Madeleine McCann: The McCanns’ Return To Portugal, A Year Of Looking And Ben Affleck
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN: “McCanns risk arrest over visit”
KATE and Gerry McCann may risk arrest by returning to Portugal for the one-year anniversary of their daughter’s disappearance.
The couple are prepared to take the chance in a last ditch attempt to revive interest in four-year-old Maddie, missing since May 3.
Any facts?
The doctors, both 39, left the Praia da Luz resort last September – 48 hours after being made official suspects over the mystery.
Gerry and Kate McCann are Doctors. Such are the facts.
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “They want to be there for the first anniversary. Going out there would send the strongest possible message that Madeleine could still be alive and the search for her should continue.”
SYDNEY MORNING HERALD: “Turning the tabloids”
Ben Affleck is Gone Baby Gone:
Almost as troublesome was the story’s unforeseen and unintended resemblance to a real-life case of child kidnapping that hit the headlines in the months it was being filmed. That was the disappearance in Portugal last year of British girl Madeleine McCann, who was of a similar age and appearance to the film’s kidnapping victim and had a name eerily similar to the character in the Lehane novel, Amanda McCready.
McCready has disappeared amid the squalor of her south Boston neighbourhood. The police are out in formation, as are the television news vans, antennas raised high, all but trembling for blood.
Madeleine McCann: That’s entertainment

Note that personally I have ever had the misfortune to meet (to my knowledge) any one who is abusive in any way to a child or to an animal. If I did, I’m sure I’ act in a responsible manner.
Its only here that you ‘meet’ people who defend neglect. I’m sure that in the physical world most if not all the people who defend the McCanns would not do so.

True, but there are of course basic moral duties which are not open to normal debate, taking life, harming a child (or anyone!).
There are also exceptions, such as it being acceptable to harm those who harm others less able to protect themselves - e.g. parents who bully their children using ’star rewards’ or harm them by leaving them alone and unprotected at night in a strange foreign environment
I also believe that manners and politeness may be waived when the ‘opponent’ is supporting those who harm or whose actions rsult in harm to a child. After all, a blind eye is often turned when someone harms a child molester - is it not?

If you have children and you act like this, you should reconsider your behaviour.”
That’s another matter. One should always be willing to reconsider one’s behaviour according to one’s ever increasing experience of life.

I used no winkie, I think the way you add to the gang when someone is being attacked by a pack of child abuse supporters is appalling.
You are clearly a nasty and ‘genuine’ bully - who has the cheek to call those who are defending children from errant adults ‘bullies’!
I also recall you being prudish - so I deduced you were not an experienced parent.

Julie 508. Well well. I’m really surprised… I’d put you in the camp of those who disagree with me (and who I dsiagree with) but who were okay outside of that.
I see I was wrong! we live and learn as my old mother would say!

Must have hit a nerve - she is a tory! I knew it. But Mrs Bouquet had a son, got any kids coolandcalm or do you have Kate McCanns motherly instincts? I’d hazard a guess that you have no children of your own.

My post 127 was intended to be a general response to a number of posts from yesterday’s thread and one from today’s. My impression was that those posts had come from you and Gandolf but on checking I can see that they came from Gandolf alone.
So my apologies for addressing post 127 to you, this was in error. If it’s any comfort I have variously been accused of being Tony Bennett, Soothsayer, Gandolf, Coldwater’s accolite and an agent provocateur for Carter Ruck, none of which is true.

And we all know that you want to cut it off me because you like a bit of the nanny. I think you might have to do more than cut it off if you want to have your way with me. Anyway, I don’t like docs.

I know what you mean. Accusing someone of being racist is harsh and extreme - and very offensive if wrong as it was when she wrote her post.
TinyUrl is a great invention but I do agree sometimes it’s misleading. There’s too much scope for it to be abused by people wanting to send nasty material. So I agree with you on this aspect.

Sorry but just because they are doctors does not mean they can behave in a negligent manner. It takes only a moment for a child to fall and suffer injury (for example). It is not acceptable to fail to deliver their duty of care.
What you are saying is exactly why I feel so strongly that they need to be seen to be punished. We cannot set this precedent where parents leave little ones alone in an apartment and go drinking. They even added to the risk by leaving the door open.
Surely you see the dangers in allowing these supposedly responsible people to escape without sanction.
It is NOT acceptable to leave children in the manner they did. I actually think they left their children for longer and went further afield - hence their reluctance to face the PJ in Portugal. They know they did worse - what they seem to be failing to see is that it will come out eventually, even if they didnt harm her themselves (though it does seem increasingly likely to me that Kate did in fact cause the whole thing).
If you have children and you act like this, you should reconsider your behaviour.

400 False Flag
Whatever happens over the next few weeks - ultimately it will be a battle to win hearts and minds of the public in Portugal and UK, not just by Team McCann but by the politicians and media we would like to trust. It won’t be the same hearts and minds that are won of course.

As the person who succeeded in castrating you intellectually, I’d like to put in my two pennorth.
My only regret is that we were 98% off topic for an hour or so that night and, therefore, might be accused of wasting bandwidth.
But, aside from that, neither of us had a bad word from M+A and I believe we both conducted our exchange wittily and without personal insult. N’est-ce pas?
I have no personal beef with you and we’ve been there, done that, which is why I ignored your jibe the other night.
I don’t mind a bit of banter and word play, but I don’t generally go around insulting other posters.

I have to disagree wtih you on this one. The fact that any parent could even remotely think that leaving little ones alone so they can go and have some fun is okay, just makes me cringe. Little ones have no voice and no means of protection except their parents/carer. They trust us blindly to protect them and do the right thing by them. They deserve all our time and effort and never our selfishness. Unless Maddie died of natural causes (which I doubt), she would be alive today if the parents would have watched her all the time (as they should have).
Okay, now I’m gone.
Bye everbody.
