Madeleine McCann: Lying To Children, Ian McEwan And Questions
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR: “McCann pals face new quiz”
“It is understood Jane Tanner, Russell O’Brien and David Payne, three of the Tapas Seven, may be questioned over alleged inconsistencies in their statements”
“Understood” and “may.” Such are the facts. Such is the reporting
Say the McCanns’ family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “There is no suggestion Kate and Gerry will be re-interviewed”
And “suggestion”
DAILY RECORD: “One Last Try To Get Maddie Answers”
“Staff at the resort where Madeleine McCann vanished have again been quizzed by detectives. It comes as they prepare to re-interview pals of Kate and Gerry McCann in a last-ditch bid to crack the case”
Anyone we know questioned?
“Pool cleaner Luis Antonio, the husband of suspect Robert Murat’s girlfriend Michaela Walczuch, was one of five questioned in Praia da Luz”
Any reason why they were quizzed once more?
A judicial source tells Portuguese newspaper 24 Horas: “Several police interviews have been repeated. The statements are being analysed to try to find any lead that could result in a new line of investigation”
Analysing statements, eh. Technical stuff…
In his internet blog yesterday, Gerry McCann vowed not to give up looking for his young daughter, adding: “We hope the police are similarly determined”
DAILY EXPRESS: “POLICE LAST CHANCE TO FIND MADELEINE”
“Five staff members who were at the Ocean Club complex on the night she went missing have been quizzed in recent days as pressure mounts to conclude the investigation”
Why those five? Which five? The WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER does not say
THE SUN: “Cops’ final bid to solve Maddie”
Michaela Walczuch “who denies any involvement in Maddie’s disappearance – was allegedly spotted in Zaio, Morocco, on June 15, moments after a girl resembling Madeleine was seen being dragged away by an African woman”
Three of the McCanns’ freins witll be spoken to by police.
A “source” says: “It sounded like they were concerned about timeline inconsistencies. But if you have nine people not wearing watches, it would be suspicious if their times matched exactly”
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Lying to children”
“From white lies to whoppers, vagueness with the truth is part of parenthood. But as Katie Tait learns from one psychologist, deceiving children is never justified”
Recently I told Kitty, our youngest child, that the police car had pulled us over because she was screaming in the back of the car (in fact I was, stupidly, speeding, but partly as a result of her noise). She is now mousey-quiet on journeys. My caprice over the tooth fairy has reached such an extent that the correspondence between “Molly” and my daughter Agnes fills two whole shoe boxes.
Then there are the areas that I don’t really want them to know the whole truth about. Will they get scared if I tell them that Madeleine McCann, whose picture they have seen everywhere, was taken from her bed? What about the news stories of dogs biting children to death? Will they ever go near next door’s puppy again? To me, vagueness with the truth is part of being a human being and certainly part of being a parent. But apparently, I am deeply wrong.
Maybe Katie’s children can read the truth in her article?
THE AGE (Aus): “The private and the public”
An interview with Ian McEwan, the author: “Journalists rang him because the disappearance of four-year-old Madeleine bore a dark similarity to the plot of his 1987 novel, The Child in Time, when a father has his three-year old girl stolen from him in a supermarket”
DVDTOWN: “GONE BABY GONE”
If you’re thinking that this film was a quick knockoff inspired by the real-life Madeleine McCann case–the little girl who disappeared from her family’s Portugal vacation home while her mom and dad were at a party not far away–it’s really just another case of life imitating art. Lehane’s novel about a four-year-old girl who turns up missing under similar circumstances was published way back in 1994.

