Madeleine McCann: ‘Screaming Contradictions’, Scotland Yard And Francisco Marco Interviewed
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
SUNDAY EXPRESS (front page): “MADELEINE – News call for Scotland Yard probe”
Are Scotland Yard for hire? Benazir Bhutto. And McCann? Have the discovered who killed Rhys Jones yet?
“Retired Chief Superintendent Dai Davies, former head of the Yard’s Royal Protection unit, says that if the Yard can send detectives to probe the assassination of Benazir Bhutto in Pakistan, then they should also fly to Portugal to try and solve the Madeleine mystery”
He says:
“The Portuguese investigation has quite simply not solved the crime and it is now looking increasingly likely that it will be shelved. I would suggest that this is the time to call on the Yard to take the lead and to get them to form a team of detectives to work on the case”
Retired copper suggests his old boys are the best – Read all about it!
GLASGOW SUNDAY MAIL: “Police Ready To Clear McCanns Over Maddie”
“Police in Portugal are set to clear Kate and Gerry McCann as suspects, it was claimed last night”
A fact claimed by “insiders” who say “officers did not have a shred of evidence against the 39-year-old couple”
The McCanns’ spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, says: “This report is extremely encouraging”
SUNDAY PEOPLE: “Kate and Gerry ‘in the clear’”
“Police do not have a shred of evidence against Gerry and Kate McCann and they are set to be cleared as suspects, it was claimed yesterday. The couple’s status as ‘arguidos’ in the case of missing daughter Maddie, four, will be lifted unless they make ‘screaming contradictions’ in a new police quiz, said Portugal paper Expresso”
How does Expresso know? The paper does not say
SUNDAY MIRROR: “McCann cops: No evidence”
“A review of the case by homicide experts from the Judicial Police has turned up no proof that Kate and Gerry McCann played a part in four-year-old Madeleine’s disappearance.
“Attorney General Fernando Pinto Montiero told respected Portuguese newspaper Expresso: ‘The couple’s legal status will be considered at the appropriate moment, depending on various elements still to be obtained’”
Says Expresso: “They will only remain arguidos (suspects) if there are screaming contradictions revealed in the answers to the letters sent to England”
DAILY STAR ON SUNDAY: “MCCANNS TO BE CLEARED”
“Last night the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell said the sooner they are questioned the better”
He says: “There won’t be any screaming contradictions and hopefully the emphasis can then be put on finding Madeleine, who we believe is still alive”
Says the paper: “Legal letters outlining the 40 questions are to be sent to the Home Office this week. Interviews are then likely to be carried out by detectives from Leicestershire police, the McCanns’ local force”
Says Gerry McCann’s brother John McCann: “Any sensible person realises Madeleine was abducted. We didn’t anticipate being in this position after nine months”
THE SUNDAY TIMES: “Madeleine McCann and Metodo 3: Private eyes, public lies”
“Paid £50,000 a month to find Madeleine McCann, the Spanish detective Francisco Marco said he hoped to have her home for Christmas. He issued this photofit of a suspect last month; it set off a media frenzy, but Portuguese police say it has ‘no credibility’. Christine Toomey turns the tables on a private eye who is anything but…
An interview with Francisco Marco. His company is being paid £50,000 a month by the McCann’s fighting fund
“We won’t answer any questions about Maddie. Maddie is off limits – is that understood?” Marco’s cousin Jose Luis, another of the agency’s employees, warns me sternly”
But they are not the police. What can they not talk about the big case? It was Mr Franciso who told he’d find Madeleine by Christmas – last Christmas
“I cannot ask him to clarify what he did say, or whether talking about an ongoing investigation is potentially detrimental. Instead, I am left to discuss the matter with a handful of other private detective agencies in Barcelona, the private-eye capital of Spain. What they tell me is disturbing”
Marco walks in. Does he bring his Maddy dolly? And:
“Marco slaps on the table a 144-page pre-prepared dossier of articles written in the Spanish press about himself and M-3. He goes on to list some of those in the city he says I have already been speaking to about his company. Had my movements been monitored? If so, why would a private detective agency be interested in this at a time when they were supposed to be tirelessly searching for the most famous missing child in the world?”
Fame.
“In most of the many pictures of himself included in the material he hands me”
Metodo 3 is the most famous private detective agency in Europe
“He seems eager to please. He summons a female assistant on several occasions to bring me material, including a book he has recently written, to illustrate what he is talking about. Even when I make it clear this is not necessary – aware that these distractions eat into the time we have to talk – he insists, partly showing off”
Then:
“When I ask about his background, Marco summons her [secretary] to photocopy the first pages of his doctoral thesis on private investigation: he has a master’s degree and a PhD in penal law”
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “McCanns to be cleared as no evidence found”
Attorney General Fernando Pinto Montiero told Expresso: “The couple’s legal status will be considered at the appropriate moment, depending on various elements still to be obtained.”
Madeleine McCann: Money. Speculation. Sensation. A child is missing…

I agree entirely. If this were a game of chess then the PJ have just put the mccannns and T group in revealed check, with a threat on the queen. They have to protect the king (answer the questions) and risk losing the queen (one, or more of them, make a mistake).

