DAILY RECORD: “Six New Sites To Be Probed In Jersey Children’s Home Body Hunt”

“A sniffer dog that discovered a child’s remains at a former children’s home has found six other areas at the site to investigate. Police continued to search Haut de la Garenne, in St Martin, Jersey, where the body was found on Saturday.

“They were investigating child abuse allegations at the home on the east coast of the island. The bones of the unidentified child – believed to date from the 1980s – were found using ground penetrating radar and Eddie, a springer spaniel sniffer dog previously used in the hunt for Madeleine McCann”

DAILY MIRROR: “Police search 200 homes in a bid to find missing schoolgirl Shannon Matthews”

Shannon Matthews is aged 9

Worried neighbours and family members, some wearing T-shirts showing pictures of the schoolgirl, yesterday filled the residents’ association hall near her home. Leaflets and posters appealing for information have been distributed. Day and night searches by friends and relatives are still going on. Gerry McCann, father of missing Madeleine, said Shannon’s disappearance was “deeply concerning”.

Hunt for more kid remains – A “sniffer dog has pinpointed SIX more places where bodies may be buried at the ex-children’s home where a youngster’s bones were unearthed. The child’s remains were found by a spaniel, used in the hunt for Madeleine McCann, under inches of concrete on Saturday”

THE SUN:” “McCanns: We pray for Shan”

But this is about Shannon Matthews. What has it to do with the McCanns?

“Madeleine McCann’s parents sent a heartfelt message of support yesterday to the distraught mum of Shannon Matthews. Kate and Gerry spoke of “deep concern” for the nine-year-old, who went missing six days ago.

Gerry, whose four-year-old daughter vanished in Praia da Luz, Portugal, last May, said in his online blog: “The continued disappearance of Shannon is deeply concerning and our thoughts and prayers are with her family.

“No matter what has happened to Shannon, there can be no doubt she must be extremely vulnerable”

Are the McCanns now the media’s ubiquitous face of missing children?

“The surgeon, of Rothley, Leics, added: “We hope she is found safe and well very soon and returned to her family.”

DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Eddie the sniffer leads care home search”

The search at Haut de la Garenne is being led by a sniffer dog that specialises in detecting human remains.

Eddie, the springer spaniel, first came to public attention when taken to the Algarve to help the search for Madeleine McCann last summer.

He was said to have picked up traces of the missing girl in the back of Kate and Gerry McCann’s car which they hired five weeks after she disappeared.

DAILY EXPRESS: “THE TORMENT OF MISSING GIRL’S MOTHER”

“TEAFRUL Karen Matthews leaves her home yesterday as the desperate search for her daughter Shannon continues”

There is a picture of Karen Matthews looking “distraught”

The congregation at St James Church, Heckmondwike, close to the youngster’s home prayed for her safe return yesterday.

And in another show of solidarity, the parents of missing Madeleine McCann sent a message of support to Shannon’s family…

Miss Matthews, 32, said: “I’m really touched that another family who are going through the same thing that we are going through are thinking and praying for us”

Mrs Matthews is not a named suspect in her child’s disappearance

DORSET ECHO: “Police play down Madeleine sighting”

DORSET Police are playing down an alleged sighting of missing Madeleine McCann in the county. Alan Cameron, a retired civil servant, claims the toddler turned up at his house in Stratton, three miles north-west of Dorchester… A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “We are grateful for the call but there is nothing at this time to suggest this is the missing girl.
“Enquiries are continuing to finalise this.”

What did he see?

“Mr Cameron, 66, said he became suspicious when he saw a girl sitting in the couple’s car.

He told the Sunday Express: “Straight away the couple struck me as odd. The woman said she was Italian but they were speaking fluent Portu-guese. The man told me they ran a language centre in Weymouth but then the woman hit him and told him to be quiet.”

Mr Cameron, a former clerk with the Director of Public Prosecutions, said the girl spoke in English and appeared distressed as he let her use his bathroom.

He said: “The woman grabbed her and scooped her under her arm.

“She didn’t allow the girl to walk and deliberately pushed the hood of her jersey over her head. She was sobbing. This little girl was unhappy and she was scared. I knew straight away it was a face I’d seen in the news. I’m convinced of it.”
