Police searching for Madeleine McCann are also investigating five attempted child abductions in northern Portugal. They began when a nine-year-old girl was bundled into a car as she got off her school bus. Two more children were attacked last month and last Thursday two men tried to lure a girl of nine into a car. Last Saturday, another child escaped abduction. One police source said: “It is causing a lot of alarm.”

IRISH INDEPENDENT: “Missing Amy’s parents offer cash reward”
The parents of missing Irish expat Amy Fitzpatrick have offered a cash reward for information on her whereabouts. Franco Rey, spokesman for Amy’s Stepfather David Mahon and Amy’s mum Audrey, said: “A substantial reward is on offer to anyone who can provide reliable information on Amy’s whereabouts. Any information received will be treated within the strictest confidence.”

Rewards have also been offered for missing Briton Madeleine McCann and missing Spanish girl Mari Luz Cortes. Rewards totalling £2.6m were offered within 10 days of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance on May 3 last year from the Algarve holiday resort of Praia da Luz.

Mari Luz’s father, Juan José Cortés, said after a meeting with Manuel Chaves, President of the Junta de Andalucía, this weekend, that, while he is not against collaborating in the search for Madeleine and ‘even helping to draw up a poster of all the missing youngsters,’ the lines of investigation into the disappearance of the two young girls are distinct, and are being carried out in two separate countries. EFE [Spanish news agency] said he is considering taking legal action for using his daughter’s image for the campaign.

The Black Death killed a third of Europe - no conspiracy theory was necessary - it was just nature. That was my point.
But there’s no point arguing with you - you’re clearly a crazy person.
It’s a shame that you can’t engage with politics in a real way rather than hiding behind fantasies.
I’ve helped canvass for elections since I was 4 and it’s irritating how many people moan, but how few of them get off their arse and do something constructive.

You are so right. I’m afraid it is Ian’s constant “inane ‘child neglect supporter’ allegation” and his constant “butting in like a childish bully” which give such a tedious and puerile feel to the site.
Unlike you, I still tend to believe that it is unlikely (certainly not proved in any way) that the McCanns are guilty of direct involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance, but I am very interested in hearing the serious views of those who think otherwise. Debate is healthy. Insulting those with different views is not.
I have never been 100% certain of my own position. We know so little. How can anyone be certain? The PJ don’t appear to be certain enough to arrest and press charges. In fact, we’ve heard very different views recently, and from the top, to the effect that they were “hasty” in making the McCanns arguidos. This may change, of course.
What I AM 100% certain of is that I do not support child neglect. No criticism of people with an impossibly difficult job but I have never quite understood why M and A continue to allow Ian to peddle the ridiculous and offensive view that those who believe the McCanns may be innocent of the serious crime of killing their child and/or covering up her accidental death, are all stupid and/or supporters of child neglect.
I presume Ian does this only in order to try to bore or irritate people away from the site. I don’t believe he is so stupid as to actually believe his own accusations in this respect.

330 MOAH - can’t resist an argument when it comes to 911, unfortunately. I have read extensively on it, watched all the documentaries, followed the websites, etc.
There are parallels with the Madeleine case in that the official line is totally unbelievable, an obvious outright lie, but many of the “conspiracy” theories put forward are every bit as ludicrous, if I can plagiarise Clarrie.

I’ve done a lot of reading - politics is part of my degree. I also like conspiracy theories because they’re fun.
But there is no logical reason why the US government would attack the twin towers.
I know a lot of these conspiracy theory films and books are slick - but none of it’s true. Christ, the Daily Mail serialised one of them, that does not make it credible.

328 Karen, go and do some reading on WTC7 before answering glibly like this. WTC7 was not hit by any airliner, had only small manageable fires, and was rigged with explosives to enable it to be “pulled”, as the owner himself admits.

Cos, it’s not worth a government’s while to kill 3000 or so of their own citizens just to wage war on the Middle-East when some other excuse would be easier.

If 911 wasn’t a true “inside job” it was at least allowed to happen with the full knowledge of the governments of USA, Israel, and certain others. As with the Madeleine case, there is just too much there for it to be as simple as the authorities claim it to be.
If you want a real conspiracy theory, take a look at the 911 Commission Report (which incidentally doesn’t even mention WTC7)

Re the wearing (or not) of watches.
I can believe that even if they wore them they might not do checks at particular times but rather when they just thought they were due. That makes more sense to me as I don’t think on holiday you would be clock watching.
However….what I really cannot understand is how they could come up with such exacting timelines after the event!

I know that the people who govern us are often telling lies. I also know there is a lot of bribery and lobbying going on from business.I don’t believe in a number of official truths.
On the other hand, making people believe that democracy is rotten to the core can also be some manipulation, aimed to create a nihilist movement aimed at making people reject democracy.
If you watch the political parties, some are very good at telling you that all political men are rotten. Those parties are sure to make a big success with the most vulnerable part of the population who will vote for the extremes.
Some economists are realising and saying how international finance is preventing the governments from governing. But not all our political people are ready to submit. And some are trying to think of some ways to lock the process. Scary tales could weaken democracy when it needs to be strengthened.

It is “surprising and shameful that Mari Luz’s father presents complaints about us in a press release”. This was the reaction of Clarence Mitchell, spokesman for the McCanns when he was informed by the 24 Horas that the father of Juan Cortés does not authorise the distribution of the 18 thousand posters with the images of Maddie and the Spanish girl in Spain and Portugal.
“We regret the confusion. We only wanted to help Mari Luz’s family and honestly we thought we had permission from the girl’s father to this joint campaign”, said Clarence Mitchell. The problem is that the 18 thousand posters were already sent by post, last Thursday to Spain. “Our only hope is that the owners of schools, restaurants and other public places are aware of the reaction of Mr. Juan Cortés and do not display the posters”, said the spokesman of Kate and Gerry McCann.
“As I explained to you newspaper last Saturday, we did believe to have the permission of the Cortés family. Few days after the disappearance of Mari Luz, a Kate’s friend that speaks Spanish contacted the father of the Spanish girl and told him about the intention of the McCanns in printing a poster of both children. At that time Mari Luz’s father said he would appreciate everything that the McCanns could do”.
