Portuguese taxi driver claims Madeleine McCann was in his cab the night she vanished — with Robert Murat. “Antonio Cardoso, 67, insisted he took the little girl and four adults on a short journey to a hotel where they all switched to a Jeep with foreign plates.”
Says he:
“I later recognised him on television. I am sure it was him…She was awake but silent. She was just staring ahead with big owlish eyes. I noticed her eye because my son was born with a defect much the same. I saw her kind of twist her chin a few times in my rear-view mirror. I remember she was in pink pyjamas and wondered why they hadn’t dressed her.”
Says McCann spokesman Clarence Mitchell: “We are dismissing this primarily because the timings are entirely wrong.”

Antonio Castela, 67, said he dropped off the missing girl and her English-speaking mystery companions at an Algarve hotel and watched them drive off in a blue jeep. He insisted he was “100% sure” his passengers included Madeleine.

It’s Mother’s Day on Sunday, and those of us lucky enough to have children can expect to be given cards and flowers. But with Madeleine McCann and the schoolgirl Shannon Matthews still missing, Milly Dowler’s stricken parents making a heartrending appeal for information about their daughter’s murder, and the reminders again of the brutal killing of young women by Steve Wright and Levi Bellfield, I rather think it should be the other way round.

As the investigation enters its second week, Joseph Furniture, based in Bradley, Huddersfield, has put up a £5,000 reward for any information that leads to Shannon’s safe return.
In a statement the firm said: “As a company that was founded in Dewsbury and a former employer of Shannon’s uncle, Neil Hyett, we feel a social and moral responsibility to aid with reuniting Shannon Matthews with her beloved family.”

The house where missing schoolgirl Shannon Matthews’ mum is staying was searched by police yesterday. Officers with sniffer dogs trained to find human remains were sent in to track down clues to the nine-year-old’s disappearance.
The house in Dewsbury, West Yorks, belongs to family friend Peter “Scouser” Brown, 34, who lives just a few doors from Shannon’s mum Karen and her boyfriend Craig Meehan, 22.
Shannons’ parents are not doctors. There is no media feeeding frenzy.

delboy, your mother is a wise woman, and very correct! My son may not turn out to be the best adult around, but at least I know I will do the best I can for him. His grandparents (my parents) live 1/2 hour drive away from us, and they have never, ever had a request from me to look after him. I know they would do it without a doubt, but I don’t feel the need to palm my child off on someone else. I wouldn’t even contemplate leaving him alone in an apartment with an unlocked door, and hoping that something didn’t happen. This is the reason why I am so anti.
When I first heard of a child going missing in Portugal, I wanted to jump in to help to find her, but then I started to see the initial videos of the parents, the reports, the internet links of the apartment distance to the place where her parents were, and I was SHOCKED to my bones … I could not believe that this was true! Then I realised that all was not as it appeared, there was something far deeper to this than we were told!
I just pray that the truth comes out, and those responsible pay dearly for what happened to Madeleine!

I think its a fair point and I understand your anguish.
The first thing about this case is that it happened in a foreign country. Not only that it happened to a defenceless little 3 year old, taken, apparently, from her bed as she slept. The thought of this being true horrifies people. That, coupled with the fact that the parents were deterred from speaking about anything directly to do with the case and who were totally reliant on the PJ put them in a very fragile position. I think this was realised when they initially refused to show the sketch of the abductor. Public support grew.
Of course, as time has gone on they have become arguidos. This alone has kept the McCanns high in the public domain (without their own campaign). The doubts about the PJ have also fuelled more speculation about this whole disaster.
So in short, it is unlike any other case and unfortunately not comparable to other children going missing. That said, it doesnt mean that they are any less important because they certainly arent. And with regard to the little spanish girl, maybe she could have had the eyes of the world on that case too. The parents chose to do it their own way and that is understandble with hindsight!

Suggestions are being made, that the taxi drivers statement was not acted upon, and that there is one very pissed of Mr Riberio. I also read the 24Horas account/translation and it bears no resemblance to the original statement.
Why Robert Murat is still a suspect or arguido puzzles me, unless the PJ have him somewhere he was not supposed to be, like the taxi.
I was going to say time will tell but I don’t think it will, to much time has passed and people are getting bored, not with Madeleine, but the lack of concise action from authority.

They are prime suspects in a CRIMINAL investigation.
This status is given to people the authoriries suspect they have committed an offense.
To be arguidos also gave them rights and especially the right to shut up .
They went the opposite way: they never stopped defending themselves and play the “poor me I am a victim”.

julie an old saying my mother used to say, you dont have kids to palm them off to someone else and its true, it will be difficult for you on your own,Iknow, my sister braught her daughter(my niece) up as a single mother, and she(my niece) is now twenty eight and doing marvelous,my sister like you and me believed the same…………you can only do your best babe, but as long as you do your best no one can knock you for it!….not like those mcc pratts.

delboy, you and your wife have your priorities in life 103 % correct.
I am a single parent of a 5 year old. If he cannot go where I go, I simply do not go! Plain and to the point, he is mine, part of me, and it is my responsibility to care for him. He goes to day care, so that I can work, and that is IT, the rest of the time, he is with me.
At the moment, he is sleeping on the couch next to me, and that is where he stays, until I go to bed, and carry him to his own bed. Over-protective? Perhaps, but at least he will realise when he grows up that his mother really cared for him and wanted him … he is not in my way, and never will be! This is why I get so aggro over this whole Madeleine situation. Parents are not meant to act the way they did!

Now we agree. Yes, by leaving the kids alone the created they opportunity for someone to abduct Madeleine [if she was abducted]. So they could be charged imo for neglect [up to prosecutor/judge to decide/convict], but imo so could also the others be charged….
If she wasn’t abducted…. then I expect more serious charges….

I agree with you the Taxi story has no credibility, why or how it surfaced at this time is anybody”s guess. If it is another ploy by CM to divert attention from the
imminent visit of Rebelo, it hasn”t worked. Joe public is fed up to the eye teeth
with these ridiculous sightings and with poor little shannon still missing and the
Jersey case, there is too much else to think about.

rich people become lazy parents IMO, kids shoved with day care, nannies, hardly see their parents, I loved being around my parents and they loved to have me around them, and I am the same with my kids, we do everything together as I have stated before my wife and myself hav’nt been out together for years on our own, we wont leave our children and there are more places now than ever before where you can take them with you,
