RileyB - I did not know that about Ms Cole... one might think that someone with a similarly checkered past would have a little more compassion and sympathy for a fellow sufferer.
But then many alleged Christians conveniently forget such things.
Maybe Amy should have married a man of the cloth too, then all her sins would have been forgiven also...

What I don't understand is why all these celebrities, and the media for that matter, are behaving as if they have never heard of such a thing as a musician having issues with drugs & alcohol....
Amy Winehouse is a big talent, and I personally prefer to listen to her kind of soul bearing , honest lyrics than NC's karaoke version of "unforgettable" with her dad for the umpteenth time! And that's the only Natalie Cole song I can name off the top of my head, and it isn't even her song. Hmmmm.
BUT what really made me almost choke on my coffee was hearing KEITH RICHARDS waxing hypocritical about her drug use and how she needs to get her shit together - really! WTF? Hello pot? This is kettle... you're black....

Has anyone really given a cr*p about Natalie Cole in the last FEW years before she opened her big yapper? Nat King Cole was much better anyway. I hesitate to use the 'h' word (cough*hasbeen*cough) but it appears that she was simply looking for some free publicity for herself and took a shot at an easy target. Way to kick someone when they're down. Your father would be so proud.

I have been a fan of Natalie Cole since the release of her first album, Inseparable. The mature Diva has also battled addiction with heroin, crack, cocaine, and alcohol. I was appalled by her holy than thou attitude towards Ms. Winehouse, who is in rehab for the same drug problem.

Let's not forget the train wreck that Natalie was. Just because she has chosen to marry men of the cloth, it does not spare her from the scrutiny of her own past. I truly wonder what her coping level would be today if the paparazzi was constantly on her every breath and watching her 24/7, or if a trusted friend recorded her when she was shooting up--come on, give me a break. Natalie was off base (or maybe jealous!) when she said that Amy was undeserving of her awards. Amy was awarded for her pure TALENT, CREATIVITY and GENIUS, most of which Natalie has is lacking. So, as she sits up on her perch of perfection, let's remind Natalie of a verse in the Bible which says, "Let he who has not sinned caste the first stone."

I am excited to see that the recording industry embraces and recognizes true artistry. Last night a star was shinning via satellite without the traditional glitz, glamour, and choreography of the showcase.

A LEGEND WAS BORN.

Someone is going to have to convince me that this is anything more than envy.
Yes, I am aware that Ms. Cole has won 8 Grammies herself. I believe that it HAS BEEN about 11 years since the last one and didn't she receive 4 of 5 in the '90s for a 'collaboration' with her father when she reinvented herself as a Jazz singer?
In other words, I don't see her as a trail-blazer. There is a pretty good-sized gap between her work in the '70s and the '90s when she decided that following her dad was NOT such a bad thing. She is old news. HAS BEEN since the '70s. I preferred her father's rendition of Unforgettable in any case.
Ms. Cole just wanted another little taste of celebrity-more than being a presenter at an awards show would provide. (There is more than one kind of addiction.) Quite frankly, the nonsense that the Grammys should hold up better role models feels like a thin disguise for jealousy. How does she know that Amy didn't work hard on the Album? That she was on drugs when the album was finished about 15 months ago? Psychic friends? Personal experience obviously. Natalie did not 'sacrifice' 5 years. She threw them away. She's recovered? Great! She didn't have someone sticking their self-righteous nose in her business.
If you look to others for role models or for role models for your children you are a fool. If you can't be one for your kids, please give them to someone who can. If you have none, please do not have any until you are able to be that role model.

She told you she's no good. She told you they tried to make her go to rehab and she said no. But she went to rehab, and she's back in rehab after her monster Grammy win and not out there playing the fool. She ain't no hypocrite by the looks of it.

So Amy's got problems, and she's living them out publicly, and she better fix them for her own good. And I'm not going to applaud her for messing around with drugs because my 10 year old daughter absolutely loves her voice but was left rather affected when she started hearing and seeing all these stories about the going-ons in Amy's personal life with the photos to match. But does Amy TAINT the music industry with her drug-taking ways? Is she a sinner among saints? I say no, no, no. I'm sure Natalie won't hesitate to say so herself.

Natalie Cole, you been there, you done that. Take a leaf from Mary J Blige's book and send some love out there so another lost sister - like yourself - can learn to live again.

Love yourself, Amy. LOVE yourself.

Amy Winehouse is a big talent and not to award that would be an injustice, her personal life has nothing to do with her musical talents. She has never claimed to be a role model for young folks parents should be role models for there children not public figures. Stop blaming Amy and other celebrities for your children going wrong stop trying to pass the buck and take responsibility.
