Sir Norman Bettison, Wikipedia And Celebrity Policing
SIR Norman Bettison has been described as a “greedy, vain moron”. The Mail says Bettison is favourite to succeed Sir Ian Blair as head of the Met.
As such, he may be ideally suited to the job.
But Police Review magazine says the 52-year-old chief constable of West Yorkshire is unimpressed with his Wikipedia entry, which you have already seen.
The Mail reports that “image-conscious” Sir Norman has instructed staff to make sure his Wikipedia entry is not sabotaged.
A look at the page brings up the following message:
Editing of this article by unregistered or newly registered users is currently disabled until March 14, 2008 (UTC) due to vandalism.
Were you in the area? Did you see anything suspicious. Call Mr Bettison. Unfavourable reports may be treated in the strictest secrecy and edited.
That aforesaid appraisal of Sir Norman has been erased from his online biography. A user has deleted references to Sir Norman as “a pioneer of neighbourhood policing”, saying the article had become nothing more than a “PR piece written by the chief”.
Says an insider: “He called a meeting and said he was sick and tired of people changing his Wikipedia page. He insisted staff regularly log on to see if the entry has been changed - and make sure the words he wants are put back on as soon as possible.”
Sir Norman appears very interested in his image and keen to make the biography an autobiography.
Anorak would, accordingly, like to support Sir Norman’s appointment as Chief Constable of the Met, the UK’s premier celebrity police force.
Such an event would afford Sir Norman the chance to meet with other leading lights and discuss image issues, image rights and the media as he nicks his fellwo celebrities for drugs, drink and disorderly conduct…

I agree

Well at least it brought you out of your shell, regarding Jonothon (Jonathan) Ross and his firend (friend) my spelling is marginally better than yours. Re Daily Mail, good idea, vent your spleen there, see if they think there is anything in your vindictive spiteful abuse of a man who has done more for the community that the you and your fellow whingers have.

Oh, by the way, Big Mick, when you change your name to almuloch, you need to have the intelligence to change the name of the recipient. What a clown, sending an e-mail to praise yourself then thanking yourself for sending it. As I said, what a twerp.
November 28th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
Now I know why we have Norm supporters. They cannot spell or are foul mouthed individuals which only prove one thing, they neither understand or care about society. Unfortunately this forum has been dragged down to the filth of Jonothan Ross and his firend. It is high time the moderator started to moderate. As a rsult I am not returning to Anorak. Perhaps the daily mail will be interested.

Thankyou almuloch, I think that we have won our point as the cretins have slipped back under thier stones. The silence is deafening.

I wish to be associated with the comments made by Big Mick, whilst I disagre with his use of Anglo Saxon language. I fully understand and sympathise with his feelings in the matter of Sir Norman, shortly I hope to become Lord Bettison. Sir Normans critics are unspecific in ther ranting and cannot, between them conjure up one single allegation that is capable of being examined. It is pathetic.
Well done Big Mick, keep the faith.

all gone quiet boss

What nerve do you think you have touched? No doubt you will enlighten my darkness ,as I am not familiar with the Police discipline code but suspect from earlier postings that there are plenty of Sir Normans detractors that do little else but read it I am not able to see what they have to do with the matters at issue. Are you saying that Sir Norman is in breach of the regulations, if so, no doubt you will be reporting this to the relevant authorities or the press. I am delighted to hear that your marraige has been a success and your faithfulness is laudible. To be realistic though I suspect that your wife feele sorry for you and you are ugly cunt.
Have a nice day
November 23rd, 2008 at 12:34 am
Oh! I have touched a nerve haven’t I. My comments are very clear, perhaps you are too simple to understand them. Seeing as you know all about cops, read the discipline code. Er! No I don’t envy Norm. I’m happily married and faithful to my wife. Instead of picking on me ask the cops of West Yorks their opinion of the twerp. Now I will not respond to anything else you have to say cos’ you sound like a right prat, with a little p.

