Madeleine McCann: Scare Stories, Kate McCann’s Job And No Mari Luz
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS: “FIVE ATTEMPTED KIDNAPS LINK TO MADELEINE CASE”
“Detectives searching for Madeleine McCann are now investigating a spate of attempted child abductions across Portugal.
“At least five kidnap attempts have been reported in the past month, leading officers from the Madeleine team to examine the details for possible connections.”
What of the headline “link” to Madeleine McCann – well, the alleged attempted kidnappings all occurred in Portugal
But “Last week Justice Minister Alberto Costa revealed that the head detective, Paulo Rebelo, was coming to the end of his case”, says the WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER
Says Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns’ spokesman: “It’s alarming to hear that this sort of thing can happen, particularly in a country that is so aware of the potential for abduction”
DAILY MIRROR: “Maddy: 5 scares in Portugal”
Police searching for Madeleine McCann are also investigating five attempted child abductions in northern Portugal. They began when a nine-year-old girl was bundled into a car as she got off her school bus. Two more children were attacked last month and last Thursday two men tried to lure a girl of nine into a car. Last Saturday, another child escaped abduction. One police source said: “It is causing a lot of alarm.”
DAILY MAIL: “Madeleine McCann’s disappearance is ‘linked to a string of child abductions’”
Police investigating Madeleine McCann’s disappearance have been alerted over a spate of attempted child abductions in northern Portugal, it has been revealed. At least four children have been targeted in the last month in the region of Coimbra, where a nine-year-old girl escaped from an abductor in December.
It’s five children. The Express and Mirror both say its five
KATE McCANN: “Meanwhile, it is understood Kate McCann is quitting her job as a locum GP to devote her life to children’s charities. Mrs McCann has not returned to work since Madeleine’s disappearance in May and has reportedly told friends she feels she has a lot to offer charity organisations.
THE SCOTSMAN: “Torment of Madeleine’s family ‘is like being crucified’”
Kate McCann’s mother Susan Healey says: “It is almost like being crucified day to day. I read the most stupid things about Kate not crying enough or whatever”
Adding: “Kate and Gerry know they made a mistake and shouldn’t have left the children, they know that, but they certainly don’t deserve what has happened to them. If the Portuguese can’t find out what happened to Madeleine, we have to find out. There is no way Madeleine will fade into insignificance”
Gerry McCann is a “surgeon”
IRISH INDEPENDENT: “Missing Amy’s parents offer cash reward”
The parents of missing Irish expat Amy Fitzpatrick have offered a cash reward for information on her whereabouts. Franco Rey, spokesman for Amy’s Stepfather David Mahon and Amy’s mum Audrey, said: “A substantial reward is on offer to anyone who can provide reliable information on Amy’s whereabouts. Any information received will be treated within the strictest confidence.”
And:
Dubliner Mr Mahon (36) has also travelled to Tangiers in northern Morocco to investigate the possibility the teenager was snatched and taken to Africa.
Rewards have also been offered for missing Briton Madeleine McCann and missing Spanish girl Mari Luz Cortes. The family of five-year-old Mari Luz, snatched from her home in Huelva in south-west Spain on January 13, is offering €300,000 for information on her whereabouts. Rewards totalling £2.6m were offered within 10 days of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance on May 3 last year from the Algarve holiday resort of Praia da Luz.
TYPICALLY SPANISH: “parents of missing Mari Luz are against her image being used in a Madeleine McCann poster campaign”
Mari Luz’s father, Juan José Cortés, said after a meeting with Manuel Chaves, President of the Junta de Andalucía, this weekend, that, while he is not against collaborating in the search for Madeleine and ‘even helping to draw up a poster of all the missing youngsters,’ the lines of investigation into the disappearance of the two young girls are distinct, and are being carried out in two separate countries. EFE [Spanish news agency] said he is considering taking legal action for using his daughter’s image for the campaign.

