Madeleine McCann: The McCanns’ Return To Portugal, A Year Of Looking And Ben Affleck
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN: “McCanns risk arrest over visit”
KATE and Gerry McCann may risk arrest by returning to Portugal for the one-year anniversary of their daughter’s disappearance.
The couple are prepared to take the chance in a last ditch attempt to revive interest in four-year-old Maddie, missing since May 3.
Any facts?
The doctors, both 39, left the Praia da Luz resort last September – 48 hours after being made official suspects over the mystery.
Gerry and Kate McCann are Doctors. Such are the facts.
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “They want to be there for the first anniversary. Going out there would send the strongest possible message that Madeleine could still be alive and the search for her should continue.”
SYDNEY MORNING HERALD: “Turning the tabloids”
Ben Affleck is Gone Baby Gone:
Almost as troublesome was the story’s unforeseen and unintended resemblance to a real-life case of child kidnapping that hit the headlines in the months it was being filmed. That was the disappearance in Portugal last year of British girl Madeleine McCann, who was of a similar age and appearance to the film’s kidnapping victim and had a name eerily similar to the character in the Lehane novel, Amanda McCready.
McCready has disappeared amid the squalor of her south Boston neighbourhood. The police are out in formation, as are the television news vans, antennas raised high, all but trembling for blood.

You missed out an option! The posters here supporting the McCanns do not want to find Madeleine - they want the McCanns to be found not guilty (without the inconvenience of a trial). Given the option of finding Madeleine alive and it being a scam by the McCanns, they’d rather not find her.
Being direct in my approach to child neglectors and their supporters is in my view acceptable.

My hopes are based on actual possibility, not in the highly unlikely. Madeleine didn’t leave the apartment alive in my considered opinion.
The McCanns will not be treated even handedly, sadly. I suspect this is all a prejudged game we are seeing unfold. Hence my only hope for justice for Madeleine - a likely hope as they will not be able to keep their whereabouts on the 6 days in May a secret for much longer - why else have they been warned by their legal team to be careful when they return to Portugal? They are likely to be completely exposed to a charge of abandonment - and I do not refer to the 3rd of May 2007.

See Carmen’s post earlier - I think our laundry de-wrinkling woes might not be of interest to everyone. Off out now, catch you later.

I fail to see why people post bland unsupported statements that Madeleine McCann was the victim of abduction, there is no evidence that she was. I suspect she was killed in the apartment.
I do not believe that those who peddle the idea but ignore other theories are deluding themselves but seeking to delude others.
Remember, Kate McCann did not check with Tanner - who was next door. She loudly proclaimed abduction. Yet it is alleged that the friends had in some way been involved in looking after the McCanns children. Despite this, the McCanns checked only their own children.
These ‘facts’ are the most revealing of all that we know regarding the case.

Noseycow… have you seen the thread about the foreskin-facecream? very funny. Yampster on top form!

Enhanced google translate:
British already know all about PJ’s mission in England
César Santos
Kate and Gerry will not be questioned by the Judiciary Police
Marisa Rodrigues
The Judicial Police (PJ) will not have an easy job in England where, as of Monday, the letter rogatory in the case Madeleine McCann will be put in force. The plan for the action, as well as the content of the document, which should have remained a judicial secret, reached the hands of the British press, even before the departure of Portuguese researchers.
According to what JN found yesterday, British journalists were informed by sources, they say from the police, of the steps that will take place next week. When, where and who will be heard were some of the data that was accessed. Even the hotel where the PJ will be housed was reported to them. What, in the opinion of source connected to the research, “is the evidence that the leakage of information of the police departed from Leicester, that shows not being interested in cooperating in the investigation, damaging it by making public the intentions of PJ.”
This means that the group of three detectives, led by the coordinator of PJ of Portimão, Paulo Rebelo, will not surprise the 24 people that will be interviewed. Most - 14 - will be determined by the Portuguese authorities. This number includes the group of friends of the couple McCann, now known as “Tapas 7″. The other interrogations were requested by parents of Madeleine. This is the case of Clarence Mitchell, spokesman for the couple, Justine McGuiness, who held the same job, and the psychologist who has followed Kate.
The arrival of PJ is scheduled for 12.20 pm on Monday. That same day there will be some interrogations, none of them considered very relevant to the investigation. The next day, the “Tapas 7″ will begin to be interviewed. Jane Tanner, which guarantees having seen a man carrying a child in his arms that she believes was Madeleine, will be the first. The McCann, as the JN already said, will not be questioned by decision of the prosecutor, who considered the investigation a “waste of time”.
The couple will be traveling on Thursday to Brussels, where they will meet with MEPs involved in the creation of an alert system for European missing or abducted children. “Pure coincidence,” ensures the spokesman of the couple.
Good Morning all.
I posted another thread yesterday from SOS Madeleine……..this was posted an hour
ago on Sky Discussions, now will you accept that something is going on?

Good morning.

Ian - Behave
- what was it you said last night .
Something about only ‘pro’s getting nasty’….
So which is better - a middle aged woman lossing her looks etc etc as you describe and therefore wanting to find madeleine.
Or
A middle aged man in the same situation rushing out to buy a flash sports car and find suitable young blonde bimbo to put in the front seat…

IMO she was killed not long after being taken.

So, the clock is ticking, not toward justice but toward learning.
If I were to condense my hopes into a single thought it would be this, that ultimately the truth of the whereabouts of the McCanns in relation to their children on every one of the nights of the Portguese sojourn will be revealed.
Then the reality of the neglect of the failed parents will be revealed and we will see why it is that they need their new careers!

There is a McCann gene, it makes DNA unrecognisable. It also blots out logic.
Its a strange type of gene, more a virus actually, as it spreads - killing the original DNA. Some recover (Daisy) but some are lost causes (you know of whom I speak).

You could be right about that [the 'happy ever after gene'].
Strange though that some sightings blast my hope -against all odds- that she’s still alive [like the sighting in France] whilst others don’t [like the sighting in Devon or this one] and even make me very sceptical.

Actually two of the most ‘interesting’ were men. The Councillor nutter in Devon, the taxi driver .
I guess middle aged women [edit] are going through crisis (usually hormonal and menopausal) - losing looks, replacing the looks by positioning themselves socially. Maybe is more accurate to say ‘women attention seeking’?
Its the ‘Hyacinth Bucket’ syndrome.

800…C’n'C
I have a ‘time served cynic’ gene that makes me suspicious of all sorts of things that I should perhaps sometimes take at face value. It get me in all sorts of bother.
This also gives me a healthy(?) mistrust of spin, and people who push a single point of view to extremes; hence my reluctance to get too involved in these threads, unless it’s on a trivial, peripheral and usually smartalec theme.
Right…I’m off.

Theory valid if Madeleine had been kidnapped which is not the case
Madeleine remains missing and nothing nor anybody will bring her back
April 5th, 2008 at 11:03 am
Totje….. do you think its because women desperately want to find her ‘out there’? to spot her in a crowd and save her? we all have a ‘happy ever after’ gene and this story seems to fuel it.
Maybe wishful thinking overcomes common sense in emotional cases like this.

Hi guys (pc crash again

Incredible hey??? They wont give up
What a pathetic bunch although to be fair they might have nothing to do with it.And I think it is the case.

Exactly - since when did Madeleine look like Little Orphan Annie?
April 5th, 2008 at 10:55 am
Did anybody notice that most ’sightings’ that are reported in the papers are by women?
Aren’t men observant or are women too imaginative?
Don’t know about the gender of the people in the early days and the non-published sightings though. Would be interesting if police has statistics about that [also in other cases of missing children/people].
