Says Melissa: “My friend and I had music playing loudly out of our mobile phones and this little girl was dancing to it. It was only when I looked closely at her I realised it was Madeleine. She had a very thin face and her blonde hair had been cut much shorter, down to her jaw. But it was her”
Why so certain?
“I looked in her eye because I’d seen on TV that Madeleine’s got a defect in her right iris and I saw this girl had it. I could hardly believe my eyes but I knew for sure it was Madeleine. I called out her name and she looked up at me - she obviously recognised it”
Obviously. Dancing with a small child and then you shout out a name and she looks at you…
“But when I called out ‘Madeleine’ the man she was with got worried and started dragging her away from the queue”
The man with Madeleine is described as a “dark-skinned man, who was possibly Algerian”. Blonde girl with dark-skinned man. Like her?
What did Melissa do when he was spotted, this swarthy man?
“As he dragged the girl away he threw a white coat over her and pulled a woollen hat from his pocket and jammed it on her head. Melissa adds: ‘He didn’t say a word but as they got to the door he prodded the girl in the back. I tried to take pictures on my phone but I only got one and it was all blurred. I ran outside after them but they’d vanished”

with 1 million pounds in the Fund, perhaps you would like to explain why a
noted Detective Agency (preferably) U.K. was not appointed in May to start
searching for Madeleine? Also, why wait until October to appoint a small Agency
who have no particular experience in this field, and are charging £58,000 of
donors money who stated Madeleine would be home for Christmas?

That is why people resent it, and it is considered a serious matter to report to the police about someone.

The french procuror doesnt precipitate himself at all either.Shutting up behind his desk saying he cant give any info (if any!) because he is not allowed etc….He”d rather shut up for sure because he knows whats going on….Its so sad.

Ferdinand, to my French ear, it sounds typical of a French early police statement, very careful not to say anything that hasn’t yet been fully checked and approved. France’s civil services are very administrative, and sort of heavy-handed. (By the way, I am French, both my parents are French, I was born in France).
They now have to fully interview the man, establish with proof who he is and who the girl is, write a report about it, have it signed by the man, then by the authorities in charge. Once the process has started, it will develop fully. And before the poor man is cleared, it will take time. He’ll have to justify himself, go to the police station many times, signe statements etc… He probably wonders now if it is going to stay in his police file, and he will have trouble later if ever he applies for a civil servant job. That is why people resent it, and it is considered a serious matter to report to the police about someone.

If the sightings -or some of them- are staged (e.g. in the Mari Olli sighting in Morocco, there was no child on the cctv footage, although Mari Olli herself and the woman who was allegedly accompanying the child could be seen), the police might have got wise to it and this would be the reason why they don’t show the footage to the McCanns. Obviously, it might well be in the McCanns interests to spin things out (no pun intended) by saying that they weren’t sure whether or not it was Madeleine.

If the Home Office DO interfere I think Eurojust would step in, and demand to
know why permission was not granted. The PJ apparently have already said
the result of these interviews would determine the next step, either charging, lifting the Arguido status, or shelving the case.
With all the time, cost, and abuse the PJ have taken from the U.K. Press,
plus the McCann camp constantly disrupting progress with these “sightings”,
my guess would be that they would shelve the case, rather than free the McCanns from suspicion