How easy it is for you shift from the mythical profound to the obvious modern day spouttings….bipolar?
It’s a funny thing blogging isn’t it? For example someone who can start off sounding as if English is their second language has incredibly lucid english language moments.
Anyone else noticed anything?
I’m not hanging around for this. Just got back from big uncomfortable bed shift holiday.
Oh, are we now to think that there are three people who stayed/visited apt 5, that are non-traceable?

Madeleine: Pictured in handcuffs, the McCann detective once held over phone tapping
By Daniel Boffey
Last Updated at 18:16pm on 25th November 2007
The private detectives hunting for Madeleine McCann were once arrested in a phone-tapping scandal linked to leading politicians and businessmen.
Five senior members of the family-run firm Metodo 3 – including director-general Francisco Marco, who is liaising with Kate and Gerry McCann – were held amid claims of industrial and political espionage.
Mr Marco’s mother, Maria Fernandez Lado, 57, who founded the agency 23 years ago, was pictured in handcuffs after being arrested as she handed a client a cassette allegedly containing a phone-tapped conversation.
In a raid on Metodo 3’s Barcelona offices, police seized handguns, ammunition, listening equipment, cassettes and transcripts of taped phone calls. But the 1995 case was dropped by a judge after defence lawyers levelled accusations of police entrapment.
However, The Mail on Sunday’s findings – including transcripts of conversations in which Mr Marco’s mother allegedly offers a tapping service – will bring into question the suitability of the firm in running the McCanns’ investigation.
It is not known if the McCanns are aware of Metodo 3’s past. But a fellow private investigator said last night: ‘They have portrayed themselves as the best investigators in the world. The truth is they are nothing of the sort. Their murky background is riddled with controversy.’
Metodo 3 hit the headlines three weeks ago after lawyer Mr Marco boasted that he would find Madeleine, below, in months.
He said his agency was ‘100 per cent sure’ Madeleine was alive and ‘not maybe…but very close’ to finding the four-year-old’s abductor.
It was reported that the firm has up to 40 detectives on the case. However, company accounts reveal a section of Metodo 3 made a net loss of £61,500 in 2005 and had a full-time staff of just 12. They claim they now have 27.
The McCanns commissioned Metodo 3 on a six-month contract as Portuguese police targeted them over their daughter’s disappearance and appeared to lose interest in finding her alive.
Gerry McCann has privately voiced his trust in Metodo 3, which was hired by the couple’s multi-millionaire-backer, Brian Kennedy, a double glazing tycoon. Yet in a police investigation Mr Marco’s mother, known as Marita, was arrested as she handed over a recording of a tapped phone call.
She was also taped in an undercover sting allegedly claiming: ‘I did tapping… fundamentally for people I had known for a long time.’ Also held were her husband Francisco Marco Poyuelo, 60, Francisco Marco, 35, his brother Francisco Gabriel Fernandez Lado, 36, and employee Oscar Trujillo, 40. The detainees were held in custody for 48 hours but were never charged after an investigating judge threw the case out.
Detectives had persuaded a businessman to meet Marita posing as a client. It was a clear-cut case of police entrapment.
However, a police report and a transcript of a conversation claims Marita allegedly offered to illegally tap phones for £15,000 to £21,000. In the police transcript Marita allegedly told the ‘client’: ‘Phone tapping…It’s very dangerous at the moment. It’s very dangerous, very dangerous. But not dangerous for me!’
Police had launched the operation after Spanish phone giant Telefonica suspected an employee was involved in illegal tapping and industrial espionage.
Officers monitored worker Sergio Sancelestino’s phone calls and discovered he had close links to Metodo 3. A police report stated: ‘It was established that Sergio Sancelestino maintained frequent contact with the management of the Metodo 3 detective agency, and that they could be carrying out illegal phone-tapping, obtaining large financial rewards for those jobs.’
Undercover police claim they watched as Metodo 3 and three Telefonica employees tapped a telephone.
Police swooped as Marita handed over a tape, then raided six other addresses. But four months later the case was ‘archived’ and the judge said there was no evidence Metodo 3 had been involved in phone tapping or profited from it.
Francisco Marco yesterday claimed that the allegations made against his company had been provoked by their own investigation into state corruption. He said: ‘The judge said it was all made up by the police.’ He added his firm was very healthy.
The McCanns’ spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, said the agency retained their confidence and was not acting illegally for them. Meanwhile, it was reported in Portugal that police had looked at whether the McCanns had ’sold’ Madeleine.
The theory was later dismissed.

