straight up sort of person. She is and always has been kind hearted and thoughtful and a fav of mine since childhood. She is a good person. I was amazed that she refused to entertain anything other than the Abductor theory as, she itterated, does everybody down her local. She got visibly upsat with me!!!!
When the little girl in Spain went missing she said “He’s taken another one”. This info was taken from TVNZ news bulletin she watched. So the spin reaches all across the world even 12000 miles away.
So although Clarries contstant babbling seems outrageous to Anorak dwellers, to me it seems it might be working in some degree in the UK and across the world.
Lets hope the PJ nail the guilty.
February 8th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
Hypothetically my child is missing. My child is missing mainly because I ididn’t tend to and look after said child( went on the razz and left her unattended with her younger siblings) I desperately want her back unharmed. What do I do? Have faith in the police like every other case of a missing child in this situation or I wing it and set up a campaign, fund, wristbands etc. Why would I make one choice over another? Police V’s Wrisbands/T-shirts etc? Because it is a choice. The advice given in one case we all know about is to keep some information secret ie distiguishing features .. Why feel the empowerment to go against said advice and wing it? As a humble parent of a hypothetically missing child I would not waiver from any “do it by the book” advice I was given . The do it by the book advice is advice from professionals who have been in this situation before in the paramiters of their job, I as a parent of a hypothetically missing child have not. Why would I wing it? Why do I feel that in such a vunerable situatuion, ie my hypothetical child is missing, do I feel such an empowerment I set up a fund, commision t-shirts, wristbands, baloons etc???? Why ???
This explanation will probably remain with me forever :
——————————————————
He also sought to explain yesterday why sniffer dogs — trained to detect the “smell of death” — allegedly became so excited when shown the boot of the car.
“There was a regular run with the boot of the car being full of rubbish including bags of rotting fruit, rotting meat and soiled nappies belonging to the twins.”
——————————————————–
Those were highly, very expensively trained sniffer dogs …. the first thing they are probably taught is to distinguish between “disguising” smells and the real thing. If they are going to be deterred and get excited by the smell of anything rotting, then why the hell train them in the first place …. even my dogs, who are just pets, will get excited by the smell of rotting meat …. they want to gobble it up! Some people who believe this are just so gullible, others, well … a tad more intelligent !
From truth for Madeleine
Profit from wristsbands 1300%
WRISTBANDS & MERCHANDISE
The Madeleine Fund accepted donations to help find missing Madeleine. One vehicle used to advertise and raise her profile were the yellow wristbands pictured on the left. The wristbands went on sale soon after the company was formed and are still on sale via the company website for a whopping £2 each. This may not seem like a lot of money but considering anyone can buy custom silicone wristbands for less than 14 pence each, it is scandalous that the Madeleine Fund are selling them at a profit of over 1300%.
