Shannon Matthews: Ripper Yarn And Not In McCanns’ Class
SHANNON Watch: Anorak’s look at Shannon Matthews in the media
DAILY MIRROR: “Hunt for Shannon Matthews is the biggest since the Yorkshire Ripper”
Is it?
The search is the biggest since the one for Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe who murdered 13 women in the 70s and 80s.
DAILY STAR (front page): “SHANNON: BIGGEST MANHUNT SINCE RIPPER”
DAILY EXPRESS: “SHANNON: HUNT IS ON SCALE OF RIPPER”
Chief Inspector Graham Armitage said: “It’s certainly the biggest missing persons inquiry since the Yorkshire Ripper, which I also worked on.”
Ripper. Ripper. Ripper. Is this a new context to place the disappearance of a child in? Is comparison with Madeleine McCann no longer apt?
DAILY MAIL: “Someone I know abducted missing Shannon just to hurt me, says mother”
Her comments came as her partner drew a sharp line between Shannon’s family and the parents of missing Madeleine McCann.
Craig Meehan, said: “It’s two families from two different backgrounds which shouldn’t really get compared - basically, a poor family and a rich family.”
Mr Meehan, 22, went on: “To me, they [the McCanns] are like celebrities in other people’s eyes. They’ve got money, they know celebrities and all that, so they can afford to do everything they do, everything they can.
“We’re trying to do what we can with the money we’ve got, with the resources we’ve got.”
It’s the biggest manhunt since The Yorkshire Ripper. Or is a private detective firm now also required?
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Shannon Matthews ‘abducted to hurt mother’”
Asked if she thought the abductor was someone she knew, Mrs Matthews, a mother of seven, said: “It seems that way because there’s no trace of her at all. There’s no trace of her swimming costume, her towel or anything like that that she’s taken with her.”
Mrs Matthews told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme she believed the reason someone had taken her daughter was to get at her.
Asked why someone would do it, Mrs Matthews replied: “Just to hurt me, really.”
When pressed on who might be behind the abduction, she said: “No idea at all. All my friends and family have all been checked and there are no sightings of her things there at all.”

Sorry - I do agree with the point about them telling the younger child Shannon is on holiday. I always feel it is better to be honest with children right from the start.
At the moment we dont now what has happened to Shannon, and I agree the parents should be suspects too, but on the other hand I cant help but feel a degree of sympathy towards Karen. Her family dont seem to be very supportive, and are too quick to slate the boyfriend in the press. If the family saw bruises on Shannon, and Shannon was saying the step dad was violent, then why didnt they step in sooner and do something?

Never thought of that one. They can save their shoe leather! Maybe they will use the funds to disappear - as some have done before them (imo).

Yes, always hang onto hope - there is not much in the kitty for Shannon, from the celebrities, and folks with money is there. Does money help find someone though.
The authorities are doing just that almost full time. Nothing found in the lake yet.

March 13th, 2008 at 9:20 am
hi all
sadly i be controversial again…..
If Shannon’s mum and stepfather so innocent please explain to me why they cant say straight out where they were at the time read all your different statements by Karen to the press and omg she now in 5 locations at that time
Until police can build a back picture of time leading up to Shannon vanishing how can they know the state of mind of the child or eliminate the parents from the enquiry
Also can none of her children read ??? how can she say Shannon’s on holiday wearing a t’shirt that Say’s Shannon missing
I apologise if i have upset anyone but until those close to her start telling the truth about there movements good or bad and what they know about the reason for Shannon’s mental anguish they have to remain firmly as chief suspects because to lie means when i was at school at least you trying to cover something up

Yes, that is a thought - they will have to be careful, very careful. I don’t know how they could walk anyway. Apparently, the Mcs are going to sue the newspapers for defamation to the tune of about $4. Why would anyone want to do that!
March 13th, 2008 at 9:09 am
Heard the Mccanns were unable attend the missing childrens march yesterday……… but other members of their family did? Think they were scared someone would chuck rotten fruit at them?
March 13th, 2008 at 9:03 am
catkidd & lyn - I dont think anyone can give up hoping, until there is a definate outcome.

Sorry to hear…you understand well what Karen is going through. I do feel myself, that there is a great difference between the “two mothers” IMO. One, there is no doubt she has nothing to do with it. The other, well, just hope both girls are still alive. Deep down I know there is not much hope. I do hope the welfare people are looking after Karen as she doesn’t seem to have much of a family, does she.
March 13th, 2008 at 8:35 am
just_me; a child abductor is likely to keep a child alive for up to 3 weeks im not given up hope that the childs is alive, and karen dosent deserve to be tared with the same brush as mcconns
March 13th, 2008 at 8:27 am
59 - I really feel for Karen Matthews. As a mother who has lost a child, I know how the guilt can grip you. In my case, there was nothing I could have done, but in Shannons case, Karen probably feels there is more she could have done. Guilt can take you to very dark places, places I never wish to go to again. I sinceerely hope Shannon is found soon, dead or alive, ( and we all wish it to be the latter) Karen needs closure. I also thought what happened to my daughter was a punishment towards me, but in a different way to Karen. Losing a child it the worst of the worst, but to feel guilt and blame yourself is a horrendous feeling.

Shannon’s Mum sounds as if she has enemies. She is racking her brains for an answer, poor thing. No towel or a sock left behind - nothing. She must have been picked up in a car and that is that. Maybe she is in the cellar somewhere. There is absolutely no suggestion is there that the mother did anything, but there is a cloud over the partner.

CHICAGO - Treffly Coyne was out of her car for just minutes and no more than 10 yards away.
But that was long and far enough to land her in court after a police officer spotted her sleeping 2-year-old daughter alone in the vehicle; Coyne had taken her two older daughters to pour $8.29 in coins into a Salvation Army kettle.
Minutes later, she was under arrest — the focus of both a police investigation and a probe by the state’s child welfare agency. -MSNBC.
TEN Yards and TWO minutes!
Whooosh-clunk, as they say on Anorak.

I really don’t think I have ever insulted you. In fact, I hope not. I have found 103% of your posts interesting (no irony).
And a few days back, I acknowledged your disclination to tal about the dam search because of the discovery of Mari Luz’s body and you thanked me for that and deferred my question.
When can you answer my question…?
In fact, I have insulted very few on Anorak (unlike most others!). I admit I might have had the harsh word here or there but, in general, I try to stay away from all that shit.

Sorry me old caped crusader, but i heard it first on the BBC news site.
Still; Cracking piss-take Gromit!
I think that the europeans really hate the British because we don’t take Eurovision seriously enough, and the Irish will definately be out of favour over this one.

Yes, I’ll go with that.
However, I regard Cumbria as Celtic ( lots of evidence there - and Cornwall certainly is), and my son is a Cumbrian with a Cornish name so, if I didnae achieve it myself, he did!

Yep, does it every time. Threaten Riverdance and they all head for the hills.
So, night all.
March 12th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
Just getting out my Riverdance CD now.
Do you all know that Ireland will be represented by a turkey in the Eurovision this year? Name of Dustin. You heard it here first folks.

I’m English with Scots and Cornish and Scandinavian blood, as far as I know, not a shamrock in sight!
———————————————————————————————————-
Yup! That’s me exactly!
Born English (sadly!), two Scots grandparents, close relatives in Lamorna, and apparently, Scandinavians, too.
I’d like to have been more Scottish, but I’m happy with the mix. (Quite a common one, I believe). Celtic-Scando is good!
