Madeleine McCann: The McCanns’ Return To Portugal, A Year Of Looking And Ben Affleck
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN: “McCanns risk arrest over visit”
KATE and Gerry McCann may risk arrest by returning to Portugal for the one-year anniversary of their daughter’s disappearance.
The couple are prepared to take the chance in a last ditch attempt to revive interest in four-year-old Maddie, missing since May 3.
Any facts?
The doctors, both 39, left the Praia da Luz resort last September – 48 hours after being made official suspects over the mystery.
Gerry and Kate McCann are Doctors. Such are the facts.
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “They want to be there for the first anniversary. Going out there would send the strongest possible message that Madeleine could still be alive and the search for her should continue.”
SYDNEY MORNING HERALD: “Turning the tabloids”
Ben Affleck is Gone Baby Gone:
Almost as troublesome was the story’s unforeseen and unintended resemblance to a real-life case of child kidnapping that hit the headlines in the months it was being filmed. That was the disappearance in Portugal last year of British girl Madeleine McCann, who was of a similar age and appearance to the film’s kidnapping victim and had a name eerily similar to the character in the Lehane novel, Amanda McCready.
McCready has disappeared amid the squalor of her south Boston neighbourhood. The police are out in formation, as are the television news vans, antennas raised high, all but trembling for blood.

No, I’m not condoning that. They should face the music, but we were talking about why the refused to answer questions and left Portugal. And my answer was “fear of the unknown”.

… guilty …. of neglect, but we have no proof of anything else. Therefore and as far as I’m concerned, it could be that they are innocent? We don’t know at this stage
so you are saying then that it was ok to flee the punishment of neglect?

At the point of the interviews and the subsequent declaration of the arguido status, they must have know that the neglect factor was punishable by jail term in Portugal. They would not risk staying there and perhaps spending 3 years in a Portuguese jail.
So are you condining the fact that they have done that and shouldn’t face the punishment???

Yes I know! Spinning to the end but as we all know, precession takes over and a spinning object starts to wobble. I think the wobble started a few weeks ago.

That’s right. They didn’t expect a slap on the wrist. IMO they didn’t know what to expect, knowing themselves that they had left all of those children alone night after night, anything could happen, so they took off pretty quickly back to where they felt safer, i.e. their own country.
i.e they were guilty……

Sort of correct but not entirely. I have no idea why I get leaped on if I post a URL on my site. I’ve only used it for months to serve as a repository to link to a photo I have uploaded. It may be a short URL but M&A pounce on me if I provide one. Like I say, there’s no dishonesty on my part at all. My site is free, has no adverts, and I really don’t care whether anyone looks at it or not. It was my pet project and serves no other purpose. I’ll defend my corner like I had to do this week with Cheryl calling me racist but generally my having a go is after someone else struck the first blow. Actually make that “always” and not “generally”.
And talking of Cheryl and her stupid accusation, I remembered last night how I appeared on national TV in the USA last year on a civil rights event where not only was I an active participant but I was talking to the nation on how Martin Luther King would be disappointed at the lack of progress on this subject in the last 40 years. Talking of which…today is the 40th anniversary of the great man’s assassination…

Hi everyone, knowing how I never paste properly, Iv” put the thread first. This is
an article from SOS Madeleine, apparently the rogoratory letters have been compromised by British Police divulging information. If true, it could be serious, anyway read for yourselves, it”s a long article and you”ll have to scroll down the page.
Have you heard the latest rumour ? Two women, known to the family have been
arrested in connection with Shannon.
April 4th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
The 2 Shannon arrests have been named as Craig’s Mother and Sister

As I recall, the term I used was dishonest. And I’m sure I replied, but I could be wrong. But to clarify, it is because I like to know where I am going, and while a tinyurl can be justified for a long url, yours are short, so why hide it? And I believe you said you were not dishonest and that the mods objected.. why, I don’t know. That was the conversation as I remember it.
I can’t see an issue with ‘having a go’ if that’s what you choose to call it…you are not innocent of that either. What is the agenda for ‘full membership’ on this board then.? Clearly you are one of the popular ones - who sets the agenda?

“I thought about it and my guess is they won’t go and it’ll become a no-show by them due to another more pressing situation in Leicestershire.”
But it’s excellent to override any headlines concerning the interviews, which could otherwise leave the impression that there might be at least a slight option of anyone being charged eventually. The timing really is ingenious!

” I believe that if the unfortunate incident had happened in the UK and not in a foreign country, the parents would have reacted completely different to being questioned by the authorities. I said before: Fear of the unknown (local laws, police systems, etc.) ”
But they had help from the UK. If you have your country’s ambassador (or one of his officers) sitting beside you, there is not much to fear - at least if it’s an EU country. Unless you are in danger to be caught in the crossfire.

I thought about it and my guess is they won’t go and it’ll become a no-show by them due to another more pressing situation in Leicestershire. Of course, you could be right but the 10th is in the midst of this critical stuff by the police. That’s why I can’t see them going to it. Plus, as you say, the MEP’s inboxes are going to be overflowing by then.

Talking of erroneous titles, this morning in the US there was a pregnant man on Oprah.
Yes, do a double-take…”man”.
It didn’t really explain in detail how this man got pregnant apart from saying his wife impregnated him with a syringe and sperm bought from a bank. I looked it up on the Internet and sure enough it says “pregnant man”. In any case, on Oprah you could see this man’s bulge in the flesh.
However…
Closer inspection reveals that this transgendered person just had his boobs removed a decade ago. What I’d like to know is how or why society accepts this person who is obviously a woman to be known as a “man”?
