Madeleine McCann: Scare Stories, Kate McCann’s Job And No Mari Luz
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS: “FIVE ATTEMPTED KIDNAPS LINK TO MADELEINE CASE”
“Detectives searching for Madeleine McCann are now investigating a spate of attempted child abductions across Portugal.
“At least five kidnap attempts have been reported in the past month, leading officers from the Madeleine team to examine the details for possible connections.”
What of the headline “link” to Madeleine McCann – well, the alleged attempted kidnappings all occurred in Portugal
But “Last week Justice Minister Alberto Costa revealed that the head detective, Paulo Rebelo, was coming to the end of his case”, says the WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER
Says Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns’ spokesman: “It’s alarming to hear that this sort of thing can happen, particularly in a country that is so aware of the potential for abduction”
DAILY MIRROR: “Maddy: 5 scares in Portugal”
Police searching for Madeleine McCann are also investigating five attempted child abductions in northern Portugal. They began when a nine-year-old girl was bundled into a car as she got off her school bus. Two more children were attacked last month and last Thursday two men tried to lure a girl of nine into a car. Last Saturday, another child escaped abduction. One police source said: “It is causing a lot of alarm.”
DAILY MAIL: “Madeleine McCann’s disappearance is ‘linked to a string of child abductions’”
Police investigating Madeleine McCann’s disappearance have been alerted over a spate of attempted child abductions in northern Portugal, it has been revealed. At least four children have been targeted in the last month in the region of Coimbra, where a nine-year-old girl escaped from an abductor in December.
It’s five children. The Express and Mirror both say its five
KATE McCANN: “Meanwhile, it is understood Kate McCann is quitting her job as a locum GP to devote her life to children’s charities. Mrs McCann has not returned to work since Madeleine’s disappearance in May and has reportedly told friends she feels she has a lot to offer charity organisations.
THE SCOTSMAN: “Torment of Madeleine’s family ‘is like being crucified’”
Kate McCann’s mother Susan Healey says: “It is almost like being crucified day to day. I read the most stupid things about Kate not crying enough or whatever”
Adding: “Kate and Gerry know they made a mistake and shouldn’t have left the children, they know that, but they certainly don’t deserve what has happened to them. If the Portuguese can’t find out what happened to Madeleine, we have to find out. There is no way Madeleine will fade into insignificance”
Gerry McCann is a “surgeon”
IRISH INDEPENDENT: “Missing Amy’s parents offer cash reward”
The parents of missing Irish expat Amy Fitzpatrick have offered a cash reward for information on her whereabouts. Franco Rey, spokesman for Amy’s Stepfather David Mahon and Amy’s mum Audrey, said: “A substantial reward is on offer to anyone who can provide reliable information on Amy’s whereabouts. Any information received will be treated within the strictest confidence.”
And:
Dubliner Mr Mahon (36) has also travelled to Tangiers in northern Morocco to investigate the possibility the teenager was snatched and taken to Africa.
Rewards have also been offered for missing Briton Madeleine McCann and missing Spanish girl Mari Luz Cortes. The family of five-year-old Mari Luz, snatched from her home in Huelva in south-west Spain on January 13, is offering €300,000 for information on her whereabouts. Rewards totalling £2.6m were offered within 10 days of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance on May 3 last year from the Algarve holiday resort of Praia da Luz.
TYPICALLY SPANISH: “parents of missing Mari Luz are against her image being used in a Madeleine McCann poster campaign”
Mari Luz’s father, Juan José Cortés, said after a meeting with Manuel Chaves, President of the Junta de Andalucía, this weekend, that, while he is not against collaborating in the search for Madeleine and ‘even helping to draw up a poster of all the missing youngsters,’ the lines of investigation into the disappearance of the two young girls are distinct, and are being carried out in two separate countries. EFE [Spanish news agency] said he is considering taking legal action for using his daughter’s image for the campaign.

I am just catching up with posts. Thank you for putting the copy of Coldwater’s post. I hope he is right.
I also hope there is no way for the witnesses to know what evidence the PJ have until the interviews. (If they are innocent it should not be a problem for them).

It is a good site indeed.

What further proof do you need that you are being manipulated.

Again, you are distorting what people say. Nobody ever told you what you could or couldn’t talk about.
You were merely asked to display a level of courtesy to people posing alternative viewpoints, and to allow discussion of these without dropping in your inane “child neglect supporter” allegation.
Very few people (if any) have denied that the McCanns neglected their children, and nobody has supported that action. However, being guilty of this one thing does not automatically make them guilty of the bigger crime here, as you constantly claim.
It is perfectly consistent to consider theories other than Madeleine’s death being the fault of the McCanns (either through accidental or deliberate action), while still condemning them for neglect.
You will not allow such discussion without butting in like a childish bully.
I personally believe that the McCanns are guilty of more than neglect, but I am interested in hearing others’ viewpoints, even if they don’t agree with yours, so please show a little respect to other posters.

