Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat’s Relief
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR: “Murat: It’s big relief”
Madeleine McCann suspect Robert Murat, 34, last night spoke of his joy that he looks likely to be officially cleared in days.
After having his computers returned, he said at his Praia da Luz home last night: “I’m so relieved.”
No mention of the Mirror’s super sleuth Lori Campbell who fingered “weird” Murat.
DAILY MAIL: “Murat could soon be cleared as Madeleine suspect after police return his possessions”
Even his computer - with the Sun’s “kid porn”.
His lawyer Francisco Pagarete said: “The police received an order from the public prosecutor to give everything back to Robert. All his items have been returned. We believe it is another step towards his clearance as a suspect. It’s a good sign.
“But we will have to wait and see. There is nothing official saying his status as an arguido is being revoked.”
Even if yesterday the Sunday People had “CLEARED” him.
No word from the The Mail’s Neil Sears, who told us: “There was something more to the friendly expat who called himself ‘Rob’ than met the eye.” Murat made Sears “feel slightly uncomfortable”.
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Robert Murat close to being cleared over Madeleine McCann disappearance”
Robert Murat has moved a step closer to being cleared as a suspect in Madeleine McCann’s disappearance after police returned possessions seized from him 10 months ago.
Says hi mother, Jenny Murat, 74: “Every single item that the police took has been returned to us. Of course we hope it means Robert’s arguido status will be lifted shortly. But we’ve had no official confirmation that that is the case and we’re not getting too excited.”

so unusual to choose to stay back at the table on hearing that a young member of your group has gone missing.
a) did she simply not hear or understand just what was going on?
b) was she not thinking clearly, having had a wee bit too much to drink?
c) was that her ‘Aha!’ moment? had she witnessed some behaviour, a comment, a conversation she couldn’t quite make sense of until that moment, the gravity of which then left her so overcome because of what it may have implied?

Hi Maria,
Thanks. No, I don’t remember anything about “smashed” either.
The Telegraph never answered me, but may be because I’m a foreigner? Don’t know.
And yes it looks as if it’s reported at once, but by someone not knowing [or not yet telling] the name of the child/the parents. Might have been to protect them in case the child was found pretty soon?
But to me it’s important what Jon Corner said in the video [and or/showed] because I’ve got this theorie…

I just re-read the transcript of the Panorama programme in which the Corner material was used. The only mention about shutters [not from Corner]: “As she closes it she feels a draft and knows something is wrong. A shutter on the side of the apartment they couldn’t see from the tapas bar is open. Madeleine is missing.”

Just before I go…! The article in the Times makes it clear that they probably assumed the window and shutters had had to be forced, because they were open when KM came in at 10.00pm and they thought, or assumed, they’d been locked before. It later turned out that they may not have been locked anyway. Seeing the window and shutters open, if that is really what happened, must have made Kate assume that they had been “forced” or “jemmied”. I don’t remember anything them being “smashed”, do you? It may well be that Corner interpreted what panicking Kate told him on the phone.
So have you already contacted the Telegraph about the time on that article? Definitely intriguing. It certainly says that they reported it at once.
val
Hi. I agree totally that the things you refer to are disquieting, as well as oddities in the timeline, although we don’t really know what the real times were.
The high profile support? I think they just had contacts who in turn had contacts. They, and their friends and family, are very articulate and knew how to go about things. As soon as they were made arguidos, open support stopped. I don’t know why the big donors are so generous. I can only suppose that so many people felt “There but for the grace of God…” I know lots of people are very critical of them for leaving the children but the sad truth is that lots of people do similar things. Ask anyone who works on one of these holiday sites, or uses them. Some people use baby-listening services which are even worse than what this group did. Maybe that’s one reason why there was so much sympathy for them. A lot of people (not Anorak posters!) also thought they were, and are, grief-stricken to the point of despair. I myself could hardly bear to look at Kate in those early days. I felt I should turn off the TV because it was like intruding on the worst possible suffering. I thought I’d never seen anything like it in my life.
I think if the PJ have evidence against them, there will be nobody stopping the arrests. I don’t believe the theory that the Govt is protecting them! No way. Why on earth should they? a couple of young doctors?
The lawyers? Maybe they really thought they were the victims of a miscarriage of justice? IF they were innocent, they must have been horrified at the thought that the police suspected them of killing their child, even accidentally. (How could the police know it was accidental??)
Kate refusing to answer questions? Well, we don’t really know what they were, do we, if any? Maybe there were questions the answers to which, if she had answered truthfully, might have been used against her even though she was innocent. I can’t imagine why she didn’t answer but simply lie! Maybe she didn’t want to lie. She will have followed the advice of her Portuguese lawyer on this and he will have followed standard procedure. It probably was his decision, not hers, which questions she should not respond to. (Remember he later said that they might well not have been made arguidos at all a couple of weeks later when the law changed, making it necessary for the police to have some evidence before making someone an arguido. It was suggested that this might have been why the police were “hasty” in doing it. A week or two later and they might not have been able to.)
Nobody really don’t know what happened but I just think it’s better not to jump to conclusions. Only my opinion! Anyway, one learns not to make any assumptions and not to be surprised at anything! Thanks for those great links yesterday.
Good night!

Amaral, I believe put forward the theory that the parents were involved, but then the
PJ said they thought Kate had accidentally killed Madeleine and that they had found the DNA, phone taps, discrepancies in the Tapas7 statements etc. While questioning
Kate. she apparently refused to answer some questions and opted under advice from her Portugese Lawyer to have arguido status so that she wouldn”t have to answer the
questions.. The “mccannfiles site is full of info and I am sure will be able to tell you.

Welcome, like you I am a comparative newcomer, I think the parents of Madeleine were guilty of serious neglect, but cannot make up my mind about anything else. You
will find many anti McCann”s and some pro McCanns. Sometimes the “debates” end up
in slanging matches, sometimes, like tonight, very interesting. I find it easier to steer clear of the more aggressive posters who you will soon identify, if you havn”t already
through “lurking”. Have your say anyway.

Sometimes I get like Colombo, confused, and then hey it hits me, so what I need is someone to tell me or give me a link that,
1) The PJ has announced Madeleines demise.
2) That the PJ have announced this is a homicide enquiry.
Any takers.

Hello and welcome at Anorak!
If you’ve been watching the site for a while, you know people who dare to say they are sympathetic for the McCann’s will be called names [like for instance child neglector or supporter of ~].
Nevertheless you posted and you stated that. Now that’s what I call courage!

Hi all
I have been watching (not “lurking”) these discussions about Madeleine for many weeks now. I have wanted to contribute but sometimes the exchanges seem to be very nippy and not entirely relevant to finding out what happened to Madeleine. Sometimes, however, the debate is extremely interesting and thought provoking. That’s what is so addictive about it!
Maybe posters should remember to debate the info posted and not harangue the poster.
Isn’t everyone entitled to their own considered opinion?
I don’t want to antagonise anyone, but if I am brave enough to add further posts, I am sympathetic to the McCanns. I do not know them personally or (at least as far as I am aware ) do I know anyone who does.
For additional clarity, I live in Glasgow.
Juat like everyone else here, I want to know what happened to wee Madeleine.
