Madeleine McCann In A Taxi ‘With Murat’, Denied And Shannon Matthews
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
THE SUN: “Maddie & Murat ‘in a cab’”
Portuguese taxi driver claims Madeleine McCann was in his cab the night she vanished — with Robert Murat. “Antonio Cardoso, 67, insisted he took the little girl and four adults on a short journey to a hotel where they all switched to a Jeep with foreign plates.”
Says he:
“I later recognised him on television. I am sure it was him…She was awake but silent. She was just staring ahead with big owlish eyes. I noticed her eye because my son was born with a defect much the same. I saw her kind of twist her chin a few times in my rear-view mirror. I remember she was in pink pyjamas and wondered why they hadn’t dressed her.”
Says McCann spokesman Clarence Mitchell: “We are dismissing this primarily because the timings are entirely wrong.”
IRISH EXAMINER: “Taxi driver claims he picked up Madeleine”
Antonio Castela, 67, said he dropped off the missing girl and her English-speaking mystery companions at an Algarve hotel and watched them drive off in a blue jeep. He insisted he was “100% sure” his passengers included Madeleine.
The McCanns and Robert Murat — the third official suspect in the Madeleine McCann case — all deny wrongdoing”
Kate Mccann is a “GP” Kate and husband Gerry a “heart specialist”
TIMES: “Forget Happy Meals, let’s focus on happy families”
Sandra Parsons looks at “The greatest gift of all”:
It’s Mother’s Day on Sunday, and those of us lucky enough to have children can expect to be given cards and flowers. But with Madeleine McCann and the schoolgirl Shannon Matthews still missing, Milly Dowler’s stricken parents making a heartrending appeal for information about their daughter’s murder, and the reminders again of the brutal killing of young women by Steve Wright and Levi Bellfield, I rather think it should be the other way round.
DAILY MIRROR: “Mother vows never to give up in the search for missing Shannon Matthews”
Shannon Matthews’s mum yesterday said she would never stop searching for her daughter. Karen, 32, fighting back tears, said: “We will never give up on her. It is more than a week and we are desperate to have Shannon back. Our message to people is never give up because we won’t”
Adding:
“We’ve shed a lot of tears. “It was really emotional seeing people walking through the streets with us to support our family. I was overwhelmed by the turnout. Now we just want Shannon found. We just pray she will be found safe.
YORKSHIRE POST: “Police quiz 1,500 drivers in hunt for missing Shannon”
A reward. Like Madeleine:
As the investigation enters its second week, Joseph Furniture, based in Bradley, Huddersfield, has put up a £5,000 reward for any information that leads to Shannon’s safe return.
In a statement the firm said: “As a company that was founded in Dewsbury and a former employer of Shannon’s uncle, Neil Hyett, we feel a social and moral responsibility to aid with reuniting Shannon Matthews with her beloved family.”
DAILY STAR: “SHANNON HUNT AT MUM’S ‘DIGS’ - HOME OF FAMILY FRIEND SCOURED”
The house where missing schoolgirl Shannon Matthews’ mum is staying was searched by police yesterday. Officers with sniffer dogs trained to find human remains were sent in to track down clues to the nine-year-old’s disappearance.
The house in Dewsbury, West Yorks, belongs to family friend Peter “Scouser” Brown, 34, who lives just a few doors from Shannon’s mum Karen and her boyfriend Craig Meehan, 22.
Shannons’ parents are not doctors. There is no media feeeding frenzy.

I don’t know. This is not the most likely hypothesis for me. There are a number of holes in it, even if we assume it was a different day.
However, to answer the question, why would the child be wearing pyjamas? Well, she could have been dead. Or she might have been ill (to any degree, not necessarily dying). Kids will stay in pyjamas all day if they’re not well, even perhaps in the car if there is a need to transport them from A to B.
Or, as MN suggested, perhaps they were not ‘pyjames’, but pink leggings.
February 28th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
logic;sorry for late response but that would depend on what you mean by proven,if that means in acourt of law then the answer is no.i believe in listening to the children and making judgement,i know some children make up stories so there would be alot involved,

Isn’t there a real problem with the indications given by the dogs if the DNA evidence does not link conclusively to Madeleine. Just imagine a defense lawyer:
1. Blood/cadaver smells in the apartment - Q. did anyone else ever stay at the apartment before the Mccanss?
2. Blood/cadaver smells in the car - Q. did anyone else ever rent the car before the Mccanns?
It is the DNA evidence that I think will have to be conclusive.
Mods and Admin
dcb , it had been clarified by PJ and the public Records people in PDL that there had NOT been a registered death in that apartment beforethe McC’s rented it

Now who has the “deliberately aggressive attitude?” Hardly “civilised behaviour” is it?
Don’t worry, I think I get what’s going on. You can say anything you like, as long as you are anti-McCann.
Administrator: I have the power and I regard every blocking which is about to happen to you as a failure. It offends me. Perhaps not as much as your swollen-headed attitude to fair debate does. You are history. That’s not power it’s hard fact. -agw

I want to add to what I said before that, in a democracy, we should be allowed to talk about a case without being treated as if we took justice into our own hands. Those who want to stop us from exchanging our views don’t believe in democracy.

Actually, no. I have often referred to the possibility that the siblings ‘witnessed’ a death, and I was including the possibility that they might have been asleep at the time. In this case, their ‘witness’ might not be physical but I still believe that, if they were present, they will have witnessed psychologically what happened and will retain it in their memories, dreams, psyche.
Think how you can absorb a ringing doorbell or telephone into a dream…
What they retain might never be enough to help an investigation, even if they are helped by a police or trauma psychologist, but I believe it will affect their psychological development as they go thru’ life.

About pyjamas : they are so pretty nowadays, that sometimes it is difficult to tell the difference between pyjamas and trousers. And pink is such a common colour for little girls to wear, that I don’t think it is a meaningful information.
If the police dismissed it, it has no value, according to me. The PJ aren’t stupid. If they had a lead that allowed them solve the case, they would follow it.

Look fired in:
407 Anyone who believes there was a scent of a corpse in the apartment is very naive. The so-called “evidence” you buffoons base your LUDICROUS conspiracy theories on is all rumour and hearsay by lazy Portuguese journos who have it in for Kate and Gerry.
Administrator: Any more of this gratuitous and unjustified abuse and I act to stop it. If you have a point to make, do it within the confines of civilised behaviour. You appear to have entered this site with a deliberately aggressive attitude. It reminds me of a banned poster, one Frances Wickes.
I will make this crystal clear to you and all others here. I and the Moderators have NO views as to the rights and or wrongs in the McCann child’s disappearance. Who can? All that is known to be fact is: The child is missing, the police force responsible for the investigation of the crime is currently viewing the action or non-action of three individuals to be suspect and has said so by naming them.
All else remains subjective.
If you wish to pick a fight with me, come right ahead sweetpea, Your first words along that path will be your last here. If you doubt that ask around. -agw

I agree. What a good job we have trained police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, and not your mob here on Anorak. Kate and Gerry would have been hung, drawn and quartered already, wouldn’t they?

“Ferdinand
If she died wearing pink pyjamas, she is unlikely to have been changed out of them. ”
That’s not my point. If they were in that village at 8pm, they must have left PDL at 7pm. Moreover, it would make no sense to drive (with which car?) to a taxi stand in a village one hour distant, only to take a taxi to the blue jeep at the hotel. So for whatever purpose, they must have left PDL even earlier. But then, why was the child wearing bedtime clothes for the journey?
