YOUNGSTERS TARGETED BY KIDNAPPERS

10:30 - 20 February 2008
Police fear a kidnap gang has made three new bids to snatch youngsters in Portugal, according to reports.
At least four children have been targeted in the last month in the region of Coimbra, where a nine-year-old girl escaped from an abductor in December.
Portuguese police are investigating whether the cases are connected.
Reports say they are also looking whether they could be related to where Madeleine McCann’s disappearance from Praia da Luz, some 300 miles away in the Algarve, last May.
In the first reported attempted abduction, in December last year, a man bundled a nine-year-old girl into his car as she walked home from her school bus stop in the village of Charneca, near Coimbra.
Since then, there have been three other incidents and police are investigating a possible link.
The McCann family’s spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, said: “There is no suggestion of a direct connection but it shows that this sort of thing can occur in Portugal.
“We would hope the Portuguese police are investigating this as thoroughly as we hope they still are in the search for Madeleine.”

The Belfast Telegraph tucks the story away on an inside page, and devotes its biggest headline to a very different story.
It reports that Madeleine McCann’s parents won’t be returning to Donegal, where they have spent a holiday each year, because it would bring back too many painful memories of their missing daughter.
Gerry McCann was born in the village of St Johnston, but his mother tells the paper that they won’t be back this Easter, because the last time they visited was only a few weeks before Madeleine disappeared. The paper has a picture taken during that trip.

gillyflower, Whatever the rights or wrongs, the prosecutor had them in the palm of his hand and he would not back his officers up, he let them slip from his grasp, because there was not enough evidence, or because of some other reason, that came from higher up. Whatever is happening it is not a lot, and none of it to the benefit of solving the riddle of Madeleine, if indeed it is a riddle, and not something more than we could ever imagine.

Gillyflower, I am not concerned with what anyone else said unless it comes verbatim from the authorities, and I am certainly not conceited enough to even dream of explaining some one else’s comments, you can ask them yourself. My own view is clear, if there was any evidence they would be the subject of an arrest warrant, they are not and there is not, just as there are no rogatory letters. If I am wrong Iwill hold my hands up, but the percentages don’t favour that, nor does the lack of concrete evidence.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gandolf,
There were rogatory letters - returned to the PJ earlier in the year as documented in the popular press.
The lack of concrete evidence is only, I fear, the poor mite’s body. The PJ have in their possession dna relating to Madeleine, found, as I understand it, in the apartment, the car and the towel.
They also have the sniffer dogs, who indicated the presence of death, particularly on Kate, who was forced to say she had been in contact with 6 dead bodies prior to her holiday.
Your own view is quite clear in this case, and as I have said before, many times, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Therefore, in my opinion, the employment of Metodo 3 - who have no experience in this type of case - has been a total waste of time and money, and has only served to inflame further the Portugese people, who have been pilloried in the press and the PJ, who have been shamefully treated.
Why did they not employ PI’s who were experienced in child kidnapping cases if they did not trust the PJ ?
I am still of the opinion that they must be brought to account for their child’s disappearance, if only for their neglect of all 3 children on the night in question.
IMO
Morning all
Gandolf
In my small eyes the evidence is the mccanns know something.If they know they must come forward.They must.
Verbatim from the authorities???Here you shock me.You saying this?Do you really believe in “authorities”?
Which authorities?PJ or UK?
You know that we will be told -whatever the official source- only what “they” want us to believe.
I’m sorry I’ve missed that because of Orange. I’ve been up until 3 am this morning trying to fix my connection [thought something was wrong with my computer/windows/the wireless router/the Orange modem] and suddenly, like a flash of lightning, it occurred to me that may be Orange was down…
It appeared they were working on the lines so I resurrected.
