Paul McCartney On Peta: Fish Is Murder
“Many years ago, I was fishing and as I was reeling in the poor fish, I realised, ‘I am killing him – all for the passing pleasure it brings me.’
“And something inside me clicked. I realised as I watched him fight for breath, that his life was as important to him as mine is to me.”
He then offers: “I am Paul McCartney, and I am a vegetarian.”
Vegetarians Anonymous offers a 12-step programme, beginning with crab sticks and working up to stuffed trotter a la mode…

I think Paul lives in La la land, unfortunatley life does not bring the best in what we do or eat. Unfortunately for his wife Linda, also a vegetarian, cancer overcame all she beleived in, and we cannot live our lives beleiving that being a vegan, vegetarian or meat eater will make us healthier or unhealthy,or “not fishing “- will make us better people. Our life’s journey is a complete mystery and only as we pass through each stage of our lives will we learn more, what we eat is not the answer, deciding that fishing is cruel to the fish- will not change your life, one man’s meat is another man’s poison. There are huge, overweight people who live to a ripe old ages, and there are thin, fit life-style people who die young, and the fish that Paul portrays in this story sounds ……..fishy to me.

And by the way, catching a fish does not automatically mean it will die. In England we have a culture of catch-and-release, whereby thousands of fish are caught many times over but still live to an old age.

How strange - some years ago Paul McCartney claimed that he became vegetarian whilst tucking into a lamb cutlet whilst looking out of his window and seeing lambs in a field. PETA is a group of animal rights extremists that want us to stop eating meat, stop horse racing, stop keeping cats and dogs (or any other animal) as pets, stop giving our babies milk because it’s only there for calves, and they have (according to press reports) donated money to other more extreme groups.
Oh, and they’ve also killed approximately 10,000 dogs that were put into their care.
Mankind is intrinsically a carnivore. We do not have the teeth or the stomach of a herbivore. As long as no cruelty was involved in the raising of the animals, then I am happy to eat them.
