Shannon Matthews: Ripper Yarn And Not In McCanns’ Class
SHANNON Watch: Anorak’s look at Shannon Matthews in the media
DAILY MIRROR: “Hunt for Shannon Matthews is the biggest since the Yorkshire Ripper”
Is it?
The search is the biggest since the one for Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe who murdered 13 women in the 70s and 80s.
DAILY STAR (front page): “SHANNON: BIGGEST MANHUNT SINCE RIPPER”
DAILY EXPRESS: “SHANNON: HUNT IS ON SCALE OF RIPPER”
Chief Inspector Graham Armitage said: “It’s certainly the biggest missing persons inquiry since the Yorkshire Ripper, which I also worked on.”
Ripper. Ripper. Ripper. Is this a new context to place the disappearance of a child in? Is comparison with Madeleine McCann no longer apt?
DAILY MAIL: “Someone I know abducted missing Shannon just to hurt me, says mother”
Her comments came as her partner drew a sharp line between Shannon’s family and the parents of missing Madeleine McCann.
Craig Meehan, said: “It’s two families from two different backgrounds which shouldn’t really get compared - basically, a poor family and a rich family.”
Mr Meehan, 22, went on: “To me, they [the McCanns] are like celebrities in other people’s eyes. They’ve got money, they know celebrities and all that, so they can afford to do everything they do, everything they can.
“We’re trying to do what we can with the money we’ve got, with the resources we’ve got.”
It’s the biggest manhunt since The Yorkshire Ripper. Or is a private detective firm now also required?
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Shannon Matthews ‘abducted to hurt mother’”
Asked if she thought the abductor was someone she knew, Mrs Matthews, a mother of seven, said: “It seems that way because there’s no trace of her at all. There’s no trace of her swimming costume, her towel or anything like that that she’s taken with her.”
Mrs Matthews told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme she believed the reason someone had taken her daughter was to get at her.
Asked why someone would do it, Mrs Matthews replied: “Just to hurt me, really.”
When pressed on who might be behind the abduction, she said: “No idea at all. All my friends and family have all been checked and there are no sightings of her things there at all.”

You seem to forget that the Brits cops were also on the field.
Good to point the finger only to the P.J.

The letter I have is from an MP who I think would not miss an opportunity to criticise Gordon Brown if critiscism were justified. The letter leaves me with the impression that things are very much moving ahead in some shape or form. So something is going on but we don’t know what.
Where do you think Mr Murat comes in to all this?

121 Val - i take your points. But…
On the BBC being a respected TV channel… well… let’s say I reserve my judgement until we see the conclusion of this case. In the meantime however I would remind you that the BBC is a former employer of Mr Mitchell. It was also the BBC - through its Panorama producer - that has allegedly paid the McCanns camp for footage of their lives just days after Madeleine disappeared. The BBC then went on to broadcast a Panorama programme about the McCanns (not about Madeleine) taking entertainment and reality-television into sad a new dimension.
Regarding the DNA evidence there’s been vast speculation… but I will repeat the point I made yesterday. The Head of the PJ said that the results were NOT CONCLUSIVE. You can interpret this has - not conclusive that Madeleine is dead or Conclusive that Madeleine is dead but Not Conclusive of how she died and who killed her.
The position of the PJ that I saw about the interviews seems straightforward enough. They have requested the british authorities to carry out these interviews and have stated upfront that until all these interviews are carried out there will be no progress in the investigation. You can make your mind up as to where are the obstacles and delays for the interviews.
Gonçalo Amaral was able to illustrate this very well with his statement that british authorities only investigate what the McCanns want them to investigate…

116 can”t say no
Good Morning,
At the end of the day, who really knows what”s happening. The PJ has received World
Wide attention , so in addition to the expense, would not want to be seen as incompetent. therefore, they have to tread very carefully because of the McCanns
powerful supporters. We will only know how strong their evidence is after the
interviews take place, if they do.!!!!!!

