Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat’s Relief
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR: “Murat: It’s big relief”
Madeleine McCann suspect Robert Murat, 34, last night spoke of his joy that he looks likely to be officially cleared in days.
After having his computers returned, he said at his Praia da Luz home last night: “I’m so relieved.”
No mention of the Mirror’s super sleuth Lori Campbell who fingered “weird” Murat.
DAILY MAIL: “Murat could soon be cleared as Madeleine suspect after police return his possessions”
Even his computer - with the Sun’s “kid porn”.
His lawyer Francisco Pagarete said: “The police received an order from the public prosecutor to give everything back to Robert. All his items have been returned. We believe it is another step towards his clearance as a suspect. It’s a good sign.
“But we will have to wait and see. There is nothing official saying his status as an arguido is being revoked.”
Even if yesterday the Sunday People had “CLEARED” him.
No word from the The Mail’s Neil Sears, who told us: “There was something more to the friendly expat who called himself ‘Rob’ than met the eye.” Murat made Sears “feel slightly uncomfortable”.
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Robert Murat close to being cleared over Madeleine McCann disappearance”
Robert Murat has moved a step closer to being cleared as a suspect in Madeleine McCann’s disappearance after police returned possessions seized from him 10 months ago.
Says hi mother, Jenny Murat, 74: “Every single item that the police took has been returned to us. Of course we hope it means Robert’s arguido status will be lifted shortly. But we’ve had no official confirmation that that is the case and we’re not getting too excited.”

Stevo
I may well be showing ignorance or misunderstanding here.
The time of the Telegraph article is 6.10 am. Is New York five hours (???) behind the UK?
And published on 5th May?
Sorry if this is rubbish and I’ve misunderstood your point.

Sad to say, I don”t think Madeleine is alive, and inclined to believe the Pj theory that
she was killed accidentally. But for the life of me I can”t see how any parent , if this is
true, can keep up the pretence for so long. They even had the car DNA tested by an
independent Forensic expert!!!!

Seriously, what does that tell you?

Oh it is certainly worthy of debate.
I am interested in two main issues.
1. A moral issue: Why has one missing child be selected above all others for specialist treatment
- not sure if it an moral issue, but she has been selected above all others, as you put it, because her parents, wisely or unwisely (debate…) thought it was better to publicise her abduction.
2. A political issue: Why the protection of her parents has been orchestrated from the start and received far higher priority than any search for her.
- That’s a lot to take in - on which point would you like to start?

760 - Stevo - Well put (”How stupid would they all have looked if Madeleine showed up the next morning and everyone was publishing “abduction” stories?”)
I remember when I experienced a loss (actually just the fear of a loss) I had trouble breathing. I was gasping for air for days on end; crying and praying and wishing it was a dream. Or I would turn angry and a torrent of bitterness and bile would pour from me - then out of nowhere I would get giddy, thinking that there was something I could to do make it all right only to fall back into the abyss when I realised I couldn’t make it right again. I went through these feeling for more than a year and still have relapses four years later.
All I saw the McCann’s doing was frowning and that is one emotion that can be easily faked.

It’s not dishonest. I’m not allowed to post links to my site in here and I only post links to photos stored in a folder on my site. Ask Anorak why that is - I’m not dishonestly doing it.
If you google “feared abducted in portugal” your first result is a Daily Telegraph article - the 2nd article with those words in the headline and published on 5/5/07. Click the Google link and it’ll take you to the Telegraph article. Look at the top of the article and you’ll see the time and date the article was posted.

They are more interested in the money than maddie, imo of course. Does anyone remember when they returned from the visit to the pope, they said that they wanted to retire from the public eye for a while to grieve and come to terms with everything? Bit contradictory when they argued that what stopped them from crumbling or words to that effect, was searching for maddie. It would tie in with the theory that the visit to the pope was in effect maddies funeral

It was news. Tragic for the family in question certainly , but there are more compelling news items, of that there is no doubt. But you are still here too, so it seems worthy of debate…

You will forgive me for not following your tinyurl link as I did it once before and it led me to your site… which was quite dishonest, imo. Why not say what the link is? And I’m sure if the information is available, then it it is available elsewhere…. and I like to know where I’m going, sitewise.

752 brief encounter
It’s because people who concoct lies don’t know how to stage it to look realistic so they go overboard with things and mess up. They had to balance the act of appearing to be the most devoted parents alive with an abduction scenario. But they appeared too devoted IMO and they rang all and sundry making it look like they were incredibly concerned. The point is that any normal reaction would be at grass roots i.e. shoe leather and walking around PDL - not contacting the bloody government. How stupid would they all have looked if Madeleine showed up the next morning and everyone was publishing “abduction” stories? Barmy, the lot of them.

I remember George Bush’s reaction in the school in Florida when he was told of the events. It’s like a defining moment in history. He chose to carry on listening to a children’s story. If he had got up and gone, the kids would have thought no less of him. IMO his reaction was wrong and inappropriate.
I’m not bothered per se who did what. I just hope the PJ work over the past year hasn’t been in vain and they actually catch whoever did what.

There is no disputing the fact that it was INTERNATIONAL headline news (as abduction - not as a missing child) by 6.30 am. the next morning.
Local news - yes, that would be understandable - encourage people to check their gardens, sheds etc. But international news 8 hours after first being found missing?
I think Brief Encounter’s post says it all.
Nothing further to add.
