Perosnally, i think Sarkozy should not be punished or critisized for the way he acted… The guy obviously said something quite nasty, so Sarkozy told him to go away. The guy THEN retailiated even more. Honestly now (seeing as pauvre con is such a mild everyday french insult), which one of you guys would not use that if someone dont you that you “dirtied them”. Myself, i would smack him, but then i’m not French president!

Con in French is quite a mild expression.

It can mean any thing from pussy (vagina) to stupid.

We don’t have words that are unacceptable except in the very lowest level of society such as your f**k and c**t.

If I wished to convey the same meaning in English I would probably say prat, jerk or yes perhaps even asshole..

Gosh, but it could all be almost Greek to me. The thing with speaking French is I get confused with the words. I end up saying “Un(e) poi” instead of “Un(e) peut” when I’m asked if I speak it at all and now I’ll probably end up calling someone “poivre con” which could end up getting me smacked if being a peppered arsehole is considered worse than just being a stupid one.
