Is Madeleine McCann Disappearing From The UK Press?
THE Anorak has been watching the media’s treatment of the Madeleine McCann story for some months.
The tragedy of a missing child was turned into a media feeding frenzy, a grim story with any gaps in the narrative plugged with speculation and voyeurism.
We were invited to become sleuths, armchair detectives working out who had done what and how. Nothing meaningful has been achieved by this. Madeleine McCann is missing.
Who cannot feel for those involved? Who would want to be them?
Now Anorak learns from a reader that the Madeleine McCann story may be disappearing from the British press, and newspapers’ websites.
Anorak’s team of moderators seeks to weed out libellous comments and anyone making accusations against individuals they cannot back up. We seek not to mirror the press but show you how the story is presented by media outlets to their audiences. Now read this:

Madeleine McCann is vanishing from the British Press
Every single story in the Daily Express and in the Daily Star regarding Madeleine McCann has disappeared.
This was the answer given by the Daily Express’ online editor, Geoff Marsh:
“Hi xxx, Many thanks for your email. For operational reasons, some articles previously available on express.co.UK have been temporarily removed. I’m afraid I can’t go into any more detail. Best wishes, Geoff”
And from the web team of Daily Express:
“Hi xxx

I assure you, we do value you - and your input.
Daily Express

hola gente!
gente means people)
Maybe are we near of the quiz to the tapas? After the last spin (which must be number twenty or thirty something) perhaps papers bosses have said: hey, enough is enough… we cannot publish more rubbish about sightings all over the world anymore
I think they are in the know that something is about to happen, or does anyone imagine that PJ is going to forget that the Home Office owes them an aswer?

I hear Sir Jimmy Saville has been approached to front a new Whoosh Clunk campaign.

“ ‘We were invited to become sleuths, armchair detectives working out who had done what and how. Nothing meaningful has been achieved by this. Madeleine McCann is missing.’
An interesting post from the Anorak introduction above.”
Is it perhaps an appropriate moment to briefly recount the natural history of this campaign?
There have been people battling for truth and justice in this case from May of last year, notably, in the early days, on petitiononline and ionglobaltrends. This expression of outrage and concern boiled and simmered through the summer months, long before the British media took a critical interest, or moved beyond their infantile ‘poor-luvvy-lost’ theme. The depth of reporting and analysis on cerain blogs, and the critical examination of developments from long before the arguido status and the flight from Portugal, is equal to anything seen since last September.
Are we are now to speculate on why a certain element in the British press have decided to cover their tracks? Whatever the reason, it does not matter.
Anorak’s comment above, with the presumption of what their posters’ interest and motives may have been, is unjustified.
But it may well be true that nothing meaningful has been achieved on Anorak. If that is their opinion of their own contribution, so be it.
I would not necessarily agree.

Maybe the journalists are in the know, and don’t go public, either because they shouldn’t be in the know, or they aren’t allowed to talk about it.
From what you say, it seems the PJ didn’t get any positive answer to their rogatory letters, hence talking of extending the arguido status for another 3 months. If they had, the Portuguese press would talk about it, unless it was a common agreement between the Portuguese justice and the British justice not to give informations to the media. The Portuguese secrecy laws could explain such a decision.
Very strange how the media go from one extreme to another extreme.

This is what is exactely happening: let the cops do their job and keep quiet about any info leads etc….the mccanns are very aggressive and arrogant people.
Yes a different approach because the protagonists are very different as well.
What the mccanns have been successful at doing is to make any parent suspicious in a case of real abduction ….well done

Number of working days the Home Office has in which to respond to a a variety of enquiries from other Member States… general enquiries about the execution for assistance within 10 working days, but upon receipt of the request where the request is marked “urgent,” or within 20 working days for all other requests. Regarding requests to the UK for service of process (for summons and other procedural documents), the Home Office will usually arrange for the execution of these in 10 working days of their receipt.
Back in 01/02/08 a 24 Hours article explained:
The Public Ministry is due today to send the final version of the rogatory letter that is destined to question the parents of Madeleine McCann and their friends again.
From joanas blog an other link
This will be the end of a ’soap opera’ that began after a magistrate from the British Home Office unauthorized her colleague at Eurojust, the European entity which processes the interchange of judicial issues among the various countries. She demanded that the letter is sent through official channels - which means through the Portuguese Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
etc….etc…..
I feel I am turning in circle…..spinning?

I wish them well in the search and if the professionals involved think it is best to keep things quiet then I would not argue with that (similarly Madeleine)

I mean for Mari luz there are no news full stop.
Nothing no official news no spin no emotional videos nada.
Juan Cortes said as well he will not reveal who is the detective firm they will employoo (if ever) to minimize risks of jeopardising their work.
The approach is very different. It is much more private dignified I would say.It does not mean they have stopped looking for her.
They are planning a trip to East Europe to visit gypsy chiefs I guess….

I don’t remember an official PJ one and I believe their rules are much more restrictive than the UK in releasing any information about an ongoing enquiry - hence “sources close to”. It is just a different approach from the UK that I think people (including myself) have difficulty understanding.

Wasnit done in portugal? (press conference etc…)
I am not sure the PJ would want or would be allowed to have a press conference.I just dont know.Surely not before the case is solved resolved and forgotten
February 22nd, 2008 at 8:23 pm
Or is it that e eryone is getting nervous because something is bound to happen soon, as a result of the rogatory lettes?

“…The footage was released at a news conference at Dewsbury Police Station, during which Det Supt Andy Brennan confirmed that Shannon had written on her bedroom wall that she wanted to see more of her father.
But he said this was just part of an array of scribbles that the youngster had daubed on the wall….”
This was released by the police in the Shannon Matthews case at a news conference.
I don’t remember seeing a news conference or any information released by the PJ for madeleine. Maybe it is just the difference that is causing so much speculation.

Internal decision, yes, but there must be a good reason for it. If they had decided to stop talking of the case as a new policy, they wouldn’t feel the need to delete everything printed about it previously.
I wonder if such a thing has happened before in some newspapers about other cases.

February 22nd, 2008 at 8:08 pm
Since they say it is temporary, it will be interesting to see if they put them back, and what will have been deleted from them.
