Madeleine McCann And Shannon Matthews: And Jamie Bulger
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann and Shannon Matthews
THE INDEPENDENT: “Missing: The contrasting searches for Shannon and Madeleine. Has class influenced the rewards offered and publicity given to two campaigns to find missing children? Cole Moreton goes to Dewsbury to investigate”
Shannon’s parents are not doctors. The child is not blonde, neither is the mother.
Shannon’s uncle, Neil Hyett, lives next door to her, and has had his house and garden searched. The media frenzy of last week bewildered him, but like many others in Dewsbury Moor he says he now wishes he could find a way to make it continue. “It’s all gone quiet, hasn’t it?” he said at the sparse community centre from which the leaflet and poster campaign continues to be run. “Last week, you couldn’t park for television vans. Now they’ve all been sent away on other stories.” Even The Sun’s support yesterday caused disappointment. “I’m devastated, to be honest,” said a coach driver, as others around him agreed. “That poster should have been on the front page.” It was on page 17.

Shannon Matthews

SUNDAY PEOPLE: “Lost little Shannon ’snatched’”
Devastated friends and family of missing schoolgirl Shannon Matthews last night insisted the nine-year-old was snatched.
Says cousin Vicky Saunders: “Shannon’s quite a timid girl and wouldn’t like to go off on her own.
Family friend Petra Jamieson adds: “She’s the ideal daughter who behaves well. We want everyone to remember Shannon, like they do Madeleine McCann.”
THE SCOTSMAN: “Madeleine sighting in France is ruled out”
We are all looking for Madeleine McCann, and at her…
A reported sighting of Madeleine McCann in southern France has been officially ruled out. Gerry McCann revealed that French police have established that the young girl seen by a Dutch tourist in Montpellier last month was not his missing daughter. He said it was “disappointing” that it took so long for this to happen after “widespread” media reporting of the sighting.
In his latest blog, Mr McCann writes: “We did hear that the French have officially ruled out the reported sighting of Madeleine in Montpellier.”
We watch the McCanns. And we scrutinise their every word. They now even report on the case.
THE OBSERVER: “’James would be 18 now - the pain of losing him will never go away’
Fifteen years ago, the murder of toddler James Bulger by two young boys horrified Britain and inflicted deep wounds on their home city of Liverpool. In this moving interview, James’s mother Denise Fergus tells Elizabeth Day that the passing years have not diminished the pain over the loss of her son and her anger towards his killers, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables.
In the aftermath of the trial in November 1993, the Daily Star carried pictures of Venables and Thompson underneath the headline ‘How do you feel now you little bastards?’
Denise Fergus still cannot bring herself to walk near the Walton railway line… It has been 15 years since the murder of her son James Bulger on this stretch of track; 15 years since he was beaten to death by two killers who were themselves children.
The pain of losing him will never go away. But there’s so much more in my life that I determined long ago not to be a victim any more. I don’t let things hurt me so easily as I once did. Like it was hurtful when the papers called him “Jamie”. That was never his name. It was like a strange label they invented to sum him up in one word. It’s the same now with Madeleine McCann. The papers call her “Maddy”.

Plenty of “fudges” in the ensuing enquiry in the N Wales scandal.
They seem to have many friends in High Places.

Jo, thats ok, Rona married me because she said I looked like a rock star and she still thinks I do, my kids humour and tolerate me, they think it’s a gas that Dad’s hair is longer and more wavy than Mum’s. They do like my sort of music though and Rona is a Babe, so I aint got anything to complain about. Wish I could say the same about Madeleine.

Yesterday night it was late when we came home. So we’re just getting awake, drinking a cup of coffee and soon we’ll go for a walk with puppy.
I love your post [as well as Marie Nicholas].
Gandy never offended me and often amuses me with his choice of music.
So for all of you to enjoy, while waiting for the police to solve the crimes and book the criminals :

Hello everyone!
Been outside in the stinking heat, mowing lawn ,washing down patio, etc.
Came inside coz I was starrrving, and now I’m sitting here having a read!
I need to add my bit here (and I risk going into moderation permanently because of what I say).
We are all attracted to the Madeleine threads for one reason only - we want to find out the truth and get justice for her. I don’t think it really matters what side of the fence we’re sitting on, there is that one goal in all of our minds. It does NOT matter whether we support the McCann’s or not, Madeleine’s honour is the ultimate objective here (and she deserves that at the least).
While we’re here, other stories pop up, which we start to discuss as well (one of those which is top of my agenda at the moment is Shannon - the child from a not so well off background, who appears to be forgotten already - disgusting and shameful I say).
However, no matter what you say, it can only be said so often, and until there’s any further developments regarding Madeleine or Shannon, there is not much more to be said on a thread such as this.
I admire Ian for banging on all the time about the child neglect, but I have to say that I don’t think that any ONE poster on this forum is unaware of that or the dreadful results that it had.
Gandy was one of my pet hates on this forum, until yesterday - when I realised that he is actually human, and not descendant from a far off forgotten planet! That is why I am rather disappointed that he was slapped over the wrist for telling a joke this morning - I find it unfair and uncalled for, and don’t quite see the reasoning behind it. We were all chatting yesterday about all sorts of things, yet we weren’t politely told to stop? - to me, it keeps the thread going when there is little news to discuss. All I have to say is THANK YOU Gandy for amusing me yesterday and bringing back memories with your jokes and music.
And if I do get banished to the outer edges of Anorak for expressing my disappointment, then so be it, yesterday made it all worth while!
*****************
MODS AND ADMIN
Julie,
Gandy hasn’t been ’slapped over the wrist’, nor was he asked to stop yesterday, any more than anyone else was - it was a gentle reminder that there is a time and place for everything - there is a joke thread in the forum where he will be very welcome - in the meanwhile, and owing to the kind generosity of Old Mr Anorak, who is, after all, paying for this bandwidth, we will try to keep this thread free for those who still wish to debate on the news items posted this morning.
It is sometimes forgotten that there are many threads on Anorak, the Madeleine thread isn’t a catch-all dating, joker’s corner, general angst thread.

Marie Nicholas, thank you kindly for that. I try to go through life not frightening the horses and being respectful of other people, and their views and life styles.
The net has unleashed the power or the cloak of anonymity for all, it is good and bad depending on how you use it. I have said a lot of tongue in cheek things here, that come across the wrong way, but in reality it was never, and never has been my intention to offend anyone.
We are a long time dead, so I for one am going to enjoy the ride, while I can, a shroud has no pockets.
