Juan Jose Cortes, father of the missing girl, says: “Why didn’t they ask us? The three cases are not connected. We are with our lawyers.”
McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell says: “We did have permission from the family”

) have got it wrong time after time after time…. funny how the they change their methods to suit bloggers imo. eg description of maddie on web site, gerry’s blogs, drs mcc not doing interveiws etc etc etc.. nothing is working.

Mike SA - i ubderstand what you are saying but don’t actually think a lie detector test (or anything else- including going back to pdl and answering questions) will make a difference to how the mcc’s are perceived at this point…

I wasn’t intimating that it would make a difference now.
I was suggesting that it would in fact have been an ideal PR tool at the time, and for me, the fact that they chose to not do the test, after originally claiming that they would (when there was no actual test on offer), reflects badly on them.
It is one of many, many things that imo reflect badly on them.
This speculation is more about what one might percieve as the tipping point between, “gee, what rotten luck, all those coincidences really look bad”, to “come on, it’s a little hard to believe ALL that is just pure coincidence”.
As far as I’m concerned, if I were a pro, that’s where I would be making my case.
As far as the lie detector tests go, I was trying to think of an analogy to explain how I see it.
Say I had a 20litre bucket of paint to paint my house.
Let’s also say I had heard of a story where someone had drowned someone else in a similar 20litre bucket of paint.
I think that if I tried to tell my wife that I didn’t want to paint the house because buckets of paint were evil because someone had once used one to drown a person, I think she’d tell me I was just lazy and making ridiculous excuses.

Seriously , if Oldfield is posting on here, then this may put a different complexion on things,
maybe our comments, speculation and observations have led him to look more closely at the obvious flaws in the story and think very carefully on his involvement.
Good on him if he’s decided to spill the beans and tell the truth I say

That is very interesting about Oldfield posting here, if true, particularly in light of the recent information (not substantiated by any press report, I believe) posted here that Mr. Oldfield may have returned to Portugal to talk with the PJ.
Could it be that conversations here led him to consider doing so? Perhaps he learned some things or saw events in a new perspective after reading all the theories and questions on the forum.
