Be warned this demonstrates a confirmed case of Regional newspaper urgentitis.
“Visiting times at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital are set to be slashed as part of a major battle against superbugs,” gasps the Evening News.
“Last month hospital bosses proposed to limit normal ward visiting to new times of 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm, cutting two hours from the current 2pm to 8pm slot.
“They launched a consultation to gauge what the public thought of this move and from 630 people questioned eight out of 10 believed times should be restricted, although 19pc said more visiting should be allowed.
“The county’s watchdog, the Patient and Public Involvement Forum, has also backed the plans which the hospital claims will reduce the chance of infections being brought into wards by visitors and also help nursing staff spend more time with their patients and not dealing with visitors.
2As well as killer superbugs such as MRSA and Clostridium difficile being a concern to all NHS Trusts, in recent weeks the stomach bug Norovirus has been circulating.”
Just a small point here then.
The conventional wisdom among doctors is hospitals are net exporters of superbugs. The risks are to the visitor not the other way round.
Call me overly critical but isn’t the more likely scenario when there are fewer visitors and visitor hours allowed, ward staff levels can be reduced even further. Save money not lives.