Powerful people are getting most of the resources on the planet - but they don’t control it.
The idea that there would be only a small number of people capable of leadership and that they would all agree is daft.
There’s a lot of intrigue and Omerta but usually someone snitches - and nothing major stays secret forever.

“the McCanns are not telling it as it was”
Guess I must be dumb then, that’s what I though Anti meant. Doh!
February 18th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
My point was, its healthier to be ‘anti’ than ‘pro’ (Im neither actually, but logic tells me that the McCanns are not telling it as it was).

Just so we are clear, I am anti, (sorry Garth and co) I might be completely wrong. If so, I am big enough to admit it and apologise.
I don’t really understand your post Ian. Unfortunatly I had to leave school at 13 (mum was ill) and I am not entirely sure what you are trying to say.

I don’t think the story is going to end in triumph. Unless the McCanns only care about being found not guilty.
Even if they get Madeleine back alive - how are they going to explain to her that they thought Tapas and easy access to the apartment was more important than her safety?

Sorry, only just read your post. I had heard about Bush allowing 911 to happen but i never realised that they imploded the twin towers! And as for 7/7 i joked as i always did about it being the work of mi6. But I’m not laughing now susannah. I had also previously considered that the Jesus story was a form of social conditioning but i never knew it was an old story that had been used before. What got me so excited is that zeitgeist puts everything that i had been thinking about over the years into perspective. ” If the truth can be told to be understood then it will be believed” T McKenna. I think this could be the time for humanity to free itself of it’s oppressive parasites and the internet is doing that just like Leary predicted in his later work on cyber-culture. I will look at the website you suggested, thanks.

Saul 186.
Prison Planet is just another wind up money making site.
Unfortunately this statement is not true. Why is it so hard to believe that a group of powerful people are controlling all the resources of the planet.
As there is no difference between the markets and the currencies, even the nationalities, the players, the leaders are playing a game that is quite transparent if you are just willing to look at it and tie in the edges.

Just what is the appeal of the McCann story?
The obvious elements are there - the sheer horror of the crime if it is that. Abducting a beautiful three-year-old from her bed.
Her parents, Kate, and Gerry too, play their part in the ’soap’ in that they are upper middle class and attractive.
The McCanns are the first private individuals (or suspects according to your view) to have their own ’spin doctor’ figure to sell their story.
He is Clarence Mitchell, a former BBC Royal Correspondent has worked nearly full time for them for nine months. He resigned a well paid UK Government post to do so. His job he says is to ‘help’ them and be a ‘buffer’ to the media for them. It is a highly controversial role.
In the last three months, I have produced two public events with Clarence. They were packed out - more than 200 at each. There was much heat and some light generated at them, much of it about his role. Clarence held his own. Usually.
The McCann story is a morality tale for our times.
Some have taken against Kate and Gerry simply because they feel they ‘abandoned’ their daughter (and her siblings) for a night of fun with friends. Others simply dislike them because of their class. Others for manipulating the media in their favour through Clarence and cleverness.
The McCanns and Clarence have proved masters at turning the story when needs arise.
‘The McCanns; Guilty or Innocent?’ is a ‘debate’ fanned by the internet. One squeak in Praya de Luz becomes a shout in London in minutes.
‘Stories’ in Portugal’ become ‘fact’ in Britain then go back to Portugal to be embellished even more The printed media have proved adept at recyling.
As Mitchell bitterly puts it “If there were green awards for recycling it should go to the British and Portuguese press”.
It’s not just the professionals. Everybody has a view on the McCanns. Blogs following the Media Society Clarence event at the LSE last month attracted hundreds of postings - most of them lacking in any rhyme or reason. If you want to see raw bile look up the3arguidos.net. It does not make for pleasant reading.
This particular soap opera will have an end in tragedy or in triumph. Then it will be ripe for the historical documentaries to be made and for the media - print and broadcast - to audit itself. That should be fascinating.
Forget ‘Neighbours’ and Channel Five tune into “The McCanns - an everyday story of not so ordinary Leicestershire folk. Playing on a screen or a newspaper very near you”.

To my mind - even if it turns out that the McCanns are innocent and it was an abductor - the fact that they’ve lied to make themselves look like better parents (hindering the investigation and making themselves look suspicious) is enough to make me dislike them.
They put their reputations before their child - and that’s wrong.

You’re bonkers. It’s so much better here than the UK.

I have searched and searched Portuguese sites and there is not one word of kids being kidnapped and the idiotic British media reports these alleged kidnapping attempts occurred in Northern Portugal. Coimbra and surrounding areas are in the Center.
Not one of the Brit rags mentioned a Portuguese paper, online or off, as verification of their claims.

Damn. I should have known.
No. It’s not a HDO. I try to be at Mass every day if I can (which due to alcohol and my laziness works out at once or twice every other week as well as the Sunday - which I can’t miss or I’d have to confess it and that’s embarrassing).
