Madeleine McCann: ‘Screaming Contradictions’, Scotland Yard And Francisco Marco Interviewed
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
SUNDAY EXPRESS (front page): “MADELEINE – News call for Scotland Yard probe”
Are Scotland Yard for hire? Benazir Bhutto. And McCann? Have the discovered who killed Rhys Jones yet?
“Retired Chief Superintendent Dai Davies, former head of the Yard’s Royal Protection unit, says that if the Yard can send detectives to probe the assassination of Benazir Bhutto in Pakistan, then they should also fly to Portugal to try and solve the Madeleine mystery”
He says:
“The Portuguese investigation has quite simply not solved the crime and it is now looking increasingly likely that it will be shelved. I would suggest that this is the time to call on the Yard to take the lead and to get them to form a team of detectives to work on the case”
Retired copper suggests his old boys are the best – Read all about it!
GLASGOW SUNDAY MAIL: “Police Ready To Clear McCanns Over Maddie”
“Police in Portugal are set to clear Kate and Gerry McCann as suspects, it was claimed last night”
A fact claimed by “insiders” who say “officers did not have a shred of evidence against the 39-year-old couple”
The McCanns’ spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, says: “This report is extremely encouraging”
SUNDAY PEOPLE: “Kate and Gerry ‘in the clear’”
“Police do not have a shred of evidence against Gerry and Kate McCann and they are set to be cleared as suspects, it was claimed yesterday. The couple’s status as ‘arguidos’ in the case of missing daughter Maddie, four, will be lifted unless they make ‘screaming contradictions’ in a new police quiz, said Portugal paper Expresso”
How does Expresso know? The paper does not say
SUNDAY MIRROR: “McCann cops: No evidence”
“A review of the case by homicide experts from the Judicial Police has turned up no proof that Kate and Gerry McCann played a part in four-year-old Madeleine’s disappearance.
“Attorney General Fernando Pinto Montiero told respected Portuguese newspaper Expresso: ‘The couple’s legal status will be considered at the appropriate moment, depending on various elements still to be obtained’”
Says Expresso: “They will only remain arguidos (suspects) if there are screaming contradictions revealed in the answers to the letters sent to England”
DAILY STAR ON SUNDAY: “MCCANNS TO BE CLEARED”
“Last night the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell said the sooner they are questioned the better”
He says: “There won’t be any screaming contradictions and hopefully the emphasis can then be put on finding Madeleine, who we believe is still alive”
Says the paper: “Legal letters outlining the 40 questions are to be sent to the Home Office this week. Interviews are then likely to be carried out by detectives from Leicestershire police, the McCanns’ local force”
Says Gerry McCann’s brother John McCann: “Any sensible person realises Madeleine was abducted. We didn’t anticipate being in this position after nine months”
THE SUNDAY TIMES: “Madeleine McCann and Metodo 3: Private eyes, public lies”
“Paid £50,000 a month to find Madeleine McCann, the Spanish detective Francisco Marco said he hoped to have her home for Christmas. He issued this photofit of a suspect last month; it set off a media frenzy, but Portuguese police say it has ‘no credibility’. Christine Toomey turns the tables on a private eye who is anything but…
An interview with Francisco Marco. His company is being paid £50,000 a month by the McCann’s fighting fund
“We won’t answer any questions about Maddie. Maddie is off limits – is that understood?” Marco’s cousin Jose Luis, another of the agency’s employees, warns me sternly”
But they are not the police. What can they not talk about the big case? It was Mr Franciso who told he’d find Madeleine by Christmas – last Christmas
“I cannot ask him to clarify what he did say, or whether talking about an ongoing investigation is potentially detrimental. Instead, I am left to discuss the matter with a handful of other private detective agencies in Barcelona, the private-eye capital of Spain. What they tell me is disturbing”
Marco walks in. Does he bring his Maddy dolly? And:
“Marco slaps on the table a 144-page pre-prepared dossier of articles written in the Spanish press about himself and M-3. He goes on to list some of those in the city he says I have already been speaking to about his company. Had my movements been monitored? If so, why would a private detective agency be interested in this at a time when they were supposed to be tirelessly searching for the most famous missing child in the world?”
Fame.
“In most of the many pictures of himself included in the material he hands me”
Metodo 3 is the most famous private detective agency in Europe
“He seems eager to please. He summons a female assistant on several occasions to bring me material, including a book he has recently written, to illustrate what he is talking about. Even when I make it clear this is not necessary – aware that these distractions eat into the time we have to talk – he insists, partly showing off”
Then:
“When I ask about his background, Marco summons her [secretary] to photocopy the first pages of his doctoral thesis on private investigation: he has a master’s degree and a PhD in penal law”
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “McCanns to be cleared as no evidence found”
Attorney General Fernando Pinto Montiero told Expresso: “The couple’s legal status will be considered at the appropriate moment, depending on various elements still to be obtained.”
Madeleine McCann: Money. Speculation. Sensation. A child is missing…

Back again since I#m the only one on the other thread.
Clarrie and Govt spin docs very busy today I suspect. This will all be wrapped up and buried.
They wo n’t have enough evidence to convict; and neither side politicos want this to run.
Stevo’s theories about who knows who and why - I think not a conspiracy, jut people who do know each other.
I have a mate married to a UK diplomat in Washington. If something happened me in US I would just ring her. We all use people we know.
Indeed if I had done something wrong maybe I wouldn’t.
As the facts stand I do not think the Mc Canns innocent. But if they would answer all the questions I might be convinced. Answer in a court that is, not a media stunt.
Sadly police to get carried away - in all countries they can make mistakes.
but there are serious questions here and the police must be allowed ask them!!!

