Woman Denied Daughter’s Kidney Because State Owns Your Body
“SICK MUM IS DENIED DAUGHTER’S KIDNEY.”
Not sick in the pejorative sense but in the way of Rachel Leake being ill.
Before Laura Ashworth, 21, died from an asthma attack she told family and friends she wanted to donate one of her kidneys to her mother.
Mrs Leake had a kidney transplant five years ago, but the donated organ failed last year. Now she needs dialysis in hospital three times a week to stay alive.
As the Telegraph reports, Laura’s oranges gave Rachel a “perfect match”.
But Laura had not begun the “formal process” of becoming a “living donor”. The State disapproves. Her mother could not have organs.
Laura’s kidneys went to a man in Sheffield and a man in London, while her liver was given to a 15-year-old girl.
“I am angry, really angry,” said Miss Leake, who now cares for Laura’s two-year-old daughter, Macie. “All I wanted to do was carry out her wishes. She would have been so upset that she was able to help other people and not her mum.”
The State owns your body. The State owns you…

If I understand it correctly, she may have intended to donate one of her kidneys to her mother while still alive.

Bit short term that, its not the other recipients fault.
But the system stinks, after all how many young people plan for their immediate death? And how does anyone know when for any of us?

then her mum should refuse permission for the organs to go anywhere. How sick is that?
