Shannon Matthews, Madeleine McCann And Haut De La Garenne
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
EVENING STANDARD: “MAN HELPING IN SEARCH SHANNON MATTHEWS ‘CRUCIFIED’ JUST YARDS FROM MISSING GIRL’S HOME”
A man helping in the search for missing schoolgirl Shannon Matthews is believed to have been crucified outside his house just yards from the nine-year-old’s family home.
Police are investigating the alleged assault of a 43-year-old man who neighbours claim was nailed to a wooden cross through his hands on Sunday night, and some locals claim the attack is related to the hunt for the missing girl.
And the McCanns?
Meanwhile, the McCanns, whose daughter Madeleine disappeared from their holiday apartment in the Algarve last May, have pledged their support to Shannon’s parents.
Writing in his personal online blog, Gerry McCann, said he and his wife Kate were praying for her safe return.
“No matter what has happened to Shannon, there is no doubt she is extremely vulnerable,” he added. “We hope she is found safe and well soon and returned to her family.”
Will the McCanns be called upon to comment on every missing child?
YORKSHIRE POST: “Agencies face abuse inquiry in wake of body find”
Police are searching a former children’s home Haut de la Garenne where they discovered a child’s skull. Police are now searching six more sites at the building now used as a youth hostel.
Police are using Eddie, who works with South Yorkshire Police as an “enhanced victim recovery dog”.
Eddie is said to have picked up traces of missing Madeleine McCann in the back of a car which her parents hired five weeks after she disappeared.

15/19 is Maddie. Remaining 4 markers not recoverable. NOT non-match.
This is significant. However, the contested issue is the LCN method ( because of the very small & degraded samples ) used to obtain this result. Mitochondrial DNA as opposed to the more definitive nuclear DNA.

How right you are to point out that it was, in some cases, a question of life and death!
I expect it is difficult to realise now that women had to fight very hard for their rights to be fully recognised.

I’ve been logged off for a bit but have just come back and seen your comment. That sounds like good advice re learning. My daughter didn’t like sociology but did it as one of her A levels as it didn’t require coursework. She was home educated and so coursework was off the agenda (too difficult to get marked). She is now studying politics at Cambridge, and has become FAR too grand to take any notice of me. She rings me to ask about the odd essay but generally doesn’t rate my knowledge, which I have told her is far superior to hers (as I’ve had longer to absorb it!). You sound as though you know a lot about these subjects - the two of you would probably get on very well.

Dear Members,
We are calling for your support in targeting You Tube to have vile material removed from their website. We don’t just want to send one or two complaints, we want to send a bulk within a 24 hour period. Our target for the 24 hour complaints period is Tuesday 26th February. On that day, with everything in place, we would like as many posters as possible to flag the material and send an email of complaint.
We were directed to the You Tube site a few days ago, regarding a really vile piece of video footage. We were astonished that You Tube allowed this to remain on their site and be viewed. In our opinion that sends the wrong message to millions of viewers. The video was of Madeleine talking from beyond the grave, asking Kate why she had killed her. Then we noticed other footage, just as vile, accusing Kate of killing Madeleine. It appears that in allowing this material to be viewed, You Tube supports it. People are openly accusing Kate and Gerry of killing Madeleine without any concrete evidence. What is more disturbing is that by their actions these people are promoting hate behaviour towards the McCanns. You Tube’s inability to effectively judge material before allowing publication on their website, is allowing people to spread hate and lies about the case. Whatever happened to human decency and the principle of ‘innocent till proven guilty in a court of law’? You Tube should review their publications criteria regarding this type of material because, currently, it’s a free for all.
Here is what we are hoping to achieve with your help.
*Find as much unacceptable video footage on You Tube as possible and compile a list. At the bottom of this email are some of the links to footage we have found so far.
*Encourage as many people as possible to register at You Tube for the sole purpose of flagging this material and then e-mailing them a complaint.
*As already stated, we are hoping to make our voices heard over a 24 hour period, so as to target youtube with many hundreds/thousands of complaints. The date is set for Tuesday 26 February 2008.
Here are some of the links to the footage.
WARNING . IF you are sensitive to this type of viewing DON’T WATCH the video’s, you can just list the footage links in your complaint.

I know you weren’t, feminism was an essential tool for woman and children to gain their rights to basic respect for being people not chattels.
Free love etc were just concepts to break away from the hidebound idea that sex never happened except for inside marriage, and just a peripheral of contraception. Think the rise in NSGD put an end to that anyway.
The 60’s and 70’s looking back were strange, but were very exciting to be in, and compared to the stuffiness and nonsense of previous decades very very cleansing - the old saying you can’t make an omelette springs to mind

I wasn’t generalising - I was talking about a very specific set of ideas that were influencing certain sections of society - but it so happened that they were being influenced in the 1970s.
Michel Foucault is on the Left - he considered himself a Marxist - but obviously as a deconstrucionist he was a pretty useless Marxist. And he’s not a fringe figure - in Academia he’s huge - at the moment he’s one of the most written about, most followed figures in Philosophy.
And it was feminists who were championing things like anti-porn campaigns in Britain and in America they were claiming that a man asking a woman out on a date was tantamount to sexual harassment - that’s hardly libertarian.

