KATE and Gerry McCann may risk arrest by returning to Portugal for the one-year anniversary of their daughter’s disappearance.
The couple are prepared to take the chance in a last ditch attempt to revive interest in four-year-old Maddie, missing since May 3.

The doctors, both 39, left the Praia da Luz resort last September – 48 hours after being made official suspects over the mystery.

Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “They want to be there for the first anniversary. Going out there would send the strongest possible message that Madeleine could still be alive and the search for her should continue.”

Almost as troublesome was the story’s unforeseen and unintended resemblance to a real-life case of child kidnapping that hit the headlines in the months it was being filmed. That was the disappearance in Portugal last year of British girl Madeleine McCann, who was of a similar age and appearance to the film’s kidnapping victim and had a name eerily similar to the character in the Lehane novel, Amanda McCready.
McCready has disappeared amid the squalor of her south Boston neighbourhood. The police are out in formation, as are the television news vans, antennas raised high, all but trembling for blood.

I only know one person who doesnt accept the McCanns are weird and thinks they are trying to protect their careers (knowing that as doctors they are very likely to not have careers if they are revealed in any way to have been negligent).
The one person still thinks they failed in their duty of care.
Its the publicity and the connections to Government which protects them, many believe.

Indeed I do not want to prove that you intended to say that children should ever be abused. Nor do I presume to know what you think, better than yourself. I suggested your command English as a non native language could be a reason for ‘misinterpretation’ of what you were intending to say.. in effect, I was trying to loosen the rope you (inadvertently?) had tightened on yourself.

- Let me be clear. This a zero tolerance issue. Furthermore, there is no evidence that looking at such things prevents further abuse. On the contrary, there is evidence that violent, depraved images feeds fantasy and interest.
But if you insist that this is some kind of crime prevention method; that it stops further abuse, then you can be the one who offers your children for photos as some misplaced community service so that other children will not be abused . I do not mean to be inflamatory, but that is what it come down to

They claim they checked her ‘every half hour’ yet weren’t ‘clock watching’ - they claim their friends also checked their kids, yet they didn’t check their friends kids. The father claims he saw the child last at 9:10 and then alters his friends account of seeing an abductor to the same time he saw his child last. His wife finds the child missing, we are told. Immediately she shouts ‘abduction’ - not even checking with her friend next door in case she has the child, this despite the friends checking the McCanns children.
All this and more we are supposed to accept without question. Yet you ‘lean toward’ these people? I dont beleive you are that dumb, so whats your thinking! Are you close to these people? Or perhaps you do this too? You have already displayed previously a rather nasty streak - gloating over my discomfort. Is that all it is? Your character?

I understood that Marie was saying there are levels of wrongness. A bit like speeding.
Going 35 MPH in a 30 zone is illegal but the penalty for that should be less that the penalty for going 70 in a 30 zone.
She was saying that posessing pictures, while wrong immoral etc etc is less ‘evil’ than actually performing the acts.
In this case i’m not sure if i agree - but i thought her point was clear enough.

Bob, you were quite right to take exception, I looked at your link. Unfortunately you were sucked in by someone looking for an effect.
Every day on popular radio a point of view is expressed with the intent to get people to phone in to provide “entertainment” and keep people listening. John Gaunt is a prime example.
It’s a shame well meaning people are exploited in this way.

I don’t agree with a lot of things posted but try to argue against the points raised and not the posters writing ability / intelligence.
Marie is a thoughtful and intelligent poster and i felt that she was hurt by your comments about her english.
