Madeleine McCann: Carlos Anjos Says, Clarence Mitchell Replies And The Daily Express Is Quiet
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN: “Maddie cops snub”
Carlos Anjos, head of the Portuguese Police Federation, says: “There are bigger problems in the police”, than the case of Madeleine McCann
Says Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns’ spokesman: “Mr Anjos is entitled to his opinion but it is entirely unhelpful”
This the same Carlos Anjos who once noted:
“There is no criminal investigation which can feed a news frenzy for six months, so what we have seen are both English and Portuguese journalists behaving in a scandalous and unprofessional way. Writing terrible stories in the papers, some of which have clearly affected the McCanns… now we have to say that the McCanns are partly to blame for this. Because it was something they created”
And then one of the oddest lines yet seen in a newspaper:
“Meanwhile cops have ruled out a theory the four-year-old could have been snatched by Swiss pervert Urs Hans Von Aesch. He blew his chance in august after killing a girl of five”
Anyone care to explain that comment?
DAILY STAR: “FIND MADDIE? WE’VE GOT BETTER THINGS TO DO. HEAD COP BLASTS McCANN SEARCH”
Says Mr Anjos: “There are bigger problems than the Maddie case”
Why the Star should appear shocked at this seem unclear, given the tabloid stories of paedophilia being rife in Portugal
Says Mr Anjos: “I am certain that all of my colleagues involved in the investigation are doing everything they can to discover what happened”
DAILY MIRROR: “Maddy’s ‘not our priority’”
Mr Anjos made his views known in Portuguese newspaper 24 Horas
MARI Luz Cortes – Still missing. Her father has posted a £110,000 reward, The paper reports that police are “scaling down the search”
DAILY MAIL: “Maddie? We’ve got bigger problems”
Says Mr Anjos: “But with respect, there are bigger problems in the Policia Judiciaria than the Madeleine case”
DAILY EXPRESS: NO MADELEINE NEWS – Which is the biggest Madeleine McCann news of the past six months

Thanks for copying your post Katy.
“One of the other little things that bothers me is why they did not run straight to Jez Wilkins on the night, and ask him did he see her, or anything. They NEVER asked him -who was walking in the neighbourhood at the time???”
This is really interesting and haven’t seen it mentioned on here before although it is really obvious.

Actually, I seem to recall having mentioned it when his wife’s article came out. It seemed really weird that they knew he’s been walking his child and never asked him anything. My theory is that, as apparently a lot of Luz has pavements and streets that are difficult to walk on with a pram, he had been walking only in the area immediately surrounding the apartments. Hence, if he were to say that had not seen anything, it would be a really strong pointer that there was no abductor.

He did manage to survive.
Has written more about the general case. Critical of the Press and their lack of
proper reporting.

I can confirm GM had connections to Celtic FC, but that is another story. You would think they would give it up fot lent.

Big day of spin victories for CM yesterday. Very noticeable that the Mail has just a small snippet today – which refutes the “case being dropped” headlines of yesterday. There’s more spin in this case than Warne and Murali could ever muster. Does CM have a Doosra to go with his many ‘wrong uns’!!!

Hi Dcb my post from last night:

Katy Says:
Yes though it was very quick. It was like they were going through a ritual. In fact on the day I remember saying to my husband, it’s like a removal, but they don’t have a funeral, just a removal, week after week…
I asid to Gerry “they will find her” and he said “Ach I don’t know….” Then I said, look someone knows, someone knows what happened, and then he quickly looked at Kate and that was end of conversation.
My family say I am exaggerating this piece but I keep thinking about it.
One of the other little things that bothers me is why they did not run straight to Jez Wilkins on the night, and ask him did he see her, or anything. They NEVER asked him -who was walking in the neighbourhood at the time???
As for the contacts in high places bit - I reckon the two countries just want it ended now, feelings run so high - no matter who they were I think it would be dropped now….
Anyway, as I said, meeting them did not really enlighten me, though at the time, I was inclined to believe them and felt very sorry for them. They were very publicly accessible, anyone in Luz would know to find them at Mass and they stood outside where a line formed to speak to them. A bit like an Irish removal, the evning before the funeral, and this struck me at the time - removal each week but no funeral…
We were chatting with friends and suddenly there was jsut them and us so we couldn’t not speak. She was “receiving” a line of Portguese women all hugging her, which is why I spoke to him. I thought she looked sedated, not a line on her face, no expression. I did feel very sorry for them and cried afterwards i must say.
It doesn’t make me that Luz is any less safe than before, but I would like to know what the hell happened!

Maybe the answer would be to write letters to all the Press telling of our concerns and
thoughts on Government interference, McCaan hampering Portugese investigation with
supposed sightings etc and just see if they are published.

That was probably the only worthwhile and sensible Column written by any of
our so-called Journo’s during that whole period.
Read it when first printed….wish other;s would be as candid in other areas.

Good morning to you and all
That”s some criticism!!!!!!! Must say though if we are honest, we can all recognise some
truth in what was said, after all, everything we post is based on Press reports which are
sheer “source” quotes, nothing actually confirmed.
Anyway, our hearts are in the right place, we all want this case resolved and Justice for
Madeleine.

Don’t follow why it was a troll. I would have thought it was someone who copied it from somewhere else and posted it on 3arguidos for their information. Just like it’s been posted here. In fact, I think the last paragraph (from “How many …” onwards” is the opinion of the 3a poster.

Paedophile suicide in new Madeleine link
” The man, who has since returned to Britain, is under suspicion because of contraditions in witness statements that he gave to police.
A source close to the Portuguese police investigation said: “Murat was not the only person in the frame. Another man has been under surveillance for a period of time but has no idea that he is being watched.”
I wonder who this is?

coolandcalm, we are in complete agreement. I have nothing against any poster in here who avoids making it personal, whatever their views may be.
It would be a bit pointless if we all agreed all the time though!

aardvarko… I agree with you absolutely, it should continue to be discussed and alternatives considered… However its far better to discect the opinion than the person who posted it!
Surely anything that opens the discussion up is good, even if the views aren’t one’s own?
When it gets personal then the debate is diluted.

52 - indeed
February 8th, 2008 at 9:56 am
That post, which Hanassus has kindly repost this morning, is notable for its absence of any given alternatives.
What’s supposed to happen now?
Do we all sit about quietly, while it appears that nothing is happening?
Are we not allowed to discuss or to speculate?
There is a very famous poem by Martin Niemoller entitled “First they came”. You are probably familiar with the story - if not, Google it. I think that poem illustrates what happens when people ignore things which they know are not right.
We need to keep banging on about this. We know that most of what we write is just speculation (and probably wrong), but we need to keep the debate going, keep the issues alive, when we perceive that things are not as they should be.
February 8th, 2008 at 9:52 am
How come anyone psoting an alternative opinion is a troll? I actually agree with much of what was said in the post but I’m not a troll, or a plant, or paid up member of ‘Team McCann’ (duh!) or even a keyboard chimp!
I think the way I think………. its called democracy!
