Madeleine McCann: The McCanns’ Return To Portugal, A Year Of Looking And Ben Affleck
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN: “McCanns risk arrest over visit”
KATE and Gerry McCann may risk arrest by returning to Portugal for the one-year anniversary of their daughter’s disappearance.
The couple are prepared to take the chance in a last ditch attempt to revive interest in four-year-old Maddie, missing since May 3.
Any facts?
The doctors, both 39, left the Praia da Luz resort last September – 48 hours after being made official suspects over the mystery.
Gerry and Kate McCann are Doctors. Such are the facts.
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “They want to be there for the first anniversary. Going out there would send the strongest possible message that Madeleine could still be alive and the search for her should continue.”
SYDNEY MORNING HERALD: “Turning the tabloids”
Ben Affleck is Gone Baby Gone:
Almost as troublesome was the story’s unforeseen and unintended resemblance to a real-life case of child kidnapping that hit the headlines in the months it was being filmed. That was the disappearance in Portugal last year of British girl Madeleine McCann, who was of a similar age and appearance to the film’s kidnapping victim and had a name eerily similar to the character in the Lehane novel, Amanda McCready.
McCready has disappeared amid the squalor of her south Boston neighbourhood. The police are out in formation, as are the television news vans, antennas raised high, all but trembling for blood.

” the DNA samples had proved to be degraded, incomplete, possibly contaminated and inconclusive’.”
Here is a clarification about DNAFriday, November 30, 2007
Madeleine DNA results inconclusive?
The Guardian Unlimited quotes Clarence Mitchell, the spokesperson for the McCann’s, as stating:
“Forensic evidence, if there is any, is inconclusive or explicable, so they [the McCanns] should be eliminated from the inquiry.”
And he also hopes that “following this meeting the Portuguese prosecutor will let common sense prevail and will lift their arguido status.”
Mr Mitchell’s words “forensic evidence, if there is any..” rather implies that he does not know the results from the PJ’s visit with British forensics experts and is perhaps using guesswork. But with that aside…
…What exactly does an ‘inconclusive’ result mean?
Reliagene Technologies Inc
There are only three possible reportable conclusions of a forensic DNA test: exclusion, inclusion, or inconclusive.
Exclusion means that an individual could not be the contributor of the DNA recovered from an item of evidence. All exclusions are 100% definitive.
Inclusion means that an individual could be the contributor of the DNA recovered from an item of evidence. For example, the report could state that “DNA test results for the evidence are consistent with the reference sample of the suspect. Therefore, the suspect is not excluded as the DNA donor in ReliaGene Sample #01-0000.” Inclusions are accompanied by a statistical frequency. In a case where nuclear STR (Profiler/COfiler) was performed, for example, the report could state: “For the 13 markers tested, the genetic profile for the DNA donor of ReliaGene Sample #01-0000 occurs with a frequency of approximately 1 in >10 billion persons in each of the Caucasian, African American, and Hispanic populations.”
Inconclusive means that no meaningful results could be garnered, usually because the DNA was too degraded or in too small quantity.
As the DNA samples collected from the McCann’s hire car has not fallen into the category of ‘Exclusion’ (which is 100% definitive) but has fallen into the category of ‘Inconclusive’ it would suggest that the DNA samples may be that of Madeleine but was too degraded, or there wasn’t enough of the sample, for the results to be conclusive.
Although the ‘inconclusive’ result cannot be used as evidence that Madeleine was in the boot of their hired car because it was degraded or there wasn’t enough of the sample to place it into the ‘inclusive’ category, neither does it clear Gerry and Kate McCann from suspicion, therefore the likelihood of being lifted from their Arguido (suspect) status is unlikely.

C&C - the mcc’s only have to inform the pj if they are going to be away from home for more than 5 days.

Did they remove the front page of the Express ?

Julie, re: your friend… have you tried Friends Reunited, Facebook etc? It is also possibly to go through directory enquiries online and also the elecotral roll.
There are many ways to find someone….. journos do it all the time!
Just a thought……….
re: the McCanns and the PJ next week…. My immediate thought was that the PJ had picked this week because they knew the McCanns would be away in Brussels. The McCanns would have had to inform them under their arguido restrictions and the PJ must have given permission.
They are hardly running away as we all know all about it!!

1293 Jo Have a lovely time in Dublin. I recommend the Botanic Gardens Glasnevin (no 19 bus to northside) which is free and is empty because it is free and if you go to Malahide beach the Grand Hotel do a lovely afternoon tea - very sumptuous and reasonably priced but you need dart or bus to get there from the centre. Must go and check dinner.

Hi Folk
Some new and interesting info in this article
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2008/apr/06/madeleinemccann.internationalcrime
Murat
‘Robert Murat, 33, was on a week’s visit from Britain to his mother Jenny’s home, yards from Apartment 5-A, when Madeleine disappeared. But he cancelled his return flight, stayed on in Praia da Luz, and was informally helping the investigators as a translator when a British Sunday newspaper journalist told the police she thought he was acting suspiciously’.
So not a psycho like character living with mum, although later in the article it mentions Murat shares a home with his mum. (Heaven help all the men today who have to live with mum due to high property/rental prices or other reasons)
‘They brought him in for questioning and - largely, Portuguese polices sources have said, on the strength of British crime profilers - formally made him an arguido in mid-May’.
I wonder if the same British crime profilers led to the naming and K and G McCann?
On the testimonies of key witnesses
‘Mitchell said he was not surprised by the inconsistencies in the initial accounts. ‘You had nine people in a bar without watches on, without mobile phones, and absolute panic set in when they realised what had happened. They were running around and then several hours later they were forced to sit down and recount their movements in exact detail and they were at sixes and sevens..’
Yeah many do not wear watches on hols but then again these were people allegedly providing an adequate timed-frequency supervision of young childre/babies.
Overall the article offers little hope of a revelation of what happened to Madeleine, without a body or confessions, and although implicit in the article is the acceptance of Madeleine’s death the forensics appears too degraded to link her parents to her death.
‘ amid the rash of reports last September suggesting there was DNA proof linking Madeleine’s parents to her death, the same police source emphasised that the DNA samples had proved to be degraded, incomplete, possibly contaminated and inconclusive’.

It’s really just another instance of odd behaviour by the Mccanns. Surely they would want to be round and about and show an interest when PJ are coming over to progress the case.
*******
Do you think the PJ is not aware?is not following them?
It doesnt surprise me at all
It is just in line with their general behavour isnt it?
They are masters in timing thats for sure
Bah…may be they are just taking as much “freedom” as they can before they are shut in or being under proper house arrest
Also, they have shown they werent really interested in looking for Madeleine. They”d rather PRETEND to look for her just for the sake of cash.
They are
I DO dislike them soooooo much grrrrrrrrrr

Jo, actually I am serious, I’m desperate to find this friend of mine again, and I’ve exhausted every avenue I could find. If I can get the e-mail to send something I’ll mail her details to you, and I would appreciate if you could see if you could even find her in a telephone directory over there … thanks a mil, you’re a honey

A puzzle for you all:
A man and his son are in a plane crash.
the man sadly dies, and the son is rushed to hospital.
Arriving in the operating theatre the surgeons says:
‘I can’t operate on that boy. He’s my son.’
How so?