I am not from Leeds or indeed West Yorkshire, your comments are barely decipherable but seem to indicate a belief that a senior police officer cannot do his job properly and maintain a sexual life of any kind. I was not aware that celibacy was a pre requisite of obtaining senior rank in a Police establishment and in view of the problems it has caused within the Roman catholic church would not think it was adviseable in the 21st century. As to your old cop young cop story what has this to do with Norman Bettison? The nonsense you spout is only notable due to the bile, envy and virulence it contains.
November 14th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
Big Mick, You seem to know all about Oluwale, so you aint no youngster, Perhaps you are from Leeds, but certainly from West Yorkshire. Now, as far as Bettison is concerned, You cannot have a man in charge who hasn’t got his mind on the game. I was talking to a cop the other day who lost his long standing partner to a Senior Cop. They now live together, but work in the same building as the young cop. The senior cop gives lectures on Integrity, Honesty and truthfulness. God help him when he tries to or confronts the young cop who is suffering from anger and depression. The sednior cop should at least be moved away. Bettison is a fine example for his senior officers to follow. Why the Head of Detectives is a serial shagger and run off with another man’s wife, having ruined quite a few other marriages. Tell me, how can the public expect 100% from cops, whom we pay through taxes, when they are running around with their trousers round their ankles most of the time.
November 12th, 2008 at 5:43 pm
So do something about it. If these “facts” are valid take it up with an investigative Journalist, John Pilger would look into it. Or an MP with an interest in Policing. Your statement that I am an ” ex Leeds City cop” is as wide of the mark as your pathetic utterances about a public figures sex life. Incidentally is your arguement that as a senior Police Officer he should only sleep with others of the same rank? The fact that you have no time for him is irrelevant, what I object to is this disgraceful personal unsubstantiated attacks on a person who, according to all the actual “evidence” has served the public well.
I again challenge all those above to look into the mirror ask themselves if they are being fair or are they as I suspect merely jealous.

Big Mick, Well you have got a reply after all. The Met were called in but offered nothing new. In fact, they didn’t stop very long. A misconception that the ‘Yard’ are wonderful, that they aren’t. Hillsborough? Bettison was involved. He was implicated with the CCTV evidence, FACT.
As for Sutcliffe, you obviously know only a little about that enquiry. The late Dick Holland did most of the donkey work on the enquiry. Unfortunately, George Oldfield, an alcoholic sop was the figure head. Most cops always believed Sutcliffe would fall through a lucky arrest and that’s what happened. DNA was not as advanced then as it is now. Actually Sutcliffe was fingered by a detective years before his arrest but Oldfield pooh poohed it.
Finally, there is no need for personal insults regarding Oluwale, but, from what I am gleening from your blogs, you’re an ex cop from Leeds City and all cops around the time of poor old Oluwale in Leeds City should hang their heads in shame.
Apart from that, Bettison is a comic. A lack of man management skills, sex with junior officers illegal number plates. Sorry, but |I have no time for him.
November 10th, 2008 at 10:30 am
Thanks for your reply hard up, I actually do know about the Sutcliffe investigation it was a catastrophe, that efficient that West Yorkshire had to bring in Metropolitan Police officers to help them. The same team were involved in the Sutcliffe debacle that were junior officers when they threw Oluwale into the river. I make no comment on his appearance other than I bet he looks better than you do.
By the way the Hillsborough disaster was absolutely nothing to do with him other than he was in the South Yorks force at the time. I suppose he could be guilty by association, like being from Liverpool and therefore a thief.
Vote for Norm
November 9th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Big Mick, This is the last time I shall waste my time replying to you. You know nothing of the investigation into Peter Sutcliffe, likewise you know nothing about the police service. As for your last comment ‘Keep at it Norm’, are you refering to his love of cross shagging, dying his hair, wearing make-up or what? I don’t see you passing comment about the poor Doran family from Liverpool or the football supporters who died in Sheffield when Norm was involved. Didn’t he claim CCTV cameras were not working when they actually were. As for making complaints, read up on the law to see which procedures have to be followed. You will be amazed as to how one always reaches a dead end.
November 7th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
Why should I come out from the anonymity of my screen none of you lot do? If you have “evidence” present it to the press or the Police Complaints Authority or whatever they call themselves. As for ruining West Yorkshire Police if my experience is anything to go by it was ruined a long time ago, by a man called Gregory and another called Oldfield. I wonder how many women Sutcliffe would have killed if he hadnt slipped up and visited Sheffield?
As for your rota, as I understand it you get as much time off as you work, if you had to earn your money in a commercial environment you would starve to death.
Keep at it Norman
November 7th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
hard up and fed up thank you form the doran family for your kind reply . i was been kind to him so he would get the big one in london so this family could show how this man harbourd our brothers killer how happend to be a police officer that has killed 3 young men in our commity in liverpool this is a fact this family have all the evid to prove it but we are been stonewall by everyone in this country all because it has been going on for years but we will get justice soon
November 1st, 2008 at 3:24 pm
Hey Up Big Mick, here you go again, change your name to Billy Bullshit ‘cos that’s what you are talking. Whilst I’m at it, I don’t see you coming out from behind the anonimity of this screen. As for me I will gladly hold an interview with any Daily paper. I still hold documents that were altered by West Yorkshire, one bears the signature of Norm.
He has no peronal management skills and overlords Senior management teams which are endemic with extra marital relationships, Senior Officers running off with the wives/girlfriends of junior officers and nothing, I repeat nothing is done about it. Still, the culprits will only claim they are copying the example of Norm. SOOooo Big Mick Like I said to you once before, shut up.
November 1st, 2008 at 1:07 pm
Given Norman’s past record on scanning the internet and attacking any negative views of himself I’m guessing Big Mick is, er, Norman.
The sooner he retires the better - the people of West Yorkshire deserve better.
October 30th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
Oh dear. Are you one of his cronies ‘Big Mick’. The man spent £7k of Public money on a DVD of himself that everyone threw in the bin. He has disrupted the lives of thousands of his officers and staff for no good reason, just to flex his muscles and change the rota to unworkable rubbish.
He has no interest what so ever in anyone but himself and he is systemmatically ruining West Yorkshire Police.
October 29th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
His private life, his integrity, his hair, and his suntan, now his car number. What a load of pathetic tosspots you are.
He has acheived more than the lot of you put together.
As you sit behind your anonymous screens poring our this vile unsubstantiated crap, look at your reflection. Be ashamed.
October 20th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Once can only hope that Sir Norm applies for the job, though he has stated categorically, he has no intention of applying (wait and see). If and when he does I shall write to Boris Johnson and tell him about the manner in which he has conducted his private life in the past re the illicit affair with his now wife. That he must have a flawed character. Do we want another suicide like the Greater Manchester Chief? In the xase of Norm Pulllllease, Norm, do it now.
October 13th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
David - spot on. He can’t be trusted. Although he says he won’t go for the Met job watch this space. He has a history of this - did it with and HMIC job and the Merseyside job. He couldn’t lie straight in bed!
October 7th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
Hey is it right that he has had an illegal number plate N.B.222 I think it was pointed out to him in 1986 that the law required and it applied to everyone that numbers and letters must not be spaced punctuated in any manner other than required under the Reg and licencing Act 1972, the number plate letters and numbers should be evenly spaced making a distinction between numbers and letters so the plate should have read NB 222

