Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat’s Relief
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR: “Murat: It’s big relief”
Madeleine McCann suspect Robert Murat, 34, last night spoke of his joy that he looks likely to be officially cleared in days.
After having his computers returned, he said at his Praia da Luz home last night: “I’m so relieved.”
No mention of the Mirror’s super sleuth Lori Campbell who fingered “weird” Murat.
DAILY MAIL: “Murat could soon be cleared as Madeleine suspect after police return his possessions”
Even his computer - with the Sun’s “kid porn”.
His lawyer Francisco Pagarete said: “The police received an order from the public prosecutor to give everything back to Robert. All his items have been returned. We believe it is another step towards his clearance as a suspect. It’s a good sign.
“But we will have to wait and see. There is nothing official saying his status as an arguido is being revoked.”
Even if yesterday the Sunday People had “CLEARED” him.
No word from the The Mail’s Neil Sears, who told us: “There was something more to the friendly expat who called himself ‘Rob’ than met the eye.” Murat made Sears “feel slightly uncomfortable”.
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Robert Murat close to being cleared over Madeleine McCann disappearance”
Robert Murat has moved a step closer to being cleared as a suspect in Madeleine McCann’s disappearance after police returned possessions seized from him 10 months ago.
Says hi mother, Jenny Murat, 74: “Every single item that the police took has been returned to us. Of course we hope it means Robert’s arguido status will be lifted shortly. But we’ve had no official confirmation that that is the case and we’re not getting too excited.”

I know all that but I was asking why they were made arguido at all. If there was no case against them then why make them arguido? The other T7 aren’t arguido but they haven’t fled to South America have they? The reason the McCanns and Murat are arguido is because the PJ have more reason to suspect them than anyone else. Unless I’m missing something…

The answer was in my reply. It allows them to ask more direct accusatory questions, which would not be legal otherwise. Hence the reason for the arguido status. It doesnt automatically make them suspects.

Until someone comes forward to say they stayed in 5A after the McCanns, I’ll take this with a pinch of salt. It’s been said in places that the apartment was rented out again but no names have been mentioned and they are usually in pro-McCann articles to make out that the PJ are incompetent.

There are two Telegraph articles with the headline “Three year-old feared abducted in Portugal ”
If you google that sentence you get the 2nd article at 6:10am on 05/05/07.
This IS NOT the first article. The first article appeared at 1 minute past midnight on May 4.
Both articles have the exact same headline but the first article doesn’t show in a google search like the 2nd one does.

Witnesses in criminal investigations are legally bound to co-operate with the police and do not have the right to silence and face legal actions if they lie.[6][9] Because of the legal advantages, some individuals apply for arguido status to be given to themselves, e.g. when it would appear that the police suspect them but are trying to use their witness status to extract as much information as possible.[6]
There was no more arguidos out of the T9
Only the mccanns
This is a good move from the PJ because who ever they want to question is bond by LAW to answer and co-operate with the cops.
They do not have the right to silence etc….
What I do not know is if is possible the PJ lifts the mccanns status to reverse them to witnesses and then force them to answer?
I am not sure at all this is possible
Just wondering
March 24th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
Very short after the disappearence I started to suspect the parents. The fund, their visit to the Pope, etc.
I suspect they were hiding Maddie in order to make money.
Perhaps this was also one of the considered theories of the PJ’s.
Already in May I started to believe Murat was innocent.
I still believe it.
The PJ must have had a serious reason to suspect him, at that time, who knows also to catch the MCCanns on an indirect way.To make them feel innocent.
If the Mccanns are found guilty and they know that Murat and Malinka were innocent,
I expect them to pay both a large amount of money.
The couple got to be sued.

It must be easy enough to verify whether the McCanns are related to the McCann who owns that apartment. I’m sure the police will have looked into that.
Very common name though.
I’m pretty certain the apartments are booked through MW, even when they may actually be owned by someone else. It was discussed fully ages ago.

I’m totally amazed that the essence of the lawsuit last week was that Team McCann were complaining about being suspected of covering up the death of their daughter.
I’m amazed because I thought this was a “given” since last September when they fled PDL. If not then what on earth have we all been debating? That would mean they were named arguidos for some other reason. This now makes no sense at all.
—————–
f a person becomes an arguido, he automatically gains certain rights that a witness or suspect would not have. An arguido has the right to be accompanied by a lawyer when questioned. The investigating police may ask the arguido more direct accusatory questions, which would not be legal otherwise, but the arguido must be presented with whatever evidence is held against him, and unlike a witness has the right to remain silent, not to answer any question that may incriminate the person, and does not face legal action for lying.