How can the Tgroup now say that they don’t want to answer the questions when the PJ have offered the carrot of lifting arguido status at the end of it unless they find them to be lying - which of course theTgroup say they are not.

Tony Bennett
Val is saying : Don”t know what would happen if Kate still refuses to answer the 40 questions.
Please,could you answer this?
And dont you think it would “good” if Scotland Yards take the case in its own hands?
(Although the PJ has refused in the past for what has been said in the media of course)

Lucky you!
I dont understand anything anymore.
If the PJ doesnt charge them then….no,it cant be,it cant be….
It may just be false news - I am hanging onto that- it may be a strategy from the PJ to make them relax and when it comes down to quiz them again, they would make mistakes and get done??I dont believe the PJ is just going to make up its mind -shelve the case,no arrest- just and only reviewing the T9″s declaration because they have accumulated an awful lot of proof and just cant throw it out the window.I just cant believe it.

Back in from the sunshine for a mo’
This is my take on the current press coverage from the McCann’s perspective.
There is going to be a second round of interviews with the Mccann’s being interviewed last. They will definitely remain arguidos up until the interviews are over. If there are no ’screaming contradictions’ arising out of these interviews then aguido/a status will be lifted. wasn’t this always going to be the case?
Now, for the McCann’s this is an interesting threat. Who decides what the ’screaming contradictions are: the PJ, so the balls in their court.
Secondly how are all the potential interviewees supposed to respond to that? They could have their story all tightened and wrapped up but without knowing what the PJ have, they can’t know if they are contradicting the evidence.
Furthermore, each can’t know how the other is going to react or what they are going to come up with in response to the unknown evidence held by the PJ, which could range from DNA, circumstancial, CCTV, independent witnesses, images, phone logs etc etc. So there is really no way for them (Mccanns et al) to anticipate and guarentee that there will not be any obvious contradictions.
Bet they’re all in a right pickle getting nickers in a twist at the mo’ PJ must be loving this.
so IMO it’s a lot of hot air and a no-win situation for all of those who are going to be questioned.

Jo, look around you at your world, it is not a pleasant place for many of its inhabitants, there is little justice within the realm of men. There are those, subject to the law of those over and above the law, so it always has been and will be at least on Earth, why are you so surprised, the priest knows.

I don”t think there is anything we can do , unless these “screaming contradictions” prove
enough to make a charge. No doubt the recent meeting of the Tapas 9 resulted in their
co-ordinating their “statements” and the McCanns would have been well briefed by their
U.K. Lawyers. Don”t know what would happen if Kate still refuses to answer the 40 questions.

157 Jolie says (February 10th, 2008 at 1:29 pm):
“I read through your list again and wondered if you had ever found a source stating that the police asked for the twins’ urine to be tested at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance, as I had been unable to back when you first published the list”.
REPLY: Not an official source, no. If I cannot do so, this will be deleted from the ‘21 Reasons’ when it’s published on The Madeleine Foundation website. I will careefully re-check every statement before it goes up there.
Also, I don’t remember reading about the Tapas 7 not searching for Madeleine (just Kate sitting in her apartment) and was hoping that you would provide some sources for this as well.
REPLY: I think there are several sources for this, including (I believe) some comments in the articles by Jeremy Wilkins’ partner and David Smith just before Christmas. But once again I will check.
I know you can’t put more than one link on posts, but perhaps you could type up your sources by publication/website and date to help others confirm the truth and accuracy of what you are putting forth.
REPLY: I agree with your main idea, though when ‘21 Reasons’ in its final form does go up, I don’t want it to have to feature an exhaustive list of sources. We will do what we can
Thanks.
REPLY: I take your comments as well meant and constructive and I thank you for them. On your advice (I think) I have modified the reference to how often stranger abductions from inside people’s homes occurs. I said 99% before - a figure I believe I could justify. I have asked people (on other forums) to supply instances of complete strangers removing young children from homes - and about the only example I get given is the child ’stolen from the bathroom’ in a case up north somewhere. But I think even that was by someone the child already knew
February 10th, 2008 at 2:06 pm

I do not believe the abduction scenario (or at least am very skeptical of it).
Truth is truth, is it not, no matter what ’side’ you’re playing for.
Speculating is one thing. Publishing a list to persuade others in a semi-official capacity to possibly bring civil action against citizens requires a much higher standard, one that someone as educated and experienced as Tony Bennett must understand and appreciate.
If one item on this list is proven to be inaccurate and false, then the rest of the items will be looked at with mistrust, will they not? It’s the same as we look at the McCanns and their supporters–once they were caught lying, we mistrust everything they say .

In which planet do you live?
The PJ concealing the truth?or being OBLIGED on account of political gits to shut up?
And yes on that one I agree with you: human justice proves once again its non existance.