Together with Princess Diana and the weather, the case of missing toddler Madeleine McCann has been one of the Daily Express’s most popular recurring stories. But no longer, it seems.
Following the threat of legal action from Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry over what their spokesman Clarence Mitchell described as a series of “wildly and grossly defamatory” articles, the paper, together with its Express Newspapers stablemates the Sunday Express, the Daily Star and Daily Star Sunday, has removed all references to the missing girl from its website search engine.
The Daily Express - the most prolific paper in covering the McCann case - has also notably toned down its print coverage over the past few weeks. The paper has not splashed on Madeleine McCann for well over a fortnight. Prior to that, she was regularly the lead story.
It is thought the threat of legal action by the McCanns has forced the Express Newspapers titles to scale back their coverage.
Mitchell confirmed to MediaGuardian.co.uk last week that the McCanns had instructed leading libel law firm Carter-Ruck to push for a settlement with Express Newspapers, although he dismissed as “wildly speculative” reports that the couple wanted £4m.
Readers searching for stories on Madeleine on both the Daily Express and Daily Star websites will struggle to find any mention, with both sites reporting zero articles on their search services despite publishing hundreds since she disappeared in Portugal in May last year.
Despite the removal of references to Madeleine, she remains one of the most popular online search requests among both titles’ readers, taking up five of the top nine searches listed on the Express website, including the top three. Princess Diana comes fourth.
On the Daily Star’s website, four of the 15 top searches listed are about Madeleine.
A spokesman for Express Newspapers declined to comment on the removal of the articles from the company’s websites.
An email from the Daily Express online editor, Geoff Marsh, quoted on the website anorak.co.uk, said: “For operational reasons, some articles previously available on express.co.uk have been temporarily removed. I’m afraid I can’t go into any more detail.”
Carter-Ruck partner Adam Tudor, who is representing the McCanns, told MediaGuardian.co.uk last week that the complaints against Express Newspapers were ongoing.
However, it is thought the case could be settled imminently.

You can find a posting of CW in the t3a-thread where he claims that his leaks have a purpose.
You will also find a posting where he claims that a certain old story was a “red herring”, deliberately planted by the police.
So either he is only boasting and making it all up.
If not, it would mean that there are red herrings serverd for purposes. So his stories may also be red herrings for a purpose.

Just read once CW post
Don’t know what moves that person
But do you want people to believe ,that bothe the P.J. and the Brits police are working in this case as “NO abduction” only for fun ??
That’s naive , to say the least

They said if Kate killed her by accident she would get 2 years.
Also if you break the law of blabbing what is said to you in a pj interview you could get 2 years.
It might just be easier to do the latter to save face and leave the other case open.
Trouble is Gerry will get of scott free.

I was just thinking we asume the pj are questioning them about her death etc…..
Maybe they are, or maybe its about neglect, and the law that Kate and Philomena broke by telling all and sundry about what was said in the interviews, the ‘deal’ etc…
How many lesser charges are there?

That is the first time I knew of such a detailed report on “cause of death”, and if the
BBC did broadcast it, it is significant because the BBC is a respected T.V. Channel.
However, even if true, the McCann Lawyers would pounce on DNA evidence as being
inconclusive. It also doesn”t explain how the DNA was found in the car when it was
apparently hired by the McCanns 25 days after Madeleine”s disappearance.
I cannot understand the delay in the re-interviewing, if it is because of the Home Office
interfering, I think it”s disgraceful!!!!!
We are all speculating and will just have to wait and see, but I can do without all these
DEFINITE imminent arrivals of the Portugese Detectives, the ups and downs are too
much!

What makes you think that the request for Mutual legal assistance submitted via EuroJust and that contained the request for interviewing a number of british citizens + the presence of PJ detectives in the interviews, was not accepted by british authorities?
Only last week there was a cop from the UK meeting the detectives in the Algarve (allegedly to finalise the details)?

Ferdinand: In this case, the interviews were not carried out last year because the pj are not in a rush to close the investigation earlier than they have to (in the hope that new evidence may arise - eg body or new statement).

The cost of the ‘cover up’ is being paid by Portuguese & British taxpayers. PJ’s costs alone are close to £1.5 m euros and the British Government, at taxpayers expense, is delaying Police procedures, specifically with Rogatory letters

I read earlier this week that
- 14 people were included in the list for interviews (not clear if Kate and Gerry McCann were included at the end of the 14 list or not)
- For each interview to be carried out the PJ detailed questions, time and date of the interview
Allegedly only once these 12 or 14 interviews are carried out, will the investigators decide if Kate and Gerry McCann should be re-interviewed.

I’m not saying the PJs are not going to the UK.
Yes, apparently they are and it was part of the request for Mutual Assistance. In fact yesterday I think they confirmed that they were travelling to the UK and they could stay there for a period of up to two months working with British authorities.
What i’m saying is that the request for Mutual Assistance is designed to have the british authorities carrying out the interviews (that’s the main purpose).
