When an earthquake strikes, the tower will disappear into the sand very quietly. Don't think SA think deeply about anything much these days.

It's never been a question of "if" a tower like this could be built using modern international engineering (glad to see an American design firm is engineering in this case, Bechtel),but who the heck would pay for it. I guess stables for the princes's and his fellow princes's human chattel, their wives and emptyheaded offspring, is what it's going to be. It is what these "oh so clever" arabs value most, their bloodlines, afterall. But maybe they know something we don't, as has proven to be the case so often in the past, such as when. ..uh, um..they..uh...oh, well. Anyhow, glad they're using their windfall to advance our western technology. Once the first one is built as the testbed, perhaps the technologies from this economy of scales will be applied to something really worthwhile, such as Frank Lloyd Wrights ambitions plans which have been waiting in the wings for so long and which, from the standpoint of design gives this thing all the appeal of a hood ornament on a 1963 Studebaker...which I love, but really...really. Or better yet, the mile high geodesic dome of R. Buckminster Fuller with all the truly worthwhile benefits that are so lacking in this impressive but other than that, uninteresting design. Any chance we can get 'em to plate it in gold? That'd really show the rest of the world who they're dealing with.

Hi Billy,
Nice to hear from you. I think Billy that there are plenty of Arabs who have paid birds from around the world(including Brazil) to move their bodies around on large beds in fancy hotels and posh houses in London.

Whatever are the laws in Saudi Arabia, they often don't seem to apply when they are abroad.Money talks and "morals" walk.

Regards,

JOHN

If only Saudi Arabia placed such huge importance on human rights as it does on huge buildings . The only country in the world that is named after a family.

The USA and Britain will always want to be on close terms as long as their oil is around. No oil equals NO interest. What will be at the top of the 5,250ft tower? Maybe, Saudi women in a large room asking for equal rights.
