Madeleine McCann And Shannon Matthews: Pets And Parents, The Sun Raises And A Disco
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann and Shannon Matthews
DAILY MIRROR: “McCanns diver fury”
Always “fury”.
Kate and Gerry McCann reacted with fury yesterday after divers began a second search of a reservoir for Madeleine’s body.
The couple told friends the search - funded by a Portuguese lawyer who they claim is a “fantasist” seeking publicity - is a distraction from the hunt.
Marcos Aragao Correia claims crime contacts told him she was killed and left in the lake two days after going missing.
Says a McCann “source”: “There’s no evidence Madeleine is in that reservoir. They believe she is alive and are concentrating on finding her.”
IRISH INDEPENDENT: “Divers search remote Algarve lake for Maddy.”
Says Mr Aragao: “If I was Madeleine’s parents, I’d want to be helped. It may not be the outcome they want if I find Madeleine, but it’s important for them that they find out what happened to her and recover her body if she is dead. There may be genetic evidence on the corpse that could help the police discover who killed her.”
Indeed. Any more clues? Can the paper help?
A Portuguese lorry driver told Metodo 3 he saw the German girlfriend of Madeleine suspect Robert Murat handing over a child in a blanket to a mystery man in Silves, a five-minute drive from the reservoir, on May 5 last year.
Michaela Walczuch has claimed she is being framed to protect the McCanns and denied any involvement in their daughter’s disappearance. She has never been made an official suspect and has only ever been quizzed as a witness.
So why mention it?
THE SUN: “Stepfather is innocent says Shannon’s dad”
A picture of Craig Meehan, Shannon’s stepfather
Says he: “I’ve never hit Karen (Shannon’s mother) or any of the children. We play about, as you do, but have a brilliant relationship.”
Says Shannon’s father Leon Rose: “I don’t believe it. “I’m horrified anyone would suggest that. They got on really well. I was not around for some years and he has been a real dad to her. If there had been any problems I am sure she would have told me.”
What of mum? “Karen, meanwhile, has told how Shannon’s pet dog Scania is pining for her. She said: ‘Scania won’t keep still.’”
Watching the parents. Watching the family. Watching the pets.
DAILY MIRROR: “I’VE TOLD THE KIDS SHANNON’S GONE AWAY ON HOLIDAY.”
A friend said: “Every time little Courtney sees a picture of Shannon in the paper or on the TV she points at it and says her sister’s name. Karen can’t bear the thought of telling her Shannon has disappeared so she has said she’s on holiday. “She has got so much to worry about already that she just can’t risk upsetting Courtney.”
Watching the parents. Watching the family. Watching the children.
Yesterday, Karen tried going in to Shannon’s bedroom for the first time since the nine-year-old went missing three weeks ago after a school swimming trip in Dewsbury, West Yorks. But she was overcome with emotion.
We are watching the parents. Watching the family. Looking through windows. Looking through walls.
An anonymous donor has given £10,000 to the appeal to find her.
DAILY EXPRESS: “SHANNON REWARD INCREASED TO £50,000”
The Sun has up its reward from £20,000 - to £50,000. But if a reward of £2.5million has not been not enough to find Madeleine McCann, what good is $50,000?
How is the reward amount set? Is consideration given to the victim’s social status, the competition for headlines, exchange rates?
Leon Rose, Shannon’s father: “No-one can imagine the agonies we are going through. She is a wonderful daughter and we need her home. We are desperate to have her back and we thank The Sun for helping.”
An offer from the heart? Or a hollow offer, a PR-induced offer to get the Sun mentioned?
DEWSBURY REPORTER: “SHANNON MATTHEWS LATEST”
4.07pm - A family disco is being held to raise funds for the Shannon Matthews appeal. It will be on Thursday March 13 from 7pm to 10pm at Staincliffe Cricket Club.
A disco for a missing child. Her face at the disco. Her face on the wall.
2.23pm - A sponsored walk to raise money for the Shannon Matthews appeal has been announced. It will begin at 6pm tomorrow (Tuesday) at Moorside Road.

Thanks for the clarifiction. Would that be Mansfield House police station?
SteveT
No I’ve not spent all day, it was mainly a case of going on the Leics police website. If someone claims to have insider contacts and posts information in the public domain about an ongoing investigation (based on what those contacts are supposed to have told him) then that person is under a heavy duty to ensure their information is accurate, for many obvious reasons.

just-me Huge apologies for being boring everybody. Been a long time since I was accused of soliciting sex and have never been threatened with harpoons before. Just needed to see how far he would go before the mods blocked him coz I think he’s a dangerous personality to be on here.

GANDOLF you half-wit! Will you go and drain the pus from your scabby legs or you won’t have any dripping to put on your bread!
I am only having fun. I think you are behaving violently and I may have to get a spokesperson like CM to stand up to you on my behalf because I am only a little f*ckwit and I am feeling threatened. You can’t beat me with wit so you resort to violent fantasies.
Why not make an appointment with your doctor? Tell him that you are threatening somebody who has two cadaver-cats. You Knob-headed half-wit.

