Madeleine McCann: Scare Stories, Kate McCann’s Job And No Mari Luz
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS: “FIVE ATTEMPTED KIDNAPS LINK TO MADELEINE CASE”
“Detectives searching for Madeleine McCann are now investigating a spate of attempted child abductions across Portugal.
“At least five kidnap attempts have been reported in the past month, leading officers from the Madeleine team to examine the details for possible connections.”
What of the headline “link” to Madeleine McCann – well, the alleged attempted kidnappings all occurred in Portugal
But “Last week Justice Minister Alberto Costa revealed that the head detective, Paulo Rebelo, was coming to the end of his case”, says the WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER
Says Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns’ spokesman: “It’s alarming to hear that this sort of thing can happen, particularly in a country that is so aware of the potential for abduction”
DAILY MIRROR: “Maddy: 5 scares in Portugal”
Police searching for Madeleine McCann are also investigating five attempted child abductions in northern Portugal. They began when a nine-year-old girl was bundled into a car as she got off her school bus. Two more children were attacked last month and last Thursday two men tried to lure a girl of nine into a car. Last Saturday, another child escaped abduction. One police source said: “It is causing a lot of alarm.”
DAILY MAIL: “Madeleine McCann’s disappearance is ‘linked to a string of child abductions’”
Police investigating Madeleine McCann’s disappearance have been alerted over a spate of attempted child abductions in northern Portugal, it has been revealed. At least four children have been targeted in the last month in the region of Coimbra, where a nine-year-old girl escaped from an abductor in December.
It’s five children. The Express and Mirror both say its five
KATE McCANN: “Meanwhile, it is understood Kate McCann is quitting her job as a locum GP to devote her life to children’s charities. Mrs McCann has not returned to work since Madeleine’s disappearance in May and has reportedly told friends she feels she has a lot to offer charity organisations.
THE SCOTSMAN: “Torment of Madeleine’s family ‘is like being crucified’”
Kate McCann’s mother Susan Healey says: “It is almost like being crucified day to day. I read the most stupid things about Kate not crying enough or whatever”
Adding: “Kate and Gerry know they made a mistake and shouldn’t have left the children, they know that, but they certainly don’t deserve what has happened to them. If the Portuguese can’t find out what happened to Madeleine, we have to find out. There is no way Madeleine will fade into insignificance”
Gerry McCann is a “surgeon”
IRISH INDEPENDENT: “Missing Amy’s parents offer cash reward”
The parents of missing Irish expat Amy Fitzpatrick have offered a cash reward for information on her whereabouts. Franco Rey, spokesman for Amy’s Stepfather David Mahon and Amy’s mum Audrey, said: “A substantial reward is on offer to anyone who can provide reliable information on Amy’s whereabouts. Any information received will be treated within the strictest confidence.”
And:
Dubliner Mr Mahon (36) has also travelled to Tangiers in northern Morocco to investigate the possibility the teenager was snatched and taken to Africa.
Rewards have also been offered for missing Briton Madeleine McCann and missing Spanish girl Mari Luz Cortes. The family of five-year-old Mari Luz, snatched from her home in Huelva in south-west Spain on January 13, is offering €300,000 for information on her whereabouts. Rewards totalling £2.6m were offered within 10 days of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance on May 3 last year from the Algarve holiday resort of Praia da Luz.
TYPICALLY SPANISH: “parents of missing Mari Luz are against her image being used in a Madeleine McCann poster campaign”
Mari Luz’s father, Juan José Cortés, said after a meeting with Manuel Chaves, President of the Junta de Andalucía, this weekend, that, while he is not against collaborating in the search for Madeleine and ‘even helping to draw up a poster of all the missing youngsters,’ the lines of investigation into the disappearance of the two young girls are distinct, and are being carried out in two separate countries. EFE [Spanish news agency] said he is considering taking legal action for using his daughter’s image for the campaign.

She HAS NOT QUIT - its a lie and a blatent spin. She is a locum GP and remains on the GMC register. She is effectively an agency doctor - I doubt they agency have asked for her! Thats NOT the same as quitting.
Anyway, she should be in a cell, in my opinion.

