Madeleine McCann: The McCanns’ Return To Portugal, A Year Of Looking And Ben Affleck
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN: “McCanns risk arrest over visit”
KATE and Gerry McCann may risk arrest by returning to Portugal for the one-year anniversary of their daughter’s disappearance.
The couple are prepared to take the chance in a last ditch attempt to revive interest in four-year-old Maddie, missing since May 3.
Any facts?
The doctors, both 39, left the Praia da Luz resort last September – 48 hours after being made official suspects over the mystery.
Gerry and Kate McCann are Doctors. Such are the facts.
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “They want to be there for the first anniversary. Going out there would send the strongest possible message that Madeleine could still be alive and the search for her should continue.”
SYDNEY MORNING HERALD: “Turning the tabloids”
Ben Affleck is Gone Baby Gone:
Almost as troublesome was the story’s unforeseen and unintended resemblance to a real-life case of child kidnapping that hit the headlines in the months it was being filmed. That was the disappearance in Portugal last year of British girl Madeleine McCann, who was of a similar age and appearance to the film’s kidnapping victim and had a name eerily similar to the character in the Lehane novel, Amanda McCready.
McCready has disappeared amid the squalor of her south Boston neighbourhood. The police are out in formation, as are the television news vans, antennas raised high, all but trembling for blood.

Wasn’t that the sketch from the lady who said someone came to her door begging for an orphanage? I’m already confused.

Val,
the 3A site is quite complicated to follow and I just look at it every-now-end-then and stumble across certain things or follow links posted here by others from time to time.
The site is http://www.the3arguidos.net
Then go to the one that says “Justice for Madeleine”, where there are lists of different threads you can read. One of the most interesting ones is the one “The Case as of Today - Coldwater Thread”, but there are dozens of others that I sometimes read, depending on the heading. Have a look at top right corner and go to the last page of the thread you chose, therefore you don’t have to read the 100 pages or more that some of these threads have.
Hope this helps.

Agree with you on Grapes of Wrath…..another is for me, Inherit the Wind about
Darwin”s theory and the Schoolmaster charged with discussing it in the classroom.
Recent favourites are “The English Patient, The Usual Suspects……the ending of that
was jaw dropping!!!! Midnight Express ,with a few comedies thrown in. I also love
Happy Feet, an animated Cartoon about Penguins, Chicken Run and The Ice Age.
As you can see I have a very catholic taste in Films and Music!!!!!!

Interesting to read the Sun’s article again. Tanner say “They did this thing called a cognitive technique, where they put you back in the moment”. Never heard that before. WHO did “the thing”? The police? One of the Tapas doctors?

I can’t see how a normal mother wouldn’t run to help and comfort if her small child was sick to the point of needing her bedclothes to be changed. A child vomiting can mean the beginning of meningitis, or such thing. But even without thinking of such illness, I wouldn’t sit and wait.

Jane, from Exeter, Devon, said: “He had his face turned away and it was dark.
so then how the hell did she then come up with this?..

I was 14 when she saw it then. (Meaning I turned 66 two weeks ago). Not a problem for me.
Old as it is, it still is for me the film that would come first to my mind if I was asked what is the best film I ever saw. Second maybe would be “The Grapes of Wrath”. Third : “The Seven Samouraï”, Japonese version of “the 7 mercenaries”. (Actually “The 7 mercenaries” was a version after the one I am talking about). And another one, German, about an abductor, I don’t remember the English or German title. Châtelaine gave it to me, but I have forgotten already. Age, you know.

Of course, the PJ has examined all the inconsistences we are all speculating about here long time ago: the shutters, the window, the eggmen, O’Brian’s girl being shick, the dirty sheets…. I’m getting optimistic! I think we do have case, and soon will have charged people

Yes, IMO, they are guilty of not being there when they should have been. More I don’t know at this stage.

What has always bothered me is why the Mc’s have never suspected their friends. Even Karen Matthews said she cant trust anyone anymore. How come the Mc’s are so trusting of Tanner and O’brien, when they are the very two people who could have had a hand in things. yet another reason that leads me to believe the Mc’s know more than they are letting on.

There seems to be inside info in the 3A threads, but on the other hand, we can’t be sure of that either. It is interesting reading though.

I totally agree, but with all the high profile protection the McCanns have, if the latest
is true that the rogoratory letters have been compromised by the British Police
leaking information…….that would never have been sanctioned without Government
complicity IMO. We shall see, I just hope justice is seen to be done.

In one of the threads of 3A they are speculating in great detail as to JT and her partner’s involvement, which would be more than just a mear sighting of someone. Nothing to do with a child having been sick that night or similar. All to do allegedly with concealment and movement form one place to another of a corpse.

Exactly! I would say that everybody lies in this story. At least, the Mc’s and the couple Tanner/Obrien, for sure (apart from the team).
Do you all realize of this? It’s easy to lie to one person very long, or many people for a while, but many people, very long… How difficult!
April 5th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
BabyJane - I know, its not normal, they dont seem to ever be following up on the sightings themselves. I really believe its because they know it cant possibly be M, because they know very well where she is.

Oh I am glad you heard of the film. It is a masterpiece, which few people know, and it is all about the problems that are of interest to us here. Children in great danger, bad people preaching the Bible, good, understanding people who aren’t fooled by the evil ones, and the neighbours, blind to the plight of the children when they are at risk, and howling with the wolves once the evil one has been found out. Yes Robert Mitchum was in it, a preacher, with “love” written on one hand, and “hate” on the other. It is terrifying in a way, but as it uncovers the truth, it is very satisfying too. Also, the quality of the pictures in black and white is perfect, and the narration is beautiful. It isn’t humorous, it has a poetical value, which is in tune with the main characters, who are children. Perhaps by googling, it would be possible to get a copy of it. I’ll see. The Americans have really produced a few masterpieces in the cinema field.
Was it you too who spoke of 3. 10 to Yuma, recently? I love it, though it isn’t one of the best! I have seen it a number of times, and always, at the end, when the rain starts falling, and the land gets green, I get my eyes filled with tears! Ridiculous.

As far as we know, JT was back in the Tapas bar while O”brien tended to their daughter, very strange!!!! Also, didn”t Obrien say he had asked for a clean sheet, but
OC have denied this. It will all come out in the wash HA HA.
April 5th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Anyway, we are all speculating with the information we have, and that’s quite silly… God knows how many information, and how relevant and important, those goog men will have!
April 5th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
942,
Hi just_me, exactly. I wonder why theses sightings were never followed by an outcry of the parents: “Why didn’t you DO anything if you thought you saw Madeleine was??”
Would have been a totally normal reaction for devastated parents, wouldn’t it?