A WEBSITE for the Shannon Matthews Appeal will be officially launched tonight at a sponsored walk to mark three weeks since Shannon went missing.
Money raised by the sponsored walk, which will set off from Moorside Community House at 6pm, will go to the appeal to help support the search for the missing nine-year-old.
It will cover the cost of printing more leaflets, holding public meetings and generating publicity.
On Thursday a family disco will also be held in aid of the appeal at Staincliffe Cricket and WMC on Halifax Road, Staincliffe.
The website, http://www.helpfindshannon.org.uk, went live today and features a description of Shannon, updates on the police investigation and details of how to support the appeal.
It was organised by Dewsbury West Pathfinder, registered charity Voluntary Action Kirklees and Leeds-based web design company No Worries, which designed the site for free.
For more details visit http://www.helpfindshannon.org.uk.

Good afternoon Matt,
Just browsing 3A and found this……… thought because Madeleine went missing in
May, before the new Law in September, it didn”t apply to her case. No news on the
I had copied this earlier on from the first main maddie thread as I was confused about it all. I believe the arguido thingy is separate and will be decided separately.
‘THE PROCESS WILL BE IN SECRECY FOR MORE NINE MORE MONTHS
The process of the disappearance of Maddie will never be public before 15th September this year, one year after the entry into force of the new Code of Criminal Procedure, discovered the CM. The decision was taken by order of the Judge Pedro Frias, on the 18th of September of 2007, considering that the maintenance of the secrecy of justice , for one year, was imposed by the rules that emerged from the changes in the law. The judge considered that the deadlines only started to run from the entry into force of the new code, a position that although is not new is far away of being peaceful.
The judge’s decision cannot be appealed.’

Scarlett,
Have you spent all day investigating a police station! The PJ are coming over whatever you find out about it.
March 11th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
just_me: You have done yourself proud! You have captured their very ‘essence’! lol Make these your own because they may end up as a back-drop on News at Ten lol and you could get paid for a change instead of the Clan.

I have no idea who coldwater is. Charles Street Station has been moved, to the end of Charles Street, and is really in Belgrave Gate. I have been told that locals still refer to it as Charles Street. I don’t know if this helps with your ’subtle’ question?
March 11th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
No Charles Street nick on here:

Me neither, by the way!

GANDOLF: Does this mean you concede defeat then? I have just had a look at my arse and there is not a harpoon in it. I think this type of cyber-space stuff you get up to only works if everybody is on acid or on mushrooms.
Meet you on Hampstead Heath any night of the week for a surprise disappearing act starring Gandolf the Half-wit and Coco the Fu*kwit. Will bring the cadaver-cats so that you know they exist

It depends what they are claiming the Express actually said.
Its humerous that they want an out of court settlement isnt it. If I were the Express I’d take it to court! It would be marvellous!
March 11th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
Maybe the mc should take money from the fund to pay the fianza of poor Antonio Jiménez (translation for fianza, pls???, you know what I mean, money to be temporarily released from prison…)
March 11th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
coco, I can’t my harpoon is firmly in your arse, and the other six were blunted by your acerbic wit.
March 11th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
What the fuck is Petardo 3 doing these days? Anybody knows? W T F are they going to do the coming months? Looking for dodgy Moroccan people for them to earn some euros telling bollocks? Can we expect new sightings, new failed kidnappings of British children, new creepy men?
Oh, no, no… PJ is coming. The puppet show is over

An excellent post - I liked the succinct descripotion of the McCanns. Caught it in a nutshell.
March 11th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
The half-wits have disappeared at the same time again.
I have just rung CM’s office for a giggle and offered them my two cadaver-cats for free and they were polite but would not take my telephone numbers for future reference.
The two cadaver-cats have both got passports and are used to going abroad for up to a month at a time - and they are used to air-travel.
Why will the Clan not accept genuine offers to help? I am a truly baffled little f*ckwit here with nobody to turn to.
March 11th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
‘Scuse me, I’m no lawyer (or studying to be one
), but how can they push for a libel settlement if there is no conclusion in the case yet

Why do you support the two ‘parental’ suspects in the Madeleine case? Do you think they didnt kill their daughter and dispose of her body?

“There is a massive amount of resources committed here. It is a huge operation.”
Chief Inspector Graham Armitage, of West Yorkshire Police, to the BBC.
There are police officers, and police forces, such as are presently to be found in West Yorkshire and Jersey, who, when confronted with missing, abused, oppressed and ‘disappeared’ children, will grimly set their faces to the wind, and leave no stone unturned, to find the missing, to give comfort to the abused, to show respect to the oppressed, and to find and prosecute the perpetrators of the crimes.
And then there are Leicestershire police officers, and the Leicestershire Constabulary, who for long months have steadfastly declined to investigate parents who departed their county in the company of their three children, and who later returned, in a blaze of publicity, with but two. Parents who have boldly, repeatedly and contemptuously admitted that their child is missing as a result of their own serial neglect and abandonment.
We owe respect to the living; to the dead we owe only truth.
