Gail Sherridan Charged With Lying Under Oath
GAIL Sheridan:
The wife of Tommy Sheridan has been charged with lying under oath during the socialist politician’s high-profile libel trial against the News of the World.
Gail Sheridan, 44, whose testimony formed a central part of her husband’s case during a 23-day trial in 2006, was charged with perjury after six hours’ questioning by detectives. Her father, Gus Healy, 71, who also testified at the trial, was also charged.
The move comes two months after officers charged Mr Sheridan with perjury…
Within the past 10 days three more of Mr Sheridan’s colleagues - including a former MSP - have also been charged. Rosemary Byrne, 59, who lost her seat in the Scottish Parliament last year, Graeme McIver, 39, and Jock Penman, 58, were charged with perjury after voluntarily reporting to police for questioning.
All three testified on Mr Sheridan’s behalf and are now members of his newly formed Solidarity party.
Finally:
In a statement today, the party repeated its claim that Mr Sheridan and his colleagues were the victims of a “political witch-hunt”. A spokesman said: “The only crime that Tommy Sheridan is guilty of is the crime of speaking truth to power.”
Is that the sound of laughter from the NOTW offices?

I fully agree with the last post, there was a lot more evidence against BLiar et al in the cash for honors case…..no action ….lies over weapons of mass destruction…no action…only a dead weapons expert…lies, lies lies.
This is a joke, it seriously undermines trial by jury, the jury should decide…in fact they did already…or so they thought.
Something is very peculiar about this.

Nothing will come of this and it is just the police trying to put pressure on them. The charges will likely not end up in court and if they do will probably not succeed.
Sheridan won his case because he proved in front of the jury that the paper had defamed him.
The paper published two stories that were part of the defamation.
The first, and lesser, of the two, was a story by a sex columnist who told of cocaine, champagne (sheridans a self proclaimed tee-totaller) group sex, red leather and spanking. The journalist in question then told the court that all of these details are made up and that the only claim she stands by was that she and sheridan visited a swingers party years before.
The second, and the major part of the case, was a story from a former party member that claimed she had a four year affair with Sheridan involving all the extras included in the journalists story. However, the word is that this woman is about to also be charged with perjury.
That would leave the NotW case dead in the water and while it is possible for both sides to be charged with perjury, lets not take a police charge as proof of a tabloid story.
There has never been a police investigation into perjury folowing a civil case in Scotland. This episode shows that NotW and tabloids have a new power to influence courts and police so we shouldnt really be celebrating that, whether you like Sheridan or not.

Tommy has destroyed years of progress made by the SSP in Scotland. Whatever possessed him to go down this suicidal path is beyond me.

It was the after court speeches that sunk him and his party - the true believers loved it - everyone else decided he was a ranting nob entirely lacking a sense of proportion.
The NOTW saying he shagged about behind his wife’s back is not remotely like the Sun’s notorious Scum headline and to equate the two is disgusting.

Good! I may not like the News of the World but there was always something dubious about the Sheridans and the way they rejoiced every day outside court. For once I was on the side of the paper… I hope he gets nailed from all sides!
