Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat’s Relief
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR: “Murat: It’s big relief”
Madeleine McCann suspect Robert Murat, 34, last night spoke of his joy that he looks likely to be officially cleared in days.
After having his computers returned, he said at his Praia da Luz home last night: “I’m so relieved.”
No mention of the Mirror’s super sleuth Lori Campbell who fingered “weird” Murat.
DAILY MAIL: “Murat could soon be cleared as Madeleine suspect after police return his possessions”
Even his computer - with the Sun’s “kid porn”.
His lawyer Francisco Pagarete said: “The police received an order from the public prosecutor to give everything back to Robert. All his items have been returned. We believe it is another step towards his clearance as a suspect. It’s a good sign.
“But we will have to wait and see. There is nothing official saying his status as an arguido is being revoked.”
Even if yesterday the Sunday People had “CLEARED” him.
No word from the The Mail’s Neil Sears, who told us: “There was something more to the friendly expat who called himself ‘Rob’ than met the eye.” Murat made Sears “feel slightly uncomfortable”.
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Robert Murat close to being cleared over Madeleine McCann disappearance”
Robert Murat has moved a step closer to being cleared as a suspect in Madeleine McCann’s disappearance after police returned possessions seized from him 10 months ago.
Says hi mother, Jenny Murat, 74: “Every single item that the police took has been returned to us. Of course we hope it means Robert’s arguido status will be lifted shortly. But we’ve had no official confirmation that that is the case and we’re not getting too excited.”

Spongebob - my wife lost my son - he was three at the time and she thought he was playing upstairs. For ten minutes she was frantic - luckily she found him under a bed. He was fast asleep.
He could have stayed happily asleep for a few hours, madeleine may have wandered off and fallen asleep, she may not have woken until morning. It is because of ‘everyday’ scenarios like my sons that the press, if informed, do not generally run such stories immediately.

No rush, when your can see properly…….saying that, I don”t post that often and certainly not for hours……. I get a pain just above one eye, must be weaker than the other. If you do find them, just keep them “til you see me posting. Just watching the News, looking ominous for the Tibetans, the Chinese won”t let them off lightly for
spoiling the opening Ceremony.

how COULD they have left those children alone, when it has been proven the apartment could not be seen from the Tapas Bar?”
****
Not only that. The doors were open, for reason that
1. they didn’t want to wake up the kids when opening with a key
2. the children would be able to get out incase of e.g. a fire [meaning they realised there WAS a risk in leaving them alone]
yet, KM said later on that she was convinced that Madelein couldn’t have wondered off, because she would have been unable to open the door …

Night everyone. Really interesting discussion today.
Away for a few days from tomorrow but will try to contact Telegraph. I can’t see why they wouldn’t explain, hopefully. I’d be surprised at the Foreign Office being “open for business” before the next day, to be honest, BUT they definitely phoned a few people here in the UK. I heard about it on the Radio 4 news some time between 6.30 and 7.45 am. I expect someone whom they phoned then contacted the media. It’s still surprising about the Telegraph, though not impossible. The Telegraph online isn’t usually so quick! The Mail would have been less surprising. On the other hand, it could just be an error in the time printed or in the “am” rather than “pm”. Not likely but it doesn’t sound like news the paper has just heard, does it?
“See” you soon.
Happy what-remains-of-Easter!

ah no - I followed the one that was conveniently posted by a ‘newbie’ and not a tinyurl link. Which you would have understood had you read the posts. Suffice to say I am careful about the sites I visit. It is only wise.

I emailed them about it. Never got an answer….
But in the early report no name of the parents nor child was mentioned.
It’s no headline [at that moment] but expat news.

HELP!
Anybody who’s seen Jon Corner’s video recall wether he states in that video that the window was open and the shutters jemmied or forced?
He wasn’t in PdL at May 3rd isn’t it? So what he says in the video is information provided by the McCann’s I assume.

Yes indeed. and there were plenty who were doing that, including, I believe Mr McCann; his wife being a bit traumatised inside.
I take it you are so sure of your reactions in any given extreme circumstance? Can I suggest the Special Forces?

So the FO were reporting within two hours of Madeleine”s disappearance? As Batman
said, you would think a few hours should have elapsed in case Madeleine had just woken up and gone walkabout. If it is true that M used to climb into her parents
bed and was given a gold star every time she stayed in her own bed, how COULD they
have left those children alone, when it has been proven the apartment could not be seen from the Tapas Bar?

Three year-old feared abducted in Portugal
By staff and agencies
Last Updated: 12:01am BST 04/05/2007
A three-year-old British girl has gone missing while on a family holiday in Portugal, the Foreign Office said today.
Portuguese police are investigating the disappearance from a holiday complex in Praia da Luz in the western Algarve.
A Foreign Office spokesman said that he understood the girl’s parents had gone to have dinner once their children were asleep last night, but returned to check on them only to find the girl had gone missing.
“They reported it straight away,” he said, adding that consular assistance was being offered.

That they think the evidence was planted? Really, such minute particles? you don”t really believe that do you? It”s like the Sun Editor said “everyone”s an armchair
Detective”.
Garth, I really don”t know what to believe, but three things bother me:
1. The high profile support they have received, don”t tell me it is because Madeleine
is so appealing and they are “middle class” parents.
2. Why hire such top class Lawyers within 24 hours of their return to the U.K., when
they havn”t been charged.
3. Why did Kate supposedly refuse to answer questions, as the Mother of a missing
child you would think she would do all she could to help the Police in their enquiries.
March 24th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Spongebob - you could be right but stevo did post some links earlier that demonstrated different posting times. If you look at any story released onto the internet news sites over night they do not all have the same posting time.
Regardless of whether it was posted at midnight or 6am, i think that batman is correct in saying that missing children cases do not usually hit the headlines so soon. Perhaps because Madeleine was so young it was assumed that she didn’t ‘run’ away?
Can anyone remember the name of the child who was ’snatched’ from her home (wales?) a few years ago, she was young and found after a few days? It would be interesting to compare the time of her ‘adbuction’ with the time that it was reported.

“The McCann family have strong links with Ireland as four of Mr McCann’s siblings were born in Donegal.”
Would that be four of his siblings or his four siblings, just how many does the man have? Scuse me while I go kiss the Blarney Stone.

The McCanns seem to be protected and helped along the way by former govt employee C. Mitchell. Could be a reason for this to save exposure of other high profile people involved. IMO. Robert Murat to sue. Who will his lawyers be. Watch out for this info.
March 24th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Did anyone realise it was Telegraph who had the first news on May 4 at 12:01 a.m.?
And it’s Telegraph paying a nice amount in a settlement now …?
March 24th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Think I’ll ask the Telegraph about it. It still really doesn’t make sense because it refers to the Foreign Office saying “today” that a child has gone missing. It does not sound as though it’s something that has only just been reported.
March 24th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
I would however dispute Stevo’s time that the police were informed.
I understood that the local police were called initially and sent two officers to Pdl, they then informed the PJ having verified that maddeleine was missing. This later call is the one i think that stevo is refering to which happened at 23.50 ish.
However this does not detract from his argument about the early notification of the press.
Today we witnessed how missing children cases are usually handled, when a 10 year old boy went missing. It was reported in the local press but not by the nationals. Less than 24 hours later the boy was found safe and well.

….
I do remember some debate on this point some time back, and it seemed established that the nightime news items had a standard post midnight timing. Was there not some mailings to the Telegraph on this point (which might be the reason that they corrected it). If not, perhaps I should mail them to clarify?
