Shannon Matthews: Ripper Yarn And Not In McCanns’ Class
SHANNON Watch: Anorak’s look at Shannon Matthews in the media
DAILY MIRROR: “Hunt for Shannon Matthews is the biggest since the Yorkshire Ripper”
Is it?
The search is the biggest since the one for Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe who murdered 13 women in the 70s and 80s.
DAILY STAR (front page): “SHANNON: BIGGEST MANHUNT SINCE RIPPER”
DAILY EXPRESS: “SHANNON: HUNT IS ON SCALE OF RIPPER”
Chief Inspector Graham Armitage said: “It’s certainly the biggest missing persons inquiry since the Yorkshire Ripper, which I also worked on.”
Ripper. Ripper. Ripper. Is this a new context to place the disappearance of a child in? Is comparison with Madeleine McCann no longer apt?
DAILY MAIL: “Someone I know abducted missing Shannon just to hurt me, says mother”
Her comments came as her partner drew a sharp line between Shannon’s family and the parents of missing Madeleine McCann.
Craig Meehan, said: “It’s two families from two different backgrounds which shouldn’t really get compared - basically, a poor family and a rich family.”
Mr Meehan, 22, went on: “To me, they [the McCanns] are like celebrities in other people’s eyes. They’ve got money, they know celebrities and all that, so they can afford to do everything they do, everything they can.
“We’re trying to do what we can with the money we’ve got, with the resources we’ve got.”
It’s the biggest manhunt since The Yorkshire Ripper. Or is a private detective firm now also required?
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Shannon Matthews ‘abducted to hurt mother’”
Asked if she thought the abductor was someone she knew, Mrs Matthews, a mother of seven, said: “It seems that way because there’s no trace of her at all. There’s no trace of her swimming costume, her towel or anything like that that she’s taken with her.”
Mrs Matthews told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme she believed the reason someone had taken her daughter was to get at her.
Asked why someone would do it, Mrs Matthews replied: “Just to hurt me, really.”
When pressed on who might be behind the abduction, she said: “No idea at all. All my friends and family have all been checked and there are no sightings of her things there at all.”

Just making sure that we aren’t all tarred with the McCann brush, besides, they are Irish and ’scousers’ who are originally Irish anyway!
I’m English with Scots and Cornish and Scandinavian blood, as far as I know, not a shamrock in sight!

Hang on!
I realaise the content of today’s news precis is predominantly about Shannon Matthews, but the thread I clicked on is clearly ‘Madeleine McCann’ so, if you follow that thread logically, it’s SM usurping the MM thread.
Personally, I don’t mind if they are combined (and Scarlett Keeting, too) as there are links.
Or separated.
But, CSN, please do not go. Your posts are important to me.

Maybe a generic thread, devoted to lost children? Neither Shannon or Madeleine devoted?
To have a Shannon and a Madeleine Thread is probably never going to work as people are linking them whatever you might do.
Mods and Admin
We actually report and comment on the news,Ian. Perhaps if you looked at other threads and all of the forums that is our raison d’etre. A satirical take on the news. Did you know that it was Budget day today , not just 300 +days since Maddie went missing. Anorak has been around for 12 to 13 years, not the 10months or so since events in Portugal.

Actually I remain proud to be British/English. Because I am British/English, with the principles that are supposed to be associated with being British/English - old and unfashionable principles - but not those of the ‘higher echelons’.

23 Ian Says:
Why is there no Shannon thread?
+++++++++++++++++++++
Excellent point, Ian
This article on Anorak is primarily about the missing schoolgirl Shannon, and the first few comments to this thread recognised that fact. It was not long, however, before the discussion switched to Maddeleine McCann. Look back at the posts and see.
The real question is why do so many contributors to Opinions insist in bringing Maddeleine into every thread. There is already an ongoing thread devoted to Madeleine. Why usurp one that Anorak started designed to focus attention on Shannon?

Why is Madeleine being linked by Anorak to Madeleine?
What have they actually got in common?
OK, both involve a child missing, so why is the thread not called ‘Missing Children’?
March 12th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
yes ,everything they find gos directly to M3 i also saw a spanish woman that belongs to that “staff”

They will NOT find
even a rock they brought up
The police knows what hapened
The dam like the sightings are all part of 1 pattern
We have experts from all kind of fields stuing this case

CSN
Can you explain more?
Yes, they have found socks (separate ones, I hear), and rope, but nothing yet that is indicative of a crime.
IF they were to find a body, or bones or whatever, are you saying that the searchers would report only to M3?
Is this just another M3 / McC distraction, but being sold as ‘fury’?
March 12th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
The portuguese lawyer and the staff that is working with him at the dam, gave 1 interview to RTP1 tonight.
Everything they find their will go directly to M3 and not to the police
What a laugh
And the mcconns say they are furious ??
This story ,is really surreal
Almost all the dirt is connected to them
Proud to be British ?
Don’t think

There has been some odd speculation on this forum, so I am going to throw into the mix the thoughts of my son, expressed to me very early on in Madeleine’s disappearance:
” When she first disapeared I knew she would be in the news for a year because I got off a bus in Bethnal Green at a bus stop next to an opticians, where her picture was in the window, with the words “LOOK INTO HER EYES” written above it. I thought to myself, why? I’m not going to recognise her or be able to do anything. She didn’t go missing in this country and she’s not from Bethnal Green.
I also thought the EYE is one of the symbols of the global elite (the all seeing eye, that is shown above the pryamid, on the US $1 bill, and many other places). The “Look into her eyes” comment, along with the fact it was an opticians, made me think that this was an event orchestrated by the global elite, who David Icke maintains are child abusers and into child sacrifice.
Their ideal candidate would be blue eyed and blond haired. I recalled that in some ancient cultures, human sacrifice was the norm, and that the person being sacrificed would be paraded around the city for a year before the event took place.
The idea behind this was that every person in the city MUST KNOW who the sacrifice is. They wanted the person to be in the psyche of the population as this added more energy to the sacrifice. The person would also know they were going to be sacrificed (in some cultures this was an honor).
I have also heard that the reason the sacrificed person would know they were going to be in a ritual sacrifice, was to make sure they were full of fear and all the hormones this brings out, so their blood could be drunk.
Anyway, the whole coverage of Madeleine’s disappearance was totally different from the very start. It was impossible not to know and not to see her picture. I could tell it was propaganda, and I am still certain that there are very high powered people involved, state, police, religious, political and media.
I would imagine their plan is to find her dead, but announce she was killed prior to the discovery, and then let it be known she was alive for the full year, which I would also guess will be around 6 weeks longer. ”
Yes, bizzarre! But if there is any truth in this angle, there will only be six weeks to wait -
unless a miracle can save Madeleine from such a terrible fate, assuming she has not already met her end.
March 12th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Sorry, I should have said ‘inference’ rather than ‘implication’.
March 12th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
‘It’s the biggest manhunt since the Yorkshire Ripper’.
As the only common ground between the hunts for Ripper and Shannon Matthews is Yorkshire, perhaps the implication is that it’s the biggest (ie most police involvement) in Yorkshire using Yorkshire’s officers since the Ripper investigation.
March 12th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
The Yorkshire Ripper was never a missing persons case so I don’t quite get the comparision - the Holly And Jessica case got far more coverage in 2002 as did the Suzy Lamplugh case in 1986 IMO.
M and A
Think they are referring to Police coverage, not Media
March 12th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
14 - Indeed.
March 12th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
The longer the search goes on, the less likely poor Shannon will be found alive, I just hope there is some kind of closure.