Three year-old feared abducted in Portugal
By staff and agencies
Last Updated: 6:10am BST 05/05/2007
The parents of a British toddler who has gone missing while on holiday in Portugal say they fear she has been abducted.
Three-year-old Madeline McCann disappeared last night from her parent’s rented apartment in the Western Algarve, while they dined nearby.
Madeline McCann was due to start school in September
Sniffer dogs have been brought in by Portuguese detectives to comb the Mark Warner resort where the girl was staying and the nearby seaside village of Praia da Luz.

“They got up at first light and went to search alone on the open scrubland beyond the resort, wandering around, calling Madeleine’s name. It was cold and lonely – there was no answer. ”
Aha! Now they search, together at last, time for a strategy meeting and to compare notes.
And of course they were heard calling Madeleine’s name, because it was cold and lonely, and there was no-one else there to hear them.
There was no answer. Did they expect one?
Thereby hangs a tale.

I have a link somewhere to a private owner in that block. They sell their time via their own website and it’s nothing to do with MW. I don’t think each and every one of those flats are leased by MW.
The apartment I’m talking about has a HUGE refrigerator - like an American one and certainly large enough for a human child to fit inside.

What state is that? I thought it was a state thing but last year I was in Ohio and the county I was in said it was dry as well. I couldn’t have a beer with a meal in a restaurant!
The USA has a booze problem with its youth because 21 is too old to restrict sales at that level. Heck…kids in the Mediterranean grow up with wine on the table so that’s why they’re not bothered about it. Abstinence doesn’t solve a problem - it encourages binges IMO.

It is a state rule thing regarding alcolhol, and in some states it is county by county or city by city. My home town just licensed a liquor store last year!

Murat considers to prosecute the State
PJ returns personal objects apprehended from the first Arguido in Maddie’s case
The Judiciary Police returned several personal objects to Robert Murat, the first Arguido in the Maddie’s case. The possessions were apprehended during the searches to the house of the British man, nearly 100 meters away from the apartment of where the girl disappeared. Murat believes that is going to stop being arguido and admits to prosecute the State.
During ten months Robert Murat arguido in the Maddie case, was deprived of three portable computers, several PC cables, VHS tapes, a camera and several pieces of clothing and shoes.
The objects apprehended by the Judiciary Police, in May of 2007, in the sequence of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, from Praia da Luz, were returned to the British citizen last Wednesday.
Only some papers with numbers of telephone and personal notes are still kept annexed to the process.
With the devolution of these objects, Robert Murat believes that soon he will stop being in the list of Arguidos [formal suspects] in the Maddie case and that after proven his innocence he will be able to recover his professional life, which it seems to have been suspended since he was constituted arguido in one of the most mediatized cases in the last years.
The British man who has always claimed innocence advanced with three crime-complaints against Portuguese newspapers, since they had put in question, in the course of the investigations, his sexual options.
Contacted by SIC, the lawyer of Murat underlined that the news damaged the arguido personally and professionally.
Robert saw the site of his company online blocked and lives, since then, with the help of his mother. In the open is also the hypothesis of advancing with an action in Court against the Portuguese State.
In the context of the investigations there’s not much of new information. The Judiciary Police prepares now the travel of a team of inspectors to England, in order that they accompany the requests of interrogations to Kate and Gerry McCann and to the friends who were with them, in Praia da Luz, in the night of the 3rd of May, when Madeleine disappeared without leaving track.
The rest of it is also informative

“However, Mr Hill said the police had been doing all they could. He said around 60 staff and guests at the complex had searched until 4.30am while police notified border police, Spanish police and airports.”
SIXTY staff and guests, searching until 4.30am! I am surprised the McInnocents could sleep, with all that banging and crashing about going on. Some people have no consideration for their fellow guests.
Must have been very difficult to hear what was being said on all those high-level, self-protecting phone calls, before they dozed off.
“Hello, hello, you’ll have to (CRASH) speak up, Gordon.”
March 24th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
The apartments are all privately owned but leased by Mark Warner and rented out as package holidays.
The McCann party were all booked through MW, hence MW helping them. None of them booked privately, it was Mark Warner holiday.
Its out there somewhere but I know it from PDL.
Check out the MW website and you see how it works. They lease several properties in the vicinity for the holiday seasons leaving winter free for the owners. Happens in lots of Iberian holiday resorts with ex-pat property owners.

I think the fact Murat’s computers etc were returned to him speaks volumes. Apart from Lori Campbell’s suspicions I believe Murat was implicated into this because of his resemblance to one of the Tapas 7. Can’t remember if it was Oldfield or O’Brian.
