Ten Million Britons Looking To Flee The UK
“THE GREAT EXODUS,” says the Daily Express on its front page. “WHY 4 MILLION OF US WANT TO QUIT BRITAIN.”
Inside: “Figures out yesterday show that of the 10 million people looking to buy a property abroad in the next tear, four million will consider leaving for good.”
Can it be that we are now so rich that 10 million of us are looking to buy a home overseas? “In today’s Britain there are so few reasons to be cheerful,” says the Express’s leader. But here, at last, is one.
The Express features one Peter Ellis, who tells us: “With the rising cost of living…it seems that many of us are seeking refuge aboard.”
Things are so expensive in Blighty that 10 million of us – around one sixth of the total population - have enough cash to buy a home overseas.
Take into consideration the four million looking to move away permanently and six million of us are looking to buy a home over there while living in the UK.
Says Mr Ellis: “Buying property overseas is still an excellent investment and a great opportunity for a better quality of life.”
Well, 10 million of us cannot be wrong. And these are just the ones looking who have not already bought into the dream.
Mr Ellis knows his stuff. Incidentally, he is the director of something called Foreign Currency Direct, a company that conducted an online survey of people already looking for a property abroad.
How many responded to his company’s poll is not said, but estimates are between one and ten million. Such is the Daily Express’s news…

I can fully understand why 10 million of us are thinking about buying a 2nd property abroad and also why 4 mil are considering permanent shift. We all want to live the dream and I am sure many of us wonder if the UK can offer that anymore ?
You only have to catch a couple of the the great BBC series episodes of ” wanted down under ” and your off to assess your visa eligibilty to see if you have desirable skills and dreaming of your visit to Australia house and visualising just what a great life you would have! Coupled with more bang to your buck.
Money goes so much farther when away from the UK
For me for now .. it’s the UK I run a great business that I enjoy .. but who knows if early retirement beckons .. I would be surprised if I stay put here.
Only time will tell
Till then I shall join the many millions of others seeking the dream

I don’t suppose they’ll be moving to Dewsbury either. Equally unpleasant, but just as true.
England 1 Portugal 1.
I’m all for the British staying well away from beautiful places such as the Algarve; we infest wherever we settle with our arrogance and xenophobia.

the ones who have young kids won’t be coming in any case - sorry, unpleasant but true…

edna, the english shouldn’t moan how bad things work? nothing works in the UK. Because this country is mostly run people from 3rd world countries nowerdays. one day only brown people with strange accents will inhabitate this gloomy, little island. no-one with any great sense will want to live here anymore (or if you live in denial, too poor to move…) i am moving too :o) to germany!! yippee…they are lovely there

Please, please do not move to Portugal!!! There are too many from the UK already. Go to Spain, they’ll love you. We do not want you buying up more of our country. I have nothing against Brits except they don’t really like the Portuguese, just the cheap property and being able to blab to their friends how lazy people are , how bad the food is, and how badly things work.
