Madeleine McCann And Shannon Matthews: And Jamie Bulger
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann and Shannon Matthews
THE INDEPENDENT: “Missing: The contrasting searches for Shannon and Madeleine. Has class influenced the rewards offered and publicity given to two campaigns to find missing children? Cole Moreton goes to Dewsbury to investigate”
Shannon’s parents are not doctors. The child is not blonde, neither is the mother.
Shannon’s uncle, Neil Hyett, lives next door to her, and has had his house and garden searched. The media frenzy of last week bewildered him, but like many others in Dewsbury Moor he says he now wishes he could find a way to make it continue. “It’s all gone quiet, hasn’t it?” he said at the sparse community centre from which the leaflet and poster campaign continues to be run. “Last week, you couldn’t park for television vans. Now they’ve all been sent away on other stories.” Even The Sun’s support yesterday caused disappointment. “I’m devastated, to be honest,” said a coach driver, as others around him agreed. “That poster should have been on the front page.” It was on page 17.

SUNDAY PEOPLE: “Lost little Shannon ’snatched’”
Devastated friends and family of missing schoolgirl Shannon Matthews last night insisted the nine-year-old was snatched.
Says cousin Vicky Saunders: “Shannon’s quite a timid girl and wouldn’t like to go off on her own.
Family friend Petra Jamieson adds: “She’s the ideal daughter who behaves well. We want everyone to remember Shannon, like they do Madeleine McCann.”
THE SCOTSMAN: “Madeleine sighting in France is ruled out”
We are all looking for Madeleine McCann, and at her…
A reported sighting of Madeleine McCann in southern France has been officially ruled out. Gerry McCann revealed that French police have established that the young girl seen by a Dutch tourist in Montpellier last month was not his missing daughter. He said it was “disappointing” that it took so long for this to happen after “widespread” media reporting of the sighting.
In his latest blog, Mr McCann writes: “We did hear that the French have officially ruled out the reported sighting of Madeleine in Montpellier.”
We watch the McCanns. And we scrutinise their every word. They now even report on the case.
THE OBSERVER: “’James would be 18 now - the pain of losing him will never go away’
Fifteen years ago, the murder of toddler James Bulger by two young boys horrified Britain and inflicted deep wounds on their home city of Liverpool. In this moving interview, James’s mother Denise Fergus tells Elizabeth Day that the passing years have not diminished the pain over the loss of her son and her anger towards his killers, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables.
In the aftermath of the trial in November 1993, the Daily Star carried pictures of Venables and Thompson underneath the headline ‘How do you feel now you little bastards?’
Denise Fergus still cannot bring herself to walk near the Walton railway line… It has been 15 years since the murder of her son James Bulger on this stretch of track; 15 years since he was beaten to death by two killers who were themselves children.
The pain of losing him will never go away. But there’s so much more in my life that I determined long ago not to be a victim any more. I don’t let things hurt me so easily as I once did. Like it was hurtful when the papers called him “Jamie”. That was never his name. It was like a strange label they invented to sum him up in one word. It’s the same now with Madeleine McCann. The papers call her “Maddy”.

Jersey is very Parochial , the President, Frank Walker, used to own a video
production co. My son worked there and really learned his craft, the Videos were
mainly Corporate. To give you an example, at one time the local Fishmonger
was in charge of Tourism and the Head of the Legal system was so p….d one
night he nicked a Police Car to drive himself home!!!!!!!! I would say the Jersey
Government is squirming with all this adverse publicity…. how come everyone
is coming forward now? Wouldn”t you think someone would have listened ,
believed , and acted sooner? On the news this am one of those who have come
forward has been intimidated by a former care worker.

By the way to all mothers out there, hope you have a wonderfull mothers day,

119,Matt,….not sure about the papers, But after the vast police presence and I mean vast, there just seems to be nothing (well yesterday anyway when I passed).
I am not having a go at the police, just seemed so quiet,in truth a bit ghostly, maybe a calm after the storm,or maybe they are on to something who knows?
dreading easter though especially living near to dewsbury, you know the CRUCIFIXION thingy……….lol.

I could see RR was upset and did not wish to intrude, but to start again this morning was too much for me, that”s why I spoke out. Perhaps you fail to realise
that there are other posters like me who would maybe want a chat, discussion, but feel as if we are intruding.
Anyway, enough said, I”m glad you are not taking offence. You should have been here yesterday afternoon, mostly females, but we had a great time.

The police will still be working re the case…even if more unobstrusive.
Not many Media hacks about I bet.
Is the local paper still focusing on the search for Shannon ?

Good afternoon, val.
Am just fine here, thank you.
Morals do seem to change when lots of money is involved.
But nothing illegal, seemingly, in tax avoidance.
Considering the shakiness evident in G Brown re the non-doms…..don’t
expect any changes soon.
I wonder how high up this scandal in Jersey goes.

Passing Through Dewsbury Yesterday,Hardly saw any police presence, seems to have died down quickly? not much movement at all,

Hi, how are you?
I did mention months ago that I lived in Jersey for several years and worked
as a “Company & Trust Administrator” , looking after all these greedy b…..s
assets. I was always too moral for the job, but you have to blame the U.K.
Government for creating these tax loopholes. did you know that the whole of
Arsenal Football team(I”m not giving anything away, there was a Panorama
documentary about it) have their wages paid into a Jersey Bank under an
“employees benevolent fund” or something. Philip Green does not pay U.K. tax
because all his assets are in his wife”s name , she lives in Monte Carlo or Monaco
where there is no taxation. Meanwhile, Joe Bloggs is taxed at source, makes
you sick.

Good afternoon everybody and happy mothers day to all mothers and grandmothers here today.
I think the media have made it quite clear that in order to have continuing headline coverage of a missing child, the missing child must have parents of high profile, live in a des-res in a wealthy area.
Any criteria below this, it appears, is not very newsworthy. That is the hypocrisy of our media. Add to this the support of some millionaires and famous sport stars then headline coverage is guaranteed. Irritating and sickening isn’t it?
With regards the headline when Jamie Bulgers killers were caught “how do you feel now you little bastards” I wonder if there will be similar headlines when K and G are brought to account.
I see that the Sunday Express carries an old sighting from June 2007 of Madeleine McC being in a buggy on a bus. If that is the case then I must see at least half a dozen sightings on a daily basis on my travels.
Still it gives people their five minutes of glory does’nt it?

That’s okay. I can take criticism and you are entitled to your opinion. However, if you read last nights posts RR was quite upset and it wasn’t just me he was chatting with. I understand what you’re saying though and will take note.

I was browsing last night and the two of you were at it so I didn”t want to
interrupt. Today, you are again “billing and cooing”.!!!!! No disrespect but there is
a time and place for everything, this is not the time or the place. Why don”t you
e-mail each other instead of using this Forum?
I”m not usually so blunt, but hope you will accept the criticism.