Hi, âde, thank you for the link.
Every time you write the word “fun” I’m immediatley cheered up! It always works.

the last enemy on telly tonight at 9 p.m. BBC1
sounds familiar to some posts today
“it’s also packed with zeitgeist-y elements - oppressive CCTV surveillance, isometric ID cards, curtailed freedoms. But there should be more to a political drama than characters looking worried as they hover in front of computer monitors. Berry’s script does lead us down some dark paths, though, as it posits a Britain, probably not too far in the future, whose population is held in a stranglehold of mass authoritarian government surveillance.”
i like the “a Britain, probably not too far in the future” bit
excellent fun

You seem to think that you are the only person alive who believes in the power and dangers of the drugs companies. I don’t know what this film is about - presumably it warns about this. If so, I don’t need to watch a film about it to frighten myself even further. I’m glad though that some other more naive people may be alerted to dangers they might not have realised were there. I am all in favour of an informed population!
I said “the likes of you” because, whilst I acknowledge your absolute right to your opinion, I feel very strongly about cannabis, and find your opinion about it abhorrent. This is mainly because of its profoundly dangerous effect on young people. You have given your opinion - and I have given mine. And I did not glean my information from any drugs company - I have used my own senses.
It may have sounded rude to say “the likes of you”. I included in that all the other people who think it is OK to encourage the downfall of the young. You also have the right to think that I am a bigot - but at least I’m not a dangerous bigot!

Administrator: My nerveless fingers are twitching ever closer the antimacassar Rooster my fine feathered friend. Gratuitous and unnecessary language is a no no. I believe you have, on occasion, had useful thoughts to contribute here.
Calm yourself and debate. I have no wish to throttle you (in cyber-world of course) but ask around in here and you’ll quickly understand I will if I have to.
If I act again because of your behaviour I regret, unlike the lovely Carmen’s humorous bon mot, my actions may very well be terminal

Thanks, but since you are not M&A, I think I’ll stick around for a while.
Seems to be, all your posts are about you and your feelings, Rooster. Don’t you have anything else to say?

Ask yourself why you smoke dope in the first place. It alters your mind and your perceptions, doesn’t it? How would you know firsthand what damage it might be doing to your brain? Perhaps you are willing to buy in to the idea that it is perfectly safe to smoke, with no negative side effects, because that is what you want to believe. Frankly, I think there is very little in life that doesn’t have negative side effects (unfortunately). Maybe you are a little close-minded on this subject?
It’s easy to buy into everything is a conspiracy and no one can be trusted once you know how often we are betrayed, swindled, and lied to. But not everything is lies.
I know how I felt when I smoked pot and I didn’t always like it. If others know of people that have had serious problems after using it, who are you to condemn them and say they are not telling the truth? How can you know for sure?

I think, Anorak’s articles are wonderful satire, the topics are great and for me it’s one of the very best sites on the net. But anorak.co.uk is also a marketing tool (is that the correct word?) for a professional Online PR agency, isn’t it?

Even when you think you know the whole of it, you only know the half of it. There are more lies and cover-up’s to be discovered. Where did you get your information concerning illegal drugs? If you can’t remember exactly where you got it then there is a good chance you have been programmed with lies. It is the same evil people that are responsible for 911 and 7/7 that are keeping it illegal. Society has been taught to hate people like me. Look at how i have been attacked today. Ask yourself why you doubted me in the first place when there was no need to. Peace.

headline:
“Madeleine McCann’s disappearance is ‘linked to a string of child abductions’”
within the story text:
“A police source said there had been several reports of attempted abductions in that area, including another attempt on Saturday, in the village of Vale do Tronco, but refused to reveal details of the latest attack.
He said: “For now it is not possible to state whether there is a connection between the cases.”
Police working on the nine-month Madeleine investigation are not involved in the Coimbra cases, but have been kept informed.
McCann spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “There is no suggestion of a direct connection but it shows that this sort of thing can occur in Portugal.”
well that’s all right then
what fun to see the comedian making an arse of himself

“Everything you listed is ‘alleged’ or ‘possible’ - none is based on proven facts!”
Oh, really?
So the British government did not send Clarence Mitchell to assist the McCanns as their spokesperson for a period of time while he was still on their payroll?
And Gordon Brown never called Gerry McCann and had a compassionate talk with him while Gerry was a passenger in a car off to somewhere?
And the rogatory letters were not returned to the PJ and instructed to be changed and sent through diplomatic channels rather than through Eurojust?
And the FSS test results did not go through the UK police department first?
***
I have read articles on all of the above, plus posts where people have received responses to correspondence to confirm the above. If I find some time, I will look up sources for those items on my original list that do not have allegedly somewhere in the sentence.