Now how can you say you’re being manipulated?
You make a statement. Someone else asks for a source, I think it’s common decency to provide it. Like if people ask me for a source I provide it too.
It’s called being polite and showing respect for eachother.

As its quiet, Fair talked in post 325 about the watches/clock watching and was wondering how they could come up with such exact timelines after the event.
I’ve got this little ‘trick’ I use when I have to recall when something happened. Like I know for instance when Lady Diana died [and where] because it was mrT’s xxxxth birthday and we were in Paris etc. etc.
Do you use tricks like that too, Fair?

Cheryl,
Sorry I didn’t mention your name as I do like your posts too.
What you said “The people trusted Bush and he took over BUT with his own private agenda to give us the revenge we sought.” I agree 103% !
Re the catching the “terrorist by the shoes” we were in Dallas when that happened. Just arrived in fact. But he got caught didn’t he? And on the plane. I knew it was a silly example. Okay, let me try this one: if we now go over to the States, they want to know our creditcard number[s] and they are going to check our expenses we paid with these cards. I know it could lead to a terrorist, however many more innocent people’s privacy is at stake too. They use the fear they’ve created to control things, earn lots of money’[weapon industry] and Big Brother really is watching you. I don’t mind, I don’t have anything to hide, nevertheless, who’s watching the guards?

Hi everyone
Just received an e-mail from a friend advising of a computer virus going around.
Apparently, it has been confirmed by “Snopes” and Norton AntiVirus is gearing up. I tried to cut and paste the e-mail, but Babylon kept coming up, so I”ll be brief.
The virus is transmitted by someone who has your e-mail address, so immediately advise all your contacts.
Do not open any attachment entitled “Postcard”
It is a virus that opens a Postcard image which burns the whole hard disc C on your computer.
I don”t understand the technical jargon, but thought you should know.

I like your posts too. As well as Fairs and Maria’s [whom I’ve missed again] and many many more. That’s what keeps me here.
Re conspiracies: I do believe in conspiracies of the government. I do believe 9/11 [or 11/9] could be part of a conspiracy. Never trusted it. Bush was still fighting Gore over presidency [remember Floriday, where brother dear is governeur?]. After 9/11 the fight suddenly was over, everybody was supporting ‘their’ president. And look what it’s done to freedom? Normal passengers even have to put of their shoes to be checked, while I’m sure they’ve never found a terrorist by that decree. [silly example I know, but easy to translate ]
___________
Totje, I noted your comment re conspiracy re 9/11. People look for conspiracies in every major or small negative action that takes place in this world. Some of it is valid and some pure fiction or BS, however one wants to describe it. We know and knew how dangerous BL is and was and knew beyond a doubt he would strike us big time. An acquaintance of mine from the FBI was telling me after the attack that a lecture they had attended two weeks prior to the attack the lecturer said point blank we are getting hit soon. All the signs were there, look the lower level FBI employee reported his findings about the terrorists taking flying lessons but it was disregarded! So, in this country’s misguided beliefs that we were above such an attack and thus not prepared for such an attack, we lost 3,000 people! Yes, the rage and grief was all consumming - as well it should have been. The people trusted Bush and he took over BUT with his own private agenda to give us the revenge we sought. When one seeks revenge it often comes back on them - well look at the losses of our soliders - near 4,000 right now and ongoing. By the way, as for your comment re never found a terrorist by the shoes - don’t you recall some years ago the passenger on a plane - was it from France (not sure of country) - had explosives in his shoes that would have blown up the plane in mid-air. Why now shoes are checked as part of security. Look at what would have been a catastrophic tragedy that could have taken place re the planes heading to the US from the UK the other year…
