Is Madeleine McCann Disappearing From The UK Press?
THE Anorak has been watching the media’s treatment of the Madeleine McCann story for some months.
The tragedy of a missing child was turned into a media feeding frenzy, a grim story with any gaps in the narrative plugged with speculation and voyeurism.
We were invited to become sleuths, armchair detectives working out who had done what and how. Nothing meaningful has been achieved by this. Madeleine McCann is missing.
Who cannot feel for those involved? Who would want to be them?
Now Anorak learns from a reader that the Madeleine McCann story may be disappearing from the British press, and newspapers’ websites.
Anorak’s team of moderators seeks to weed out libellous comments and anyone making accusations against individuals they cannot back up. We seek not to mirror the press but show you how the story is presented by media outlets to their audiences. Now read this:

Every single story in the Daily Express and in the Daily Star regarding Madeleine McCann has disappeared.
This was the answer given by the Daily Express’ online editor, Geoff Marsh:

Your opinion of course, but have you ever done that thing where you suspend a ring from a piece of cotton thread, or a hair or anything else equally fine, hold the thread between your finger and thumb and let it dangle whilst resting your elbow on the table and then concentrate on it and make it swing back and forth, round and round, stop and go the other way ? Try it… you have to stabilise your arm as much as you possibly can in order to keep it from swinging other than how you want it to. When it “stops” it actually trembles.
I got a very sceptical aquaintance to do it as he would curl his lip every time we mentioned it and to see him break out in a sweat as he concentrated hard on making it swing, twirl, go backwards and forwards, stop etc was very gratifying to watch, now he bores everyone witless with “his” party trick !!

Have Mr and Mrs McCann and their friends, actually refused to co-operate with giving further information, beyond the refusal which made them arguidos
Why is it necessary for the Portuguese authorities to come to the UK when the two police forces (UK) are co-operating and have already interviewed many of the witnesses who came back immediately, i.e. the Saturday of the holiday.
Exactly why are nine people requiring the legal procedure, in order to co-operate.
I just don’t understand it ?
Perhaps it about time the media in the UK actually explained a few things.

I agree Chatelaine, this is no longer my stamping ground.
I think almost everyone on here tonight are distractors.
Their job to keep on returning to the superficial and banal and
eventual drive frustrated posters elsewhere.
I am sad, it was good, but it was probably time to move on anyway.

Sad though her plight is, she is not our raison d’etre although for a long time has been one of the threads in the many strands that make up Anorak.