Morning all.
Saw the Zeitgeist Movie.
I think there’s elements of truth (origin of Christianity, the Fed set up by private bankers e.t.c.), and there’s elements that exagerate the truth (US created crises to enter WWI, WWII, Vietnam), and then there’s outright fabulation (no legal reason to pay taxes, plan to have every one use electric tags in the future).
Sep 11th falls somewhere between the latter two … although I’m not sure where exactly…

Man On A Hill
You ask if I believe my husband. It isn’t a question of belief. But it is true I wish I could know more about the people who made the Zeitgeist, and what their intent was. My husband is of Eastern Europ origine, and he has no love for communism.
In the ideas of conspiracy from churches to turn people into slaves by obeying them, I think there is an erroneous idea, that a bunch of cynical people are telling an orchestrated lie to the rest of the world, who wouldn’t believe otherwise. Religious belief is ingrained in human beings. All human cultures produce some religious belief. It isn’t something unnatural. What I also think is that governments which have tried to force their people to get rid of religion are totalitarian, have to do it in a coercitive and bloody way, and that they fail (French revolution, Russian communism). I believe in a lay state, but I don’t believe a state should enforce atheism on his people. I am not a church goer, but I am not a hater of religion. In France, there is so little religion that people brought up without religious culture are attracted to sects, or to very strict obediences like the fanatic streak of Islam.

I dont know what papers the McCanns get, I’ve not seen any UK papers that do anything other than sanctify the bloody McCanns.
Kate McCann should get her boney arse over to Portugal and answer their questions. Cuddle-bloody-Cat was a ‘badge’ of caring and nothing more in my opinion - washed the bloody thing - I ask you, what more admission of guilt is required! Crucifiction is too good for them (Lucky lucky bastards).

No you have it wrong.
Kate and Gerry are innocent - they are doctors with ‘connections’.
Or maybe the providers of the week in PDL were protecting their interests? I wish we knew who paid for this week in PDL. Was it a drug company ‘perk’ as has been suggested?
Wouldnt it be embarrassing for them if it turned out that the Doctors were enjoying a holiday funded by a large multi-national drugs company?

Ian, for once in your life can you get it right? I am not attacking the poster, I think the comments on ticking Portugal off their holiday list are RIDICULOUS! You’ve obviously not paid much attention to my posts in the past either, since when I have said I believe there was an abductor? FFS read first before you jump on your little horse!

Didn’t want to post today - no time. However, to tell the truth, I continue to think it is extremely likely that Mari Luz’s disappearance has something to do with some kind of feud between gypsy clans. The family may well know this, the police have probably thought of it too. Posters would serve no purpose in this context and could make matters worse.
Apart from which, do people actually think that posters are of any use with such small children. If someone has them, they are hardly likely to walk down the street with them if their faces are on every lamp post and bus stop. They would simply become too hot to hold and that could be dangerous.

Children suffer at the hands of their parents usually. I’m no lover of Church (or state) but the bottom line is that parents are the ones who fail their children.
Without a doubt the McCanns failed their children and were lucky that they have their twins still (they might easily have had an ‘accident’ too).

“For too long children have been suffered at the hands of church and state”.
What has that got to do with the MC’s case? It sounds as if the MC’s case gave you an opportunity to shout your hatred of the Portuguese state and of the Catholic (I presume) church. I don’t think there are more children suffering in Portugal than in England. Among the suffering ones in Portugal in May were 3 little Brits left alone at night in a supposedly unlocked bedroom.

Ah! A proponent of the McCann school of parenting, stars for ‘not bothering’ the parents if the child wakes at night.

Do you really believe all this nonsense about abductors? Madeleine clearly as not abducted by a stranger - not a jot of evidence you see.

I rather regret telling you about Zeitgiest MOAH since you are ramming it down
everyone”s throat. Remember, these are only theories and as Saul said earlier,
Michael Moore”s film was based on facts. There is or was, a Sky 1 series on,
conspiracies and let”s not forget the “First Man on the Moon” one. If you did
start a thread, it would have to be dealt with in three parts as is the film.
Anyway, I agree with agw that Northern Rock is something that will affect us all. Future Government expenditure, a real danger of Worldwide recession etc,
so I”m off there to get my twopennorth in.!!!!!!!!

The blatant attempts at ruining Portuguese economy will not work, I hope, and I should think. Economy has its own laws. If the people who chose not to spend their holidays in Portugal think they are important enough to destroy the economy of the country, I think they have problems with the perception of their own self.
February 18th, 2008 at 11:12 am
Oh Julie … if I had a nice shiny little sticky star to put on your post for spelling I would. Pity you didnt score as well in common sense class.

There is currently some sort of media war being waged between the UK and Portugal. Do you know that all the wars you ever knew were started for reasons that you didn’t know. This war is no different. To take sides in this case i now believe is a dumb thing to do. Find the root cause and you will stop all wars, which is the destiny of the human race. Why prolong the inevitable?