Today after a very long time (I know it took a while to find the time to go to you tube), I watched Portuguese RTP Documentary “Anatomy of a Mistery”.
I have to say that there were a few issues that surprised me and only demonstrate how far we are from actually knowing the information that the PJ have.
- The guy at Restaurant Paraiso confirms with CCTV footage that Madeleine McCann was with her parents at the restaurant until 5.30 PM (and for a great part of the afternoon) on 3rd of May. Yet, the witness statements from the creche at the Ocean Club say that she was only collected from creche after 6PM. Although contradictory, they both seem to attest that Madeleine was alive in the early hours of the evening of 3rd of May.
- The sniffer dogs brought in by the portuguese cops very early on the investigation (when they were still on the abduction mode), tracked Madeleine to an adjacent apartment in the Ocean Club. I always thought this had been the apartment of one of the Tapas group, but in the “Anatomy” documentary they say that this apartment was occupied by another british couple that left the day after madeleine was reported missing. They also say that this couple was then brought back to Portugal for interrogation but was cleared of any involvement.
- They said that there is a key period between 6 - and - 10pm where there are many contradictions between all the tapas group. But it is within that period that Gerry exchanges 14 SMS messages.
- The PJ is said to have lined up a series of 11 cars for inspection by the british sniffer dogs. One of the cars was seized in Lisbon and belonged to a friend of Mr O’BRian - a surfer… They seem to mention that the dogs reacted only on the McCanns Scenic. THey do not mention if other samples were taken from any of the other cars.
- THe day the McCanns went to Huelva the PJ took the sniffer dogs to their apartment (rented after they left the ocean club). I presume this was done without notifying them. It was there that the dogs had a stronger reaction to Kates clothes and it was also there that they have copied Kate’s diary. More surprisingly, they have come across a series of documentation (book) possibly brought by Gerry from the US, and that talked about cadaver occultation. THis to me suggests that Gerry has odd reading habits, and the McCanns knew very early on that they were being investigated by the PJ.
- The DNA evidence seems to remain a subject of great controversy. Just after Sky announced that there was a 100% match with Madeleine DNA the PJ came to rectify that there was not a total match. However, it is clear that whatever came back from the FSS was the element that led to the McCanns being made arguidos. THey claim that the samples from the car identified 15 markers (out of 19) with the others not being available (ie they were not incompatible). This was considered by a geneticist as “highly probable” that those traces belonged to Madeleine McCann. The sample in the apartment was less conclusive.
OVerall, i don’t think the documentary is conclusive, but it does confirm that we only have a fraction of the real information available to the PJ.

Michel Foucault wasn’t the left, he was on its fringes, a very controversial writer, even among his fellows, who certainly wasn’t representative of the left as a whole.
In France the feminists certainly “didn’t end all the sexual liberation”. On the contrary, they helped with it, mainly by allowing women to use contraception and getting a law allowing abortion (which was passed by Simone Weil, a centrist). Only, for them sexual liberation didn’t mean incest or abuse, or paedophilia. There were laws against incest and paedophilia in the 70 ies in France. I can still remember a program on TV where a male novelist was boasting about his affairs with young adolescent girls. I can still picture another writer, a feminist, telling him very hardly that there were laws to stop people like him. As I said, people wrote about without fearing the law, but those who did it were against the law. I expect it was the same in England.
I know we are off topic, but being a witness of those years, I don’t agree with quick generalisations about them! I even think that it is the work done in those years that later brought recognition of children’s rights.

It also brought an independance for women too, especially over their own bodies when a matter of life and death.
A friend of mine was in desperate need of a c -section, and although she was 28 years old she was not permitted to sign for it to be done. The hospital could not locate the father, so a Writ had to be ordered before they could go ahead. It was this case that was the test case that the mother could give her consent only. When her husband was located (he had been stuck in traffic) he was horrified that she could not call her body her own, and the risks forced on her. The child survived too, just

It wasn’t legal.
We were talking about cultural attitudes among some of the more radical liberal/left that seeped into the attitudes of the social work department - so that a lot of social workers were turning a blind eye to child abuse or didn’t class it as abuse.
Similar to the way they hand out contraceptives to 11 year olds and help 14 year olds get abortions without their parents knowing.
