Madeleine McCann: Anjos Calls Mitchell A Liar And Madeleine One Year On: Campaign For Change
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN: “Cop: McCanns’ spokesman ‘lies’”
Carlos Anjos, president of Portugal’s Police Federation, says of Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns’ spokesman: “He lies with as many teeth as he has in his mouth.”
The accused the former BBC man of leaking police statements Kate and Gerry made within hours of Maddie disappearing last May. These were aired on Spanish TV last week. Anjos said the aim was to give the McCanns an excuse not to attend a reconstruction.
Says Mr Mitchell: “It is categorically untrue that I leaked them. There was absolutely no benefit for us to do that.”
THE TIMES: Andrew Billen on TV:
“It was going to be called Madeleine McCann, but now ITV1’s exclusive, has a longer name: Madeleine, One Year On: Campaign for Change. The programme will follow her parents as they campaign for an American-style Amber Alert system, in which law enforcement agencies are empowered to commandeer airtime when a child goes missing. Ah, lack of television coverage. That must have been the problem.”
Indeed.

Interesting statements you have made. I’m presuming you are not aware that the FBI has helped the UK in cases when called upon and not just twisting the truth? Our Governments actually do work together and assist each other when needed and I’m not speaking of Iraq.

Ah yes. As in:
‘Police hit out at FBI over leaks’
‘Anti-terror police in Britain have made an angry request to their US counterparts asking them to stop leaking details of this month’s suspected bomb plot over fears that it could jeopardise the chances of a successful prosecution and hamper the gathering of evidence.
The British security services, MI5 and MI6, are understood to be dismayed that a number of sensitive details surrounding the alleged plot - including an FBI estimate that as many as 50 people were involved - were leaked to the media.
FBI sources confirmed to The Observer that the bureau had been ordered to stop briefing at the request of the British authorities. ‘The shutters have come down,’ a bureau source said. ‘We have been told not to discuss the case any more.’
That was back in 2006. Not exactly ideal candidates for investigating leaks from investigations, are they?

They may well do….re asking assistance from such as the FBI…but only if
the Police Force requests it….and most certainly not at the behest of suspects
and their supporters.
Just attempts by Team McCann to try to belittle the PJ.
It isn’t working though.

Yes, you’re right. They could have lied about the kids being alone. If she was not abducted by strangers, then IMO she died of an overdose of something (so that she would not cry again as the night before) or someone lost control with her

So, just to summarise what I’ve read today -
We have a Machiavellian pathological liar who is spinning (and spinning is a rather impotent word for what a Machiavellian pathological liar might do, isn’t it?) for a couple who perhaps also have some kind of personality disorder and are almost certainly lying, and between the three of them, there’s a rampant case of meglomania which manifests itself in invoking the services of, amongst others, the FBI and the Pope.
Right?

wtf - but nice ;-0
April 16th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
MAtt and Ian - IMO the PJ are too rational an organisation to react because they are tired of Clarence’s interventions. They have Carlos Anjos the trade unionist to do that for them.
Marie Nicholas 613 - let’s put 2 + 2 together.
The PJ now know was lying - words of police trade union. They will solve the case (whoever it will hurt) - words from the head of PJ in faro. So why is it taking so long? Why is the prosecutor talking about another extension of the ivnestigation that will allow it to go on until August - read September with judicial holidays in Portugal?
You could speculate in different directions. One very dark scenario is that charges would bring embarrassment to “overtly supporting British government” notably Gordon Brown. Therefore in as far as British public opinion trusts the McCanns are innocent (and that is the case right now), the British government will not be perceived as having been taken for a ride and therefore there is no real incentive to conclude the motions (interviews requested by the McCanns and other things requested by the portuguese police). Until then nothing will happen with the investigation and the prosecutor will not press charges.
It could also be that British police are now rushing into concluding their own investigation so as to charge the McCanns (and some of their friends) with some sort of illicit activity. This would possible give them the possibility to attend trial in Britain (and possible serve a sentence) before they could be extradited to Portugal. The portuguese pressing charges now (before the British authorities) would possibly put the British authorities under the burden of extraditing them to Portugal - again further embarrassment better avoided if the Portuguese hold on before bringing charges and let the British charge them with something first.
I don’t know these are only speculative scenarios, but it is hard to believe that after so many months waiting for interviews in the UK, and so many confident statements, we are yet to see any sign that anyone will respond before a judge about what really happened to Madeleine.

I don’t know if the FBI would get involved in a case like this, but in some instances, other police forces have requested assitance from the FBI, or some specific personnel of the FBI. I find it unlikely in this case, though.
Also, I have never heard of a police force suing for defamation. Maybe a policeman/woman in particular, but not as a force. I don’t think the PJ will sue CM.

All Police forces work together and co-operate sometimes. Not just the UK and USA. It is not co-operation which is under discussion but investigation of a Police Force. Quite unsubtly different!
You are not seriously suggesting that the FBI would carry out an investigation into a British Police Force are you?
The FBI are not about to investigate the Portuguese Police Force for Clarence Mitchell, Gerry McCann or anyone else British. Don’t be so daft.

im sure if it was just negligence then they could have spun a lie to say that someone was with her, only in another room, theyve lied so much anyway, no strangers to it. No i think they didnt want the body to be seen, it would have ruined them

Yes, if it was just an accident, and they loved her so much, they would have called for help as soon as possible, no other reason for a cover up, something in her body or on her body that couldnt be seen, imo of course

Good afternoon to you too.
I think the would cover up an accidental death because it could be perhaps considered manslaughter? They were negligent, failed in their duty of care, therefore responsible for an accident also, IMO.

Was through Michael who posts here…he attended the LSE that night and
asked some questions too.
He said that when McGuinness was speaking about the Doc’s she meant to
say….”continue their Medical Careers”….but it came out as…”continue their
Media Careers”….she hastily corrected herself whilst blushing very noticably.
