Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat’s Relief
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR: “Murat: It’s big relief”
Madeleine McCann suspect Robert Murat, 34, last night spoke of his joy that he looks likely to be officially cleared in days.
After having his computers returned, he said at his Praia da Luz home last night: “I’m so relieved.”
No mention of the Mirror’s super sleuth Lori Campbell who fingered “weird” Murat.
DAILY MAIL: “Murat could soon be cleared as Madeleine suspect after police return his possessions”
Even his computer - with the Sun’s “kid porn”.
His lawyer Francisco Pagarete said: “The police received an order from the public prosecutor to give everything back to Robert. All his items have been returned. We believe it is another step towards his clearance as a suspect. It’s a good sign.
“But we will have to wait and see. There is nothing official saying his status as an arguido is being revoked.”
Even if yesterday the Sunday People had “CLEARED” him.
No word from the The Mail’s Neil Sears, who told us: “There was something more to the friendly expat who called himself ‘Rob’ than met the eye.” Murat made Sears “feel slightly uncomfortable”.
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Robert Murat close to being cleared over Madeleine McCann disappearance”
Robert Murat has moved a step closer to being cleared as a suspect in Madeleine McCann’s disappearance after police returned possessions seized from him 10 months ago.
Says hi mother, Jenny Murat, 74: “Every single item that the police took has been returned to us. Of course we hope it means Robert’s arguido status will be lifted shortly. But we’ve had no official confirmation that that is the case and we’re not getting too excited.”

Thanks Val.
Yet we don’t know for sure if they noticed an open window/shutters. And if they knew they should be closed. Remember as far as we know they didn’t know Madeleine was missing, so they didn’t have a reason to pay much attention to anything I guess.

Your”e back……….thought YOU were the one with the info!!!!!!! there are some very
wierd speculations here, but also some very intelligent theories. You make a good
point about Diane Webster. The CBS Investigator was told by the Tapas Staff that seven or eight bottles of wine were drunk, not very many you would think between
nine people. However, Kate & Gerry said they had a glass of wine before they wen out, were the first at the Tapas bar at 8.30pm so possibly a bottle of wine apiece was a lot
in one and a half hours, it would certainly be enought for me !!!!!!!!

I hoped they or Jon said something about it. Bilton is telling us something, but we can’t be sure what/i> they told him [or even if they told him anything or what exactly - how many details].

Maybe DW was waiting for the elusive Tapas 10?
Otherwise, I vote for a combination of a and b.
She was reported to return for her camera, was it?
——
a) did she simply not hear or understand just what was going on?
b) was she not thinking clearly, having had a wee bit too much to drink?
c) was that her ‘Aha!’ moment? had she witnessed some behaviour, a comment, a conversation she couldn’t quite make sense of until that moment, the gravity of which then left her so overcome because of what it may have implied?
theories, anyone? scoops be better even!

David James Smith in his article, totally in favour of the MC’s innocence [so maybe uncontested source?]: “Another Portuguese journalist told me a local GNR (national republican guard) police officer had described one of the group as being so drunk later that evening, they could barely stand.”
Good night again.

Here’s another McExcuse-
The MCs refused to have the twins tested for sedatives. He later said ( in Panorama) that the predator might have sedated the twins.
Sedation could have administered orally, inhalationally or intravenously, all carrying huge risks for small children. ( In the latter case, contaminated needles can carry HIV, hepatitis and pathogens etc.)
Bearing in mind that they are both doctors -Kate specialising in anaesthesia, not having the kids checked out medically asap was hugely negligent or incriminatory IMO.

Totje - even if she only had a quick look - wouldn’t she have noticed that the shutters were open before she closed the door?

I’m not sure I’m understanding what you don’t understand - or maybe I’m misunderstanding you!
Might she be closing the door behind her, after entering the room? She is still inside the room having closed the door and would then be looking at the children - except that she was alerted by the draught.

