We havent heard any reports that suggest Kate said anything other than they’ve taken her or words to that effect. So assuming it to be correct you draw your conclusions as to why she would say that which I think I’ve been over gawd knows how many times.
Do I believe it? I’m sure its something along those lines but word for word? I dont know do I? Do you?

The important point here is that to listen outside the patio doors he would have to make a very definate diversion. Would he do that on the way to get Tanner? I think not, he has been sent on a mission and a child is sick.
So did he then come back with Tanner and divert through the gate up the stairs to listen at the McCanns patio door? We dont have enough here, but it seems likely that he’d listen at the locked door, the door on the side which is en-route to Tanners. The door on the side with the allegedly open window and lifted shutter.
Hmmmm.

Nah, don’t give me that “who knows” (= who cares) nonsense. You’ve thought carefully about the ” They’ve taken her” qoutes. If true, hugely suspiscious. If from credible on oath witnesses, way more important than any forensics

Husband’s home and wanting dinner and a cleaner home! I’ve been very clearly instructed to please get off the computer. I’m afraid my Anorak addiction has gotten the better of me today.
Will check in tomorrow to see what’s unfolded her.

Of course!
So O’Brien sends Oldfield to get Tanner (not good with the mobiles are they!) and remains in the apartment witht he sick child. So its not him but Oldfield. So whats he doing coming back with Tanner? Did he really divert throught he gate, up the stairs, to listen at the patio doors to someone elses kid?
Why didnt Gerry and Kate get concerned (one sick child might mean their own too, I’d definately have felt a little uncomfortable and gone to check my own)
Or did they ask Oldfield to go back and check their kids (bloody cheek, doesnt seem likely does it).
I didnt really concern myself with the listen at the door thing before. Looks like its a little goldmine!

I know it’s late and some of us are tired and in a hurry, but I think it says that Matthew Oldfield returned to get Jane Tanner and stopped by the McCann apartment and listened OUTSIDE the apartment (it says he did not enter the apartment). Russell O’Brien (Jane’s partner) must have stayed in the apartment with their sick daughter while Oldfield alerted Jane that her daughter was sick.

Why do think they might be worriers ? Do you you know them personally ?
Medics I’ve known almost go out of their way not to be seen to be over worried by dangers.Very practical people. The sort who who are presumably trained to calmly come up with pragmatic solutions to big problems

No I dont know them personally but going on Kates initial reactions to her missing daughter I would say she most definately is worrier/panicker.

“Her daughter fine, Jane returned to the table. At 9.30, Kate got up to make the next check on her children, but Matt Oldfield was checking too, as was Russell O’Brien, and Matt offered to do Kate’s check for her, which she accepted. Gerry teased that she would not be excused her turn at the next check.
In the McCanns’ apartment, Oldfield noticed the children’s bedroom door was again open, but that meant nothing to him, so he merely observed all was quiet and made a cursory glance inside the room, seeing the twins in their cots but, agonisingly, not directly seeing Madeleine’s bed from the angle at which he stood. Afterwards, he could not say for sure if she had been there or not. Nor could he say if the window and shutter had been open.”

I just reread the excerpt I pasted on post 1964 and realized I had also found the answer that Oldfield did not enter the apartment, but only listened at the door.

So we dont know which door.
Having said that, if he was rushing back to check his own sick daughter at the behest of Tanner, surely he wouldnt have gone through the gate, up the steps through the patio doors to check someone elses kid?
So does that mean it was the locked door? Would he really have even bothered?
Now thats suspicious. Garth? Comment?

See my post 1964
Doesn’t that report sound like O’Brien stayed in the apartment with the sick child and sent Oldfield back to the Tapas restaurant to get his partner Tanner?
Do you have another article that outlines a different version for O’Brien’s whereabouts and states he returned to the restaurant before Jane Tanner came to relieve him of caring for their daughter?

I often think of the darkness that may surround Madeleine, and I realise how very lucky I am, my problems are but spit in the ocean compared to Madeleines ordeal. This one is for you Madeleine.

Good points.
I too tend to think that they are responsible for the accidental death of Madeleine. We will not know until the PJ make their move. Perhaps - if they do not make a move and simply shelve the case - we will never know.
Hence my preference for not pursuing the issues for which we do not have direct view of evidence - negligence and failure of duty of care (there is a legal charge there - but in civil law).

1948 Grand Finale
Here’s an excerpt from a news article:
QUOTE
Jane arrived at her apartment, checked on her daughter and then returned to the tapas bar. Soon after, Jane says that another friend Matthew Oldfield, 37, and her partner Russell headed off to make their checks on the kids. But Jane’s daughter had become ill and Matthew came back to fetch her.
On his way back - between 9.30pm and 9.45pm - he stopped and listened at the door of the McCanns’ apartment but did not enter.
“Jane finished her meal and went up to the apartment straight away to see her daughter,” the friend said. “Around 10 or 15 minutes later, Kate discovered that Madeleine was gone.
“Jane heard shouting outside and came out and saw Matthew’s wife Rachel, who told her Maddie was missing.
“The first thing that came into Jane’s head was this person she’d seen. She felt complete horror. Kate was screaming ‘She’s gone, she’s gone’ and there was a huge panic.”
