Madeleine McCann: The McCanns’ Return To Portugal, A Year Of Looking And Ben Affleck
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN: “McCanns risk arrest over visit”
KATE and Gerry McCann may risk arrest by returning to Portugal for the one-year anniversary of their daughter’s disappearance.
The couple are prepared to take the chance in a last ditch attempt to revive interest in four-year-old Maddie, missing since May 3.
Any facts?
The doctors, both 39, left the Praia da Luz resort last September – 48 hours after being made official suspects over the mystery.
Gerry and Kate McCann are Doctors. Such are the facts.
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “They want to be there for the first anniversary. Going out there would send the strongest possible message that Madeleine could still be alive and the search for her should continue.”
SYDNEY MORNING HERALD: “Turning the tabloids”
Ben Affleck is Gone Baby Gone:
Almost as troublesome was the story’s unforeseen and unintended resemblance to a real-life case of child kidnapping that hit the headlines in the months it was being filmed. That was the disappearance in Portugal last year of British girl Madeleine McCann, who was of a similar age and appearance to the film’s kidnapping victim and had a name eerily similar to the character in the Lehane novel, Amanda McCready.
McCready has disappeared amid the squalor of her south Boston neighbourhood. The police are out in formation, as are the television news vans, antennas raised high, all but trembling for blood.
Madeleine McCann: That’s entertainment

I believe that if the unfortunate incident had happened in the UK and not in a foreign country, the parents would have reacted completely different to being questioned by the authorities. I said before: Fear of the unknown (local laws, police systems, etc.)

there is nothing to fear except fear itself. I do not believe for one second that they was fearful of getting a slap on the wrists otherwise they wouldn’t have hired the people they did.

We’ve had the Super-Huge phone bill experience with Testosterone Boy who is SOOOOO in love. The love of his life phones him now. He refused to cut the grass today, so somehow I had to give him £10.00 to go bowling. Go figure.
As for the Oestrogen Kid, I am up to my eyebrows in one-coat emulsion at the moment, having had to make up for cruelly giving in to her demands a few years ago and painting her bedroom the obligatory pink and purple; apparently there is now nothing more dreadful for a Suga-Girl-Aloud-Babe-Spice-Rhianna-Wannabe than for her mum to ‘make’ her have a bedroom so uncool.
I have a feeling that at the dawn of man, these confrontations were avoided because as soon as Testosterone Cave-Boy could lash an arrow head to a stick, he just expertly disembowelled his mum and dad, invited Neanjelina over for a bit of chargrilled parent and set up home in the family cave to await the same fate from his own son and heir.

Isn’t the Brussels meeting next Thursday, 10 April?
If so, that’s before the UK interviews are scheduled to end, and well before they have been translated and analysed.
So - I do think they will go (unless the powers that be in Brussels notice the irony and cancel), but I await the events after their return.

You said I was devious the other week because I posted tinyurl links. I asked you what was devious about it but got no reply from you. Maybe that’s the kind of thing noseycow meant by saying you always have a go at someone?

Re: Sky News………..
at least they’ve all stopped calling him the ’step-father’ and demeaning the formal role that can be very beneficial to children!

Events in Dewsbury aren’t very pretty are they?
Seems like there could be quite a network there. It’s nice that people get caught and locked up for such offences but it’s sad to think it happens in the first place.

‘Spongebob - everytime you post you have a go at someone. Either the quality of their debate, the way they write their posts, or some such superior comment.
If you dislike everyone so much why don’t you just stay in the elitist forums where you can discuss with M&A all the low lives that ‘post obsessivley’ on the madeleine thread’
- ah apologies. I didn’t realise the point was to agree and applaud all the posts.
-Forums.. elitist..? How so..?

Zugzwang - good analogy.
Yes, some conflict between the parents will be interesting if we observe that. Isn’t it all reminiscent of Comical Ali just prior to the 2nd Iraq war?
I don’t really think they’ll be attending that event in Brussels. I think that was more last-ditch spin to make it look like the McCanns are ambassadors of childcare. It might fool some of the public but not the people who count.

Shannon Matthews case:
“A 45-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and a 25-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.”
“We believe that the two women have some family link to Shannon Matthews, or at least to Craig Meehan, the partner of Shannon’s mother”

It’s looking gloomy for little Shannon. Ages don’t match the mother, though.
How quickly they can arrest someone on obstruction of justice, when in the McCann case after almost a year, no arrests have been forthcoming. The McCann case is not a clear cut case, and it could never be solved, IMO.

Lone Pigeon,
I’m basing it on fear in general, which drives humans in many circumstances and under many different situations. Just ask a psychologist.
fear of what exactly? if you are innocent and your daughter is missing what are you to fear? The bogey man?

Thanks Nosey. That product is natural, extract of the root Black Cohosh, and it has been extensively clinically trialled. Worked wonders for me and is sold over the counter here in Australia.