107 can”t say no
Because they weren”t mentioned in the timeline I was reading!!!!!!!
As a comparative newcomer to Anorak, I do not have any information or such retentative
memories as most of your regular contributors.
that”s why it is helpful when posters supply info because I am not computer literate either.

“I think they will clear the McCs jsut to get it all out of the press…”
REPLY: The PJ might, for various reasons, terminate their investigation, and lift the McCanns’ ‘arguido’ status.
But that will not ‘clear’ the McCanns, and certainly would not do so in the court of public opinion

Val 106… the McCanns did go to Morocco…….
February 10th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
going to new thread - I was first on there today!
I think they will clear the Mc Cs jsut to get it al out of the press and try and save the tourism.
We have zilch queries for our Luz holiday home this year compared to about 60 queries and full summer solid bookings this time last year.
Whether merely neglectful or indeed much worse, this pair have destroyed the lives of a lot of people in Luz, many of them ex-pat Brits who did not ask for or deserve this. And who helped search, etc etc.
Go to Luz, beautiful spot!

Having trouble with identifying the nannies aren”t I…..what do I know!!!!!!! Sorry about that.
Just been reading Matt”s post about arguidos, nothing I didn”t know already, but read the
timeline of events bit and apparently, May 9th a Norwegian tourist saw a little girl
similar to Madeleine at a Moroccan Petrol Station. Apparently, she was saying to a man “can I see my Mummy soon”. Also, the same day a Brit sees a possible Madeleine near the Ibis Hotel in Marrakesh.
This would seem very important and so soon after Madeleine”s disappearance I would hope it was quickly followed up…….do you know if the McCann”s dropped everything and rushed to
Morocco?

Logic
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE POLITICAL PRESSUR FROM U.K.
LET THE POLICE DO THEIR WORK ,THEY HAVE EVIDENCES AGAINST THE MCCANNS ,WHY IS G. B. OBSTRUCTING THE INVESTIGATION ???
February 10th, 2008 at 11:56 am
I think there might be connections to Pakistan that could be well dodgy if you believe the the 911 conspiracy theory.

“The Whore of Rome. You mean Jane Tanner? She and Gerry seem awfully close…”
REPLY: It’s all in Revelation Chapter 17. The task is to work out the identity of ‘the woman’ and ‘the whore’. Revelation 1 v 1 tells you to interpret the Book of Revelation symbolically and not literally.
II Samuel Chap 12 is the page said to have been heavily creased and crumpled in Kate McCann’s Bible - and it deals with the death of a child.
The events in II Samuel Chap 12 followed this event (the death) and are recorded in II Samuel Chap 11, beginning at v. 2:
“And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David [King David of David and Goliath fame] arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon”.
The woman’s name was Bathsheba.
David fancied her, though she was married to Uriah.
She fell pregnant by David.
David hatched a successful plot to get Uriah killed.
The child of the union between Bathsheba and David - a son - was born, and then died (II Samuel 12 v 19).
Bathsheba and David then had another son.
His name was Solomon (II Samuel 12 v. 24)

Can’t say no, what is the feeling in Portugal about whether the investigation is going to be dropped? Is this all a lot of rubbish from the McCann team?

“MCCANNS TO BE CLEARED”
My arse !!
Ask Mr. G.B. ,to give smoe JUSTICE to Maddie, he has obstructed the investigation to much !!
February 10th, 2008 at 11:45 am
Is Scotland Yard on hire to the highest bidder then? I thought we had enough crimes here at home without sending them off to the far flung regions!
February 10th, 2008 at 11:43 am
Matt 73
I totally agree with you. As a country, we are in an extremely precarious state if Scotland Yard have agreed to investigate Bhutto’s death with a view to saying that it was accidental. They can have no evidence about this case at all. As you say, the Pakistani authorities could hand over whatever “evidence” they like. Is Britain’s destiny simply to become a nation of whitewashers? What about truth, transparency and justice? The transparency that our politicians are always talking about makes me laugh - they don’t seem to know the meaning of the word!
February 10th, 2008 at 11:40 am
Coo and Calm Says:
On a slightly different topic why was The Yard involved in the death of Benazir Bhutto? I’m a little bewildered by that.
***********************************
Its my understanding that Pakistani President Musharraff asked Scotland Yard to investigate Ms Bhutos’s Death.
Therfore it comes back to the Jurisdiction again. Leicester Police are already involved and cooperating with the Portugese investigation.

Mr Davies has travelled to Praia da Luz and closely studied the lay out of the Mark Warner complex and the entry points to the McCanns’ holiday apartment from where Madeleine disappeared shortly before her fourth birthday on May 3 last year.
He concluded that her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, both 39, were not involved in her disappearance……..”
————————
So Mr Davies went to PDL and his bloody war wounds from World War 1 started playing up on his leg.
Then suddenly the roads and the walls started whispering…the Holy Ones are innocent …the Holy Ones are innocent…I wonder what Gandolf has to say about that.