I think some of the critisisme is caused by the media attention, their [seemingly] cold behaviour and the loads of money involved, the assumed political interference, and because they are “arguido’s”, which people easily translate as suspects.
However a suspect doesn’t allways turn out to be the perpetrator. And it might well be that they were made arguido’s so the pj could ask them more direct accusatory questions.

Can”t remember which Part of the CBS report it is in. Prior to that though I remember
seeing another report where they were dusting for prints and it was said then that the shutters could not be opened from the outside. also, JT and DO”B both passed the
window between 9.10pm when Gerry last checked and 10pm when Kate checked and
neither noticed an opened window apparently.

It has been well established here [and I can confirm as I had the same type of shutters] that they cannot be opened from outside without breaking them.

Sad to say, I don”t think Madeleine is alive, and inclined to believe the Pj theory that
she was killed accidentally. But for the life of me I can”t see how any parent , if this is
true, can keep up the pretence for so long. They even had the car DNA tested by an
independent Forensic expert!!!!

Thanks Denzylle.
Chantelaines quote clearly states that Kate was doing her check on the children.
She walks all the way from the tapas bar.
Enters the appartment and closed the bedroom door that oldfeild had left open.
As she closed the bedroom door she felt the draft.
At that point she realised that something was wrong.
So she was closing the bedroom door having not noticed that madeleine was not there?
I don’t understand this.

Kate McCann always looks like she is under duress. Have opinion (IMO) she should talk.
Maybe she can’t and the consequences will not be worth doing so.

Remember Madeleine’s bed was just around the corner against the wall. Matt Oldfield also stated he could see the twins but not Madeleine.
May be they just had a very quick look/check of the kids before running back to the Tapas Restaurant?

Did someone actually give those two points as reasons for why the door was left unlocked?
So, had they done a fire drill with the bairns? In case of fire, was Madeleine supposed to have the presence of mind to get out of her own bed, lower the sides on each cot (crib), wake the siblings (from their deep, deep sleep), help them climb out of their cots, then lead them to the open door -
- which, altho’ unlocked, she would have been unable to open?
Yet another McC reason / explanation / excuse that is total garbage!

Hi
I was a young parent and very inexperienced but I wouldn’t think of leaving my child/ children unsupervised, even if they were asleep.
People make mistakes - and I have made many other mistakes regarding my children. Fortunately those mistakes never resulted in harm to any one of them (I have 3, the youngest is 23 now).
I do believe the McCanns made a mistake in leaving three small children alone while they went out out to dine and socialise but they now are paying a terrible price for the mistake because of the loss of their wee girl.
It is does not bear thinking about.
I think they need support. They know they made a mistake.
I do not believe they harmed their child although their absence may have allowed another person to take their child.
I think some of the criticism of them stems unfortunately from the fact they are medical professionals and for some reason they do not merit the same sympathy as the family of Shannon Matthews.

Newbie, this good enough? Or do you need more?
BILTON: According to the McCann timeline, at about 9.30 Matt Oldfield is the next to check on the children. Remember Gerry McCann says he had closed the bedroom door, but Matt Oldfield says he finds it open. He doesn’t go in the room, he sees the twins but can’t see Madeleine’s bed. Because there’s no noise he assumes everything is okay. At about 10 it’s Kate McCann’s turn to check on the children. The bedroom door is still open. As she closes it she feels a draft and knows something is wrong. A shutter on the side of the apartment they couldn’t see from the tapas bar is open. Madeleine is missing. Kate McCann says she searches the flat three times before raising the alarm. Jane Tanner says that by this time she is already back in her apartment.

Not only that. The doors were open, for reason that
1. they didn’t want to wake up the kids when opening with a key
2. the children would be able to get out incase of e.g. a fire [meaning they realised there WAS a risk in leaving them alone]
yet, KM said later on that she was convinced that Madelein couldn’t have wondered off, because she would have been unable to open the door …