I worked with this man and recently Friday in fact 3rd October 2008 emailed the BBC and told them that he was going to take the job, of the head of the Met, he promised me so much when I worked in the South Yorkshire police and can tell you that despite his elocution he cannot speak to anyone properly still, his lessons were because he had a terrible speech problem, his favourite saying when interviewing officers for assessment would be straight out of the Bramshill guide to assessment of officers, ‘where do you see yourself in 5 years from now’? My favourite reply always was, ‘ breathing and if i knew that I would be worth a million’ he always got upset and he always looked and wanted you to carry on.
Well ‘told lad’, you certainly got your wish but one job you are never going to get now, is the head of the Met because he has shot himself in the foot, “There is far too much political …” Yep okay, He can get officers out of bed and get them taken to the police station and inform them that they are going to be reported for a discipline offence just to get a head, theres another point, because when it is pointed out that his allegsations are untrue and the officer puts in a claim for minimum of 4 hours overtime he has not the decency to say sorry or offer to take him back. My name is David Hall I was promised he would support me when he was superintendent at the traffic department, at the South Yorkshire police.

here here hard up and fed up! we’ve opened the champagne here in Leeds - watch Norman slap on his make up and hairdye and chase after Ian Blair’s job. Good news for West Yorks, bad news for London.
September 27th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
Sorry about your loss Doran family, but I can assure you, Norm would have had absolutely nothing to do with the investigation or otherwise. The CID do that work. Norm only does PR work to get his name in lights. You really ought to praise the CID only, oh, but don’t forget the uniform bobbies or the specials or the dog men or the firearems men or the canteen ladies and all the civillian workers who keep the job going. Even the Canteen ladies would have done more than Norm who would at that time have been knocking off Lady B behind his wife’s back.
