The doctors, both 39, left the Praia da Luz resort last September – 48 hours after being made official suspects over the mystery.

Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “They want to be there for the first anniversary. Going out there would send the strongest possible message that Madeleine could still be alive and the search for her should continue.”

Almost as troublesome was the story’s unforeseen and unintended resemblance to a real-life case of child kidnapping that hit the headlines in the months it was being filmed. That was the disappearance in Portugal last year of British girl Madeleine McCann, who was of a similar age and appearance to the film’s kidnapping victim and had a name eerily similar to the character in the Lehane novel, Amanda McCready.
McCready has disappeared amid the squalor of her south Boston neighbourhood. The police are out in formation, as are the television news vans, antennas raised high, all but trembling for blood.

Once the facts of their whereabouts on the ‘6 days in May’ are proven, as they must be - and should easily enough be - then everything else will fall neatly into place.
It is worrying about the complexities of the stories they have told and building complex theories which has detracted from this fundamental.
If they are revealed to have left their three children for longer periods and travelled further afield, they are nailed - the public outrage at being fooled will end their attempts to build their new careers and their word would be doubted not just by the often silent majority - but by all right thinking people.
The spin from Clarence, the support of millionaires, the existence or not of evidence of worse crimes will all be irrelevant.
I’m convinced that this is the fundamental issue and will be the ultimate decider of the fate of the McCanns - not DNA!
Did they or did they not leave their children for longer periods and on nights other than the 3rd of May 2007?

I see also an element of playing for time. Certainly the best outcome would be a solution of the case, and not the shelving.

They are just polishing their marbles, shining up their halos, puttng on their martyred expressions of being wronged and playing ST Katamaria and Gerald the next Pope, while spouting their rubbish in the EP. Looking for sympathy, before they appear in court in Portugal.

Sorry, I was busy for a while and just noticed your post.
It was said a long time ago that the Tapas 7 only had one Lawyer between them. You
kn ow the old saying “Forewarned is Forearmed”, if the Tapas 7 statements do not
agree with those of other witnesses, namely Tapas Bar Staff etc, then it would be advisable to have a legal opinion as to how you should respond.
There have been a lot of rumours and speculation , none of us know the truth only those involved, but if the PJ evidence has been compromised by leaks, I think
it”s disgusting.

Ferdinand. I’m sorry I don’t see how it provides a face saving way out.
If the PJ wanted to drop/shelve this case team mcc /met 3 have given them plenty of opportunities over the last 6 months. All they had to do was announce that they were taking one of the sightings seriousley.

It provides a face saving way out. There were the inconsistencies, but it was all due to language problems, misunderstanding, confusion in the first days etc. Now it will all be ironed out, and nobody will be left to blame for the mess.

If that is the case then all of the Tapas 7 are truly stuffed. Can you imagine the effect in Sky pounds out hour after hour how these parents were ………………meters away and on which nights.

I think that was about general advice overt the legal proceedings which could have followed. That lawyer was not supposed to actually “defend” them.

I think that press reports from ages ago about two changing their story may have been based on fact.
Team mcc have grouped all the tapas 7 together with one (hand picked) legal representative.
So when JT (for example) tells team mcc that she doesn’t need their lawyer, could it be because she’s employed one of her own… ?
or is it just wishful thinking…

I suspect this visit by the PJ is nothing more than a publicity exercise.
I’d like everyone to stop messing about and reveal the whereabouts of the McCanns in relation to their children on the 6 ‘days in May’.
I suspect that they wandered a little further afield than the distance of their backgarden!
Never mind all the other stuff, that is key to justice for Madeleine.
Remember - the basis of their defence is that they checked every half hour and the distance was ‘just like at home’. Once these points are dismissed, they have nothing to defend them from the charge of abandonment. I suspect this is why they are advised not to return to the Portuguese jurisdiction.

Yes they do - one poster explicitly confirmed he supported their methods. Another poster (an ‘author’) refused to answer when asked if their methods were ‘inadvisable’.
I do not accept their right to have the view as I do not accept the right of someone to state they beat their children beyond the allowance of the law (yes, striking a child is legal in the UK undr some circumstances!).
Incidentally, you could never be a ’spongebob’ (love the cartoon, do not like the poster!)

Also of course as they are voluntary, everyone has to agree so therefore they to be asked in the first place.

asked would presumably be in them, so the Lawyers for the prime witnesses would
have a distinct advantage .

Ian - The divide I was referring to was between the sexes and had nothing to do with the so called pro’s and anti’s.
I think that your arguments are good, but you degrade them when you start on about pro’s beind child neglectors/ supporters of child neglectors.
You know that life is not so simple and people do not fit nicely into catagories. I have not read anyone on here who supports the mcc child care practices.
On your course you must have studied or be studying case summaries. Where during a trial does a lawyer start dissing the oposition? They base their arguments/summaries and points on the facts that are presented to them.
Your posts are correct, often insightful and stand up on their own without the need to make anything personal.

How could knowing who would be interviewed when damage the investigation?
I’m sure the friends [and may be other people too] already phone eachother like “when it’s your turn? Mine is monday”. The group of pj won’t surprise the 24 people, because the interviews are scheduled. These people know when it’s their turn.
