Madeleine McCann In A Taxi ‘With Murat’, Denied And Shannon Matthews
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
THE SUN: “Maddie & Murat ‘in a cab’”
Portuguese taxi driver claims Madeleine McCann was in his cab the night she vanished — with Robert Murat. “Antonio Cardoso, 67, insisted he took the little girl and four adults on a short journey to a hotel where they all switched to a Jeep with foreign plates.”
Says he:
“I later recognised him on television. I am sure it was him…She was awake but silent. She was just staring ahead with big owlish eyes. I noticed her eye because my son was born with a defect much the same. I saw her kind of twist her chin a few times in my rear-view mirror. I remember she was in pink pyjamas and wondered why they hadn’t dressed her.”
Says McCann spokesman Clarence Mitchell: “We are dismissing this primarily because the timings are entirely wrong.”
IRISH EXAMINER: “Taxi driver claims he picked up Madeleine”
Antonio Castela, 67, said he dropped off the missing girl and her English-speaking mystery companions at an Algarve hotel and watched them drive off in a blue jeep. He insisted he was “100% sure” his passengers included Madeleine.
The McCanns and Robert Murat — the third official suspect in the Madeleine McCann case — all deny wrongdoing”
Kate Mccann is a “GP” Kate and husband Gerry a “heart specialist”
TIMES: “Forget Happy Meals, let’s focus on happy families”
Sandra Parsons looks at “The greatest gift of all”:
It’s Mother’s Day on Sunday, and those of us lucky enough to have children can expect to be given cards and flowers. But with Madeleine McCann and the schoolgirl Shannon Matthews still missing, Milly Dowler’s stricken parents making a heartrending appeal for information about their daughter’s murder, and the reminders again of the brutal killing of young women by Steve Wright and Levi Bellfield, I rather think it should be the other way round.
DAILY MIRROR: “Mother vows never to give up in the search for missing Shannon Matthews”
Shannon Matthews’s mum yesterday said she would never stop searching for her daughter. Karen, 32, fighting back tears, said: “We will never give up on her. It is more than a week and we are desperate to have Shannon back. Our message to people is never give up because we won’t”
Adding:
“We’ve shed a lot of tears. “It was really emotional seeing people walking through the streets with us to support our family. I was overwhelmed by the turnout. Now we just want Shannon found. We just pray she will be found safe.
YORKSHIRE POST: “Police quiz 1,500 drivers in hunt for missing Shannon”
A reward. Like Madeleine:
As the investigation enters its second week, Joseph Furniture, based in Bradley, Huddersfield, has put up a £5,000 reward for any information that leads to Shannon’s safe return.
In a statement the firm said: “As a company that was founded in Dewsbury and a former employer of Shannon’s uncle, Neil Hyett, we feel a social and moral responsibility to aid with reuniting Shannon Matthews with her beloved family.”
DAILY STAR: “SHANNON HUNT AT MUM’S ‘DIGS’ - HOME OF FAMILY FRIEND SCOURED”
The house where missing schoolgirl Shannon Matthews’ mum is staying was searched by police yesterday. Officers with sniffer dogs trained to find human remains were sent in to track down clues to the nine-year-old’s disappearance.
The house in Dewsbury, West Yorks, belongs to family friend Peter “Scouser” Brown, 34, who lives just a few doors from Shannon’s mum Karen and her boyfriend Craig Meehan, 22.
Shannons’ parents are not doctors. There is no media feeeding frenzy.

Maybe it was not Madeleine but a lifelike doll made to look like her. Then the adults took it into a taxi to lead everyone up the garden path. Then when the dogs were brought to smell the apartment, they could then say that there couldn’t be the smell of her dead body because, at the same time, she was in a taxi on the edge of town on her way to a blue jeep with foreign numberplates.

It wasn’t dark at 8pm (sunset at about 8.30pm).

Yes, as I said, I have considered it might be true, just as Ian, but it doesn’t add up for me.

I also you in their stupidity - but it just seems totally nonsensical to somehow get an hours drive away from PDL, then get a short taxi ride, to arrive at a car outside a hotel.
But, does anyone know if there is a hospital in Monte Gordo?

Just seen this is respect of Milly Dowler
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/skynews/20080228/tuk-milly-police-get-97-new-leads-45dbed5.html
Detectives hunting the killer of schoolgirl Milly Dowler are pursuing 97 new leads as they hope for a major breakthrough in the case.
Levi Bellfield, who was this week told he would die behind bars for murdering two women and trying to kill a third, has been named as the prime suspect in the inquiry.
Officers hope some of the former doorman’s criminal associates will finally break the wall of silence that has hampered their six-year investigation.
A Surrey Police spokeswoman said some of the calls are “potentially significant” and officers are pleased with the wave of new information.
Milly Dowler, 13, disappeared while walking home from school in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, in 2002.
Police linked Bellfield to Milly’s abduction because his girlfriend lived nearby - and they are desperate to trace her car after it was captured on CCTV at the scene.
It is also believed Bellfield may have known Milly as the daughter of a former girlfriend of his once went to school with her.
Senior detectives believe Bellfield was a sexual predator who could be linked to at least 20 other violent attacks on women.
Officers have begun poring over their inquiries into the deaths of Patsy Morris in 1980 and Judith Gold in 1990.
Patsy Morris, 14, was found in undergrowth near her home in Hounslow, Middlesex, after disappearing from school.
Bellfield, who would have been aged just 12, reportedly dated her at school in Feltham.
Widow Judith Gold was discovered with serious head injuries just off Hampstead high street, in north London, in October 1990.
Bellfield was branded a coward after refusing to attend court to be sentenced - sparking calls for a change in the law so that defendants are forced to face the judge

I agree it’s unlikely. That’s why it’s not my favored scenario.
I just want to examine it fully in light of Clarrie’s half hearted denial.
BTW, I used to write on a forum for a US TV series and those ‘in denial’ of certain aspects of the storyline or likely outcomes were always referred to using various puns related to ‘the Nile’. I’m sure Anorakers can find some appropriate terms for those here who are ‘in denial’ of the few facts we have.

“But, yes, she could have been dead, with eyes open,”
I would have preferred then to send just one (or two) person(s) to get the blue jeep, while those keeping the corpse would have been covertly waiting to be picked up.
But then again, they are doctors and as such a bit odd…

Maybe the group did not check on the children as many times as they say? and felt guilty when she dissapeard, so they said that they did checks on them often. Still praying for the little girl and all of her family. Good luck on your search. xxx

How could he tell the jeep was blue at night?
And why would it be the friends in his taxi rather than anyone else? We don’t even know if they were British.
Think of the sightings ; when a big story is in the news, people want to be part of it. They see pink pyjamas and colobomas (I am not sure about the word) everywhere. It is one more of those sightings IMO.

The child ‘[...] he thought was Madeleine was awake but said nothing during the trip and stared straight ahead.
He told the Sun: “I noticed her eye because my son was born with a defect much the same. I saw her kind of twist her chin a few times in my rear-view mirror.
“I remember she was in pink pyjamas and wondered why they hadn’t dressed her.’
Her silence and staring straight ahead sounds odd. The ‘chin twisting’ was only observed thru’ the rear view mirror and could easily have been manipulation by the adult holding her.
However, I think ‘dead’ (at this stage) is probably unlikely, but mildly sedated is not. And she could probably still walk in this case. Have you ever woken a child to get off a bus and had them collapse to their knees as they literally fall asleep walking…?
