Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat’s Relief
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR: “Murat: It’s big relief”
Madeleine McCann suspect Robert Murat, 34, last night spoke of his joy that he looks likely to be officially cleared in days.
After having his computers returned, he said at his Praia da Luz home last night: “I’m so relieved.”
No mention of the Mirror’s super sleuth Lori Campbell who fingered “weird” Murat.
DAILY MAIL: “Murat could soon be cleared as Madeleine suspect after police return his possessions”
Even his computer - with the Sun’s “kid porn”.
His lawyer Francisco Pagarete said: “The police received an order from the public prosecutor to give everything back to Robert. All his items have been returned. We believe it is another step towards his clearance as a suspect. It’s a good sign.
“But we will have to wait and see. There is nothing official saying his status as an arguido is being revoked.”
Even if yesterday the Sunday People had “CLEARED” him.
No word from the The Mail’s Neil Sears, who told us: “There was something more to the friendly expat who called himself ‘Rob’ than met the eye.” Murat made Sears “feel slightly uncomfortable”.
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Robert Murat close to being cleared over Madeleine McCann disappearance”
Robert Murat has moved a step closer to being cleared as a suspect in Madeleine McCann’s disappearance after police returned possessions seized from him 10 months ago.
Says hi mother, Jenny Murat, 74: “Every single item that the police took has been returned to us. Of course we hope it means Robert’s arguido status will be lifted shortly. But we’ve had no official confirmation that that is the case and we’re not getting too excited.”

“However, yesterday’s bombshell news that Kate McCann has formally been made an “arguida” - a formal suspect - means we can no longer take their innocence as an absolute, cast-iron certainty, how ever unpalatable that might be. ”
Interesting objective reading

Thanks [appartment].
The information about the draft and the door and Oldfield “lighter” has been discussed a while ago on Anorak [may be even months]. But with all these different reports NOT told by the people involved but by friends, family or reporters it’s impossible to draw any conclusions imo. I’m sure the pj knows all about it.

newbie,
you WOULD immediately notice that they were open if you were sober and in full control of your senses. the test of this, of course, is if there’s any information out there to indicate what state (sober, tipsy, drunk) Kate was in that night. [anyone??]

I’d do anything to get the child back. And especially listen to the experts. Yet it’s a pity the more “experts” you consult the more different advises you will get!
[btw I don't think they are cold but that's how a lot of posters see them. I do think Gerry looks like a what I call "control freak" or even a bit arrogant, but hey, I don't know them, so I could be completely wrong - wouldn't be the first time I was wrong in anything!]

Gandolf - i think you are right. the bedroom door opens outwards, and if you look in the bedroom with the door ajar you would be looking directly at the window.
It would be the first thing you would notice, the shutters block out the light completley, so you would immediatley notice that they were open.
Where was Gerry suggesting that the abductor was hiding?

Agreed, the PJ have not made any statements themselves, but before Rebelo took
charge there were a lot of “leaks” from the Police and Kate accidentally killing
Madeleine was one of them. Gandolf, you keep decrying everything and we all know
that our theories are speculation and like the Editor of the Sun said in the CBS News
Report (did you watch the videos?) we have all become armchair detectives. However,
the fact remains that Kate and Jerry SAY they will be happy to cooperate with the Pj
but have made no move to do so.

From McCann Files:
The door to the children’s bedroom has been the source of much debate as it plays an important role in the events of the evening of May 3rd.
Martin Brunt’s documentary, aired on 24 December 2007, confirmed that the door was hinged on the right, as a person enters the room, and swings into the bedroom - not the living area as detailed in this diagram.

No, it’s not what I’d have done either.
I don’t believe in the broken shutters, full stop.
But I am trying to go along with this to see how plausible it is.
I’m finding it isn’t!

You asked me the other night, was Tanners apartment next door. It was 5B, the McCanns were 5A.
However, I am now interested in this business of her ‘realising something was wrong’ and closing the door.
With her story of being too panic stricken to go check with her friend and this newby spotted discrepancy, I think we can really begin to see why the pJ are ‘confused’ by Kates story.

Might she be closing the door behind her, after entering the room? She is still inside the room having closed the door and would then be looking at the children - except that she was alerted by the draught.
———————————————————————————————————
Look at the floorplan on McCann Files and read the notes about the position of the door and how it opens and hangs.
It’s conceivable that KM could have gone inside, in the dark, turned to the right (with her back to MM’s bed) and closed the door behind her, then turned round to look at MM’s empty bed.
But it’s no more conceivable that she could have done that without feeling the draught from the broken shutters before she had closed the door than it is that Oldfield could have peeped in and not felt the draught or noticed it was ‘lighter’ either.

How could Oldfield know “the apartment was lighter then before”?
Unless he’s checked the children on other nights too, and he knows it should be dark in the bedroom?
And how did he find his way in the apartment if it was dark?
Did he know the door should be closed?
If the door was only a couple of centimeters ajar, I don’t think Kate [or Oldfield] could see the window/shutters.
But why did Oldfield NOT feel the draft? Because he didn’t try to close the door?
In fact I don’t believe they very seriously checked the children. I think they just listened at the door.

I agree with what some of what you say. I have done for many weeks.
I do not think the McCanns were reacting coldly but instead, they could have been, and are still, relying on their professional training regarding appearing detached. I think this has resulted in them appearing “abnormal” in their reactions.
I also think they took an approach to raise a big noise to bring attention to Madeleine going missing which has since gone against them.
Can you honestly say that if your child went missing you would not try to use anything at your disposal to recover her?
I might be way off base in all of this but I don’t think so.

veritablequandry,
i get your reference to her forgetfulness, ie camera left at table. plausible to have been as a result of being not so lucid (tipsy? pissing drunk? though i’d prefer to think she’s a lady, so perhaps just tipsy…..). but also possible to have been as a result of (c), ie being suddenly overcome. no?
March 24th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
Denzylle - if you check on your children do you enter the room and close the door behind you? She would assume that she was going straight back to the tapas bar and not anticipated being in the childrens bedroom for more than a few seconds. I doubt whether she would have been closing it from inside the bedroom.
But if the shutter was open she wouldn’t she have noticed this on entering the bedroom?
If she was actually checking the children, then i would assume she would firstly notice the shutters being open (there is a street light along that road isn’t there - so the open shutters would be obvious).
She would then notice either the open window or madeleine missing, before any ‘draft’ alerted her to the fact that something was wrong.

Sometimes I get like Colombo, confused, and then hey it hits me, so what I need is someone to tell me or give me a link that,
1) The PJ has announced Madeleines demise.
2) That the PJ have announced this is a homicide enquiry.
Any takers.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
As there has been no takers directly to the two above question, I think we can safely assume, that no one in fact knows what the actual case to be discussed is.
For quite simply if there is no confirmation that this is a homicide case, it rather opens things up.
